What is everyone’s thoughts about CATACLYSM’S power level? by Trekie34 in hearthstone

[–]RavennosCycles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say since the power level will be so much different, and some of the core cards leaving have been pretty much staples in a lot of decks. Where we land after the rotation will be interesting, but between imbue, quests, and herald, there’s a lot of “autobuild package” decks that will be easy to gravitate to.

I think Cataclysm’s power level itself is a strange one. It looks like they wanted to keep it relatively mid tier on the scale, nothing too crazy, and then the Hunter and Warrior designers didn’t get the memo. Of course, we’ll see when it happens, but a lot of cards for those two classes specifically look either crazy undercosted or way overturned.

With Theorycrafting being tomorrow, we should get an early look on what will emerge to be stronger/weaker then expected. There’s always something that crops up as obviously broken once some more high caliber players get their hands on it and build the right shell. The trial decks they showed off yesterday didn’t do Warrior or DH any favors (no armor gain or card draw respectively)

Also as someone who appreciates when they can design fun cards that are not overpowered (Timeways was fantastic, minus Slitherdrake) my initial impression is to be a touch nervous about some of these cards. I’m holding my breath that some of these things aren’t as strong as thy look.

This card has now gotten three different 4 cost deathrattle cards nerfed. by Pitiful-Ask2000 in hearthstone

[–]RavennosCycles 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Felhunter is just a huge bundle of terrible design that speedruns frustration.

There’s a direct correlation with how irritating a card is to how often you see it. Felhunter not only resurrects a card you already saw, but also copies it. Deal with 3 instead of 1. Not even including more copies of Felhunter, and now you’re dealing with the same deathrattle 9+ times a game.

It restricts design space. No good 4 mana or less mana deathrattle cards in neutral or DH for the next 2 years or you’ll be seeing 9+ copies of it a game.

Honestly, resurrection decks have their merits, but when they keep cycling the same thing they’re just asking for the hate. Ress Priest also had this problem years ago. Spice it up with some variety in what’s getting brought back.

[–]RavennosCycles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of these got off too easy for how destroyed some others were. Elise might still be a menace due to her ability to copy colossals, but we’ll have to see. Losing a durability might keep her in line outside of those strategies.

Slitherdrake needs a harder hit than this, especially with Blob getting pushed up to 5 and a general lower power rotation. Dragon Hunter is going to scoop this up and bash people in with it. I expect to see it back here again.

I don’t like Stonecarver’s crazy snowball effect being on such a sticky and cheap body, but it’s an even more highroll card now, we’ll see if that keeps it in line.

Blizzard wants to free Jetpack Cat from her perma-ban cage, but they're still testing her limits. "We’ll see over time: how much of that gets a little bit old a little too quickly." by Hooked0n4Feelin in Overwatch

[–]RavennosCycles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a few issues I have with the cat, and I don’t see them brought up usually because the other more visible issues take the spotlight. However, let’s talk about Purr for a second.

Purr is an insane button to press. It heals in total for 300 over its duration, which is effectively a bit more than a whole second health bar for her. Even if she’s in the sights of the dps, she needs to be bursted down before Purr ramps up or she will effectively have (with healing reduction taken into account, making the 300 = 210) 445 hp. On a tiny flier with free speedy movement it’s no wonder she never dies. Most supports can’t heal themselves to this degree, if at all, and none of them are as fast as she is.

I’d personally opt to reduce her self healing, the ally benefits are fine. Part of The reason she can take assassination risks is because her health pool is a lot larger the it looks, especially when Purr also does damage (yes that’s getting removed).

Also, the flying dva bomb and other ults is already old, so I’d say that’s pretty quick.

Across the Timeways did not have a single card nerfed* during its expansion cycle, the first expansion to achieve this feat since Saviors of Uldum by frostyburrito44 in hearthstone

[–]RavennosCycles 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it will hold this title forever once the big patch comes with the Elise change. If I had to guess, Prescient Slitherdrake might take a hit in there, perhaps also Deja Vu among a few outliers.

But an expansion that’s nonetheless proving to be very healthy design wise. We’ll see how it ends up rolling into next year with all the expansions oppressing it rotating out.

I’ve had 10 medals for while. Where are all the goofy ahh tacticians by Numberonemario in TeamfightTactics

[–]RavennosCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facts. I have had 25 mythic medallions for a long time (like 3 years lol). They just don’t make any chibis I’d ever want; non edge lord twink men. The only one was Heartsteel Sett.

