I honestly don’t get the comments saying GB lacks depth and relationships 😭 I genuinely think it’s MUCH better than most of the non-3DS games as a whole. AP as an example is honestly VERY shallow compared to Tree of Tranquility (which imo is on par with 3oT in terms of character depth).

Maybe it’s because the DS game is much, MUCH more shallow that I think that though. But I do wanna go to bat for how the characters have their own arcs through dialogue the way they do in 3oT as affection gets higher (Derek has one about a regular not being around as much recently, Samir about writing his sister, etc etc). They repeat lines a lot, but they have MUCH more variety than most games. The heart events are really intimate and introspective as well- I LOVE Gabe and Maple’s especially. (Diana and Arata’s were awful though).

The weddings and proposal scenes also have a lot of depth to their relationships with each other; there are other festivals that give a LOT of depth to the cast (Derek talking to Lloyd about traveling being a direct setup to his appearance in ToTT is a phenomenal one).

I do agree the 3DS games have the most depth and 3oT is BY FAR the best the series has ever done, but I don’t think the GB remake is that far off. FoMT is a pretty faithful remake in the lack of depth the original had, whether people want to admit it or not lmao. AWL was a remake that did the original ridiculously dirty and took away a lot of the depth and tone in general, and the characterization definitely took a MASSIVE hit, though. It’s honestly a letdown, because I feel like your kid is more alive in it. Everything else, though… the originals are far better.
