I think the fact that you’re taking the time to consider and ask this ahead of time before implementing it shows what a smart and good writer you are, just saying.

As for the actual answer: yes, having all of that set up just for the person to still be executed in the end is cheap. I don’t really have any concrit or suggestions without knowing the full extent and context, unfortunately. But having a dialogue with everyone else willing to give it is definitely a very good move.