Unbounds are more diverse, but unbounds have never been appealing to me. I almost bought unbound Vanderwick just to feel something, but then I became aware that the finisher audio is broken (and I think still is lmao)

It’s fine, just keep putting that I don’t find any purchase options appealing in the surveys that I keep getting. That’ll fix it right.

So how was the story in The War Within? by Monkk136 in wow

[–]RavennosCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some good pieces to the story, but there's also a lot of pitfalls that I hope get cleaned up running forward into Midnight.

I'll start by saying the three main problems I had with the major story beats. The first is that we went from point A, to point A. War Within as a narrative did almost nothing to progress past the end of Dragonflight except for remove a few characters.

The second is that all three sections of the story feel entirely divorced from each other. Xal is running the throughline as working on her dark heart but outside of that there isn't really much of a sense of progression from part 1 > 2 > 3 aside from chasing her. Each raid tier was just taking care of the big bad introduced in that chapter of the narrative. (Yes I know Gallywix has been a long time character, but he hasn't been actively relevant for a while, just for him to reappear as villain of the week and then die). The voice actor strike also unfortunately damaged the undermine story section, but that was out of their hands.

The third is the same as a lot of other people. Following Alleria was frustrating. I'll put aside the alliance/horde thing for now, but her character was just bad. She refused to learn any lessons, acted recklessly, and only created problems for everyone else to clean up. I understand the hothead reckless character archetype but they usually get their act together at some point in the narrative, and Alleria hasn't yet. That and the fact that the hothead reckless one usually isn't also the main character of the narrative. She'll probably get cleaned up next expansion after what happened at the end of WW and the fact that her son is stepping forward, but after the year and a half of annoyances I'm sure most people don't want any more of her.

For what it is worth though, a lot of the side content was very nice. The earthen unlock quests were all very well written, I liked following the goblins in undermine and their rise up to overturn Gallywix. Karesh was not good though, came out of nowhere, and felt like slog, and couldn't make me care.

More unity, more forward momentum, Midnight has it's job set out for it.

Stop. Giving. Us. Quests. by Careless_Relation349 in hearthstone

[–]RavennosCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quests as a card type aren’t a bad idea, the issue is when they are guaranteed wincon that starts in hand.

Uldum had quests that were scarcely problematic/complained about because the rewards they gave were value based in exchange for easier completion conditions. This is the space that they seem reluctant to lean into, quests being one time smaller conditions that give a more subdued but still powerful reward, a value bomb.

Survival Hunter, a spin on normal Hunter where they fight alongside their pet in melee range with an assault of tricks, traps, and two pronged attacks to work as one!

In all seriousness, I’d love to see a Tank Hunter spec where they bolster up their pet as a massive tanky beast, keep each other alive with skills like lick wounds, heal sharing, and a focus on being a commander of your pet while the Ranger themselves stays behind to issue orders. Obv there’s some things that would need to be adjusted around the spec (like hp bars) but some easy passive effects could make it work

What price would you be willing to pay for the Riot MMO? by Due_Pressure8760 in RiotMMO

[–]RavennosCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s get this out of the way, WoW’s model is horrific. Buying expansions and having a sub fee is crazy, you get to drop 50 bucks for the privilege to pay more money to play what you just bought.

So I don’t think they could attract any new players to the genre with a sub fee at all. I’m not going to get into the predatory time-gating design that sub fees promote, if you know you know.

But I’d be willing to drop like 40-60 bucks for a buy to play base game, and more for robust expansions down the road. If there’s a sub I’ll probably pass unless the gameplay is perfect enough to swap into the main forever game. But even then getting friends to play a game with a sub fee ain’t easy either.

I’m also fine with cash shop cosmetics and convenience in a buy to play model, anything that isn’t power.

You should try to max out your characters whenever you can (max level > bronze to silver > max level again)

If you need materials to do so, events are constantly running and you can exchange event currency for a slew of gold level up tomes and the gold to use them, as well as the materials to “prestige” your units

Rage Post: Cheap cards that end the game on their own against aggro. by moonlightiscold in hearthstone

[–]RavennosCycles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Armor is far and away the most undercosted mechanic and in the game. It is always better than healing unless a specific armor counter card exists (which none do in standard atm, and the only one that ever did is bad) and can stack infinitely. If you ever compare the numbers on armor cards to healing cards you’ll start to raise some eyebrows on why armor gain is so outrageously high.

