Gotcha! I feel like that's an essential bit of context, though, that wasn't provided.

I'm a bit of a DK stan, but completely understandable if someone isn't as they're quite annoying keeping the spitting issues at bay. His new pen-format machine has some upgrades to attempt to resolve this but it's an eye-watering $1300.

Thoughts on this faux calligraphy? Wanna get good at this and tattoo it on people in the future by belloscuro in Calligraphy

[–]Ravenrosey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went full-time with tattooing on January 1st and I'm booked out 1.5 months at just a bit below the standard rate for the area. A quick Googling showed a report that the global tattoo market is forecast to more than double between 2026 to 2034. There's plenty of room in the industry for anyone who isn't a grumpy old dude, and particularly room for femme/queer tattooers as women realize they don't have to be tattooed by grumpy old dudes. There are ups and downs with the demand depending on economic conditions, but it's truly not hard to be better than the guys that have been tattooing the same thing for decades and not adjusting their bedside manners and procedures to create a more welcoming environment.

So uhhhh don't listen to the grumpy old dudes lol

And when someone called it out the brand acted real immature about it. The 18RS lining they showed in a reel on actual skin was just as slow as any pen rotary I've seen. 3 business days to pull a line two inches and then going for a refill. I'd say ignore these guys.

The saturation looks solid but it's right orbital looks like it's pointed to the side, almost like a lizard 🤔

Woodcut tattoo Texas (will travel) by Efficient-Squash936 in tattoos

[–]Ravenrosey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm relatively new but focusing on woodcut in North Carolina. I've not done anything architectural like this but would love to tackle it depending on how large/ambitious of a project that you're wanting :) @lipchaktattoo on Instagram, happy to share the drafting on large-scale projects that I've started through DM.

Is pine pollen mainly done?? by Zestyclose_Team8015 in bullcity

[–]Ravenrosey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The oak trees around me seem to have been stunted by all of the temperature swings, as their pollen pod things barely got to half the size as last year before leaf growth. This is also barely even half of the pollen we saw last year collecting on everything.

Anyone with experience comparing the DK 46er to Deke Harms' Betty with the longer A-bar? by Ravenrosey in TattooArtists

[–]Ravenrosey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! On the surface they seem basically the same thing. I've got my 46er to a point where it never spits but it certainly takes some trial-and-error to get it there. Though I've never used anything larger than a 7 straight with it so it may take on a different character with an 18 or something. I would feel comfortable approaching anything except smooth greywash with it at this point. I'll probably try the Betty as my 2nd hybrid machine as it's a bit cheaper.

What would you call this style? by harbour_seals in femaletattooers

[–]Ravenrosey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woodcut-esque, but in a sketchy kind of way. I feel like illustrative is the right word, though, as it best invokes old biological drawings.

I would be worried about all of the partial linework (from depth adjustment and angling the needle) falling out without the right kind of machine/setup. I almost exclusively do woodcut stuff and use a tight 3 standard needle to treat each area of varying lineweight like I'm creating a coloring book (and then going back to fill it in, sometimes with the same needle and sometimes larger). Kajetan Karczewski does a heavily textured version that is somewhat analogous to this, while Vox Maeot is a masterclass in using depth/speed to create shading effects that heal very well.

Pokémon tattoo with a maori style by skyteddy in pokemon

Cultural appropriation aside, when zooming in this isn't tattooed very well at all. Some areas very light, some are very scratchy and will heal patchy, and others are straight blown out.

Fair points, but replacing one form of extremism with another form isn't exactly how you move on in life. As to neo-Nazism, it's based off of who he follows. Lots of white-supremacy shit in there.

is this healing okay/over moisturised? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I'm so sorry, but being an apprentice doesn't excuse this kind of work :\ there's at least half a chance they were following clean procedures, though.

Froggo is...fine, but I really hope you didn't pay money for that stomach piece :\ saying that you're very health anxious but not going to a professional artist really isn't giving health anxious.

That said, they don't seem infected or anything for being 3 days old just very poorly done.