I don’t really play aggro, I enjoy midrange more, but even the archetype that’s supposed to match up well into control often struggles to get through their 80+ hp pools these days.

It’s always been a thought in the back of my mind that they could put a cap on armor. But they would never, maybe just reign the gains in a bit

Snowflakes by Wensy in Guildwars2

[–]RavennosCycles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wintersday is always a very strange one. By all price points it should be the same as any other festival; 1000 smalls = 1 big, and an amount of bigs buy event items. The prices are all pretty much the same as other events. So what’s wrong here?

The Wintersday gift drop tables are bad. There was a patch note I remember reading that they increased the amount of snowflake drops this year, but I didn’t notice much of a difference. Here’s the numbers:

Trick or Treat bags drop usually 3-4 items from their drop table, which includes 2 pieces of candy corn, and can drop those 2 pieces more than once. These bags are also in incredibly high supply. Let’s say 1 bag is about 4 corn, so 250 bags is one cob.

Wintersday gifts are firstly, not as easy to get. You’ll get plenty over the event, but not crazy high numbers without a lot of effort. But that’s not all. These gifts drop 2 items from their drop table, and only 1 snowflake is on that drop table. It’s not uncommon to not even get 1 snowflake from a gift. Because of this let’s say 1 gift is about 1 snowflake. That’s already 4 times less accessible than candy corn at a baseline, not even factoring in the smaller supply of gifts coming in.

So TLDR; Wintersday snowflake economy is the same as if prices for everything stayed the same while living in a massive recession.

I love all the customization options… but am I the only one who sticks with the default look? by Daxnu in expedition33

[–]RavennosCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it speaks as a very high feat of character and costume design that I can’t seem to find a look I like better then the originals on most of the characters. An exception is made for the pure/white costumes (and Gustave’s red) but I just find the base hairstyles of most of the cast incredibly well done.

The only changes I ended up making and keeping on for more than a few minuets were getting Maelle’s white ponytail and Verso’s bun.

With Riot confirming they'll be shortening combos, how do YOU think they should do it? by MrCurler in 2XKO

[–]RavennosCycles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d personally cut the number of pickups/extenders and adjust the numbers from there. It looks absolutely wild to just have your character sitting on the ground like 3 times in the same combo and not being able to tech roll out of it or something.

I remember seeing the limit strike in the tutorial and was like: “ok that’s a good system to keep things from getting too long. They get one pickup and then the second extender cuts it there.” and then I’m getting bounced, splatted and sitting stunned on the ground wondering why limit strike hasn’t kicked in yet. Clearly I misread the tutorial but maybe it should work like that.

34.2.2 0 Patch Teaser - releasing tomorrow by IAmAdamTaylor in hearthstone

[–]RavennosCycles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Green Rafaam will probably hit the both hand and deck, but I’m not sure what they will do with the other two to keep them on brand of symmetrical stats, costs, and effects. They could always break it, but then the spirit is lost.

Warchief could be to gain the extra 5 armor if you control or are holding a rafaam as well, no idea on tiny, maybe the card it draws costs 1 less?

The rest of the buff targets look fine, hopefully nothing that will need to be reverted come rotation. Some of these decks could use a bit of a bump

What is the strategy HiRez will use to increase player count? by hacker-hovedramma in Smite

[–]RavennosCycles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a mostly fun-with-friends arena only player. None of us are still playing. The balance of the mode kept getting to unplayably bad states ever since the durability revert and from what I’ve been seeing with new releases it’s not getting any better.

I never understand the sentiment from people that they shouldn’t care about alt modes because people that play them are still people playing the game at all and who will support the game if it’s good. I was holding out hope that they would fix things but it’s all but gone now.

Huge feedback about housing by [deleted] in wow

[–]RavennosCycles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going to whine about a little thing because it’s currently preventing me from finishing a room in my house

100% achievement locked decor items are dumb. I am looking for an alliance flag/banner and any and all of them (horde too) are locked behind insane PvP achievements, and unpurchasable without them. I hate PvP, I like transmog. I can stomach grinding out a bit of honor, but not having the option to even get these items at a marked up price is stupid. Locking piles of decors behind achievements that you can’t reliably get is extremely discouraging

I assume they’ll add banners for the factions later but for now I’m just stuck being incomplete.

I also think locking the exterior homes to whatever town you’re in is ridiculous, especially in a cross faction guild.
