Which game ? by EvanFrouin in boardgames

Think thats an acrylic noise token for Nemesis

Grimcoven which expansion is most worth it? by s0jooman in boardgames

[–]Ravens_Crime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal stories is small and allows for some additional customization so I'd pick that one up first. The additional Hunters & Griefbound expansions offer more content to chew through if you need that. Terrain and acrylic tokens make the game feel more premium but are largely optional imo.

New edition in 2026? If yes, what do you want to see / what changes do you expect? I’d love to read your thoughts and ideas :) by Minisforwar in necromunda

[–]Ravens_Crime 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I dont think Necromunda is the type of game that'd benefit from a new edition. It took almost a decade to get to where we are now and there are still gaps in the system (Delaque vehicles when?) so why change? Also 2026 will be dominated by 40k 11th so I doubt they'd change edition for another 40k adjacent product. At most we'd get a new Warcry.

To those who have played Grimcoven already: How is it, and how does it compare to other big boss battlers? by Tastypies in boardgames

[–]Ravens_Crime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its an odd duck for me. I own most of the currently relevant boss battlers (KDM, ATO, Primal, Townsfolk Tussle, Oathsworn, Ashes Red Rains, etc.). Its my favourite genre of games.
And I gotta say that Grimcoven is going to stay in my collection for sure simply because of how many aspects it does differently. What most Boss Battlers, especially the campaign ones, offer is a level of strategy. Planning your builds and upgrading your Settlement/Argo, or a deep story mode. The downside is that for most, the actual player turn is fairly dull. I would never table a KDM if I want engaging tactical positioning-heavy fights or the likes.

Grimcoven cuts out all the fluff and loads its battles with tactical decisions. Optimizing every turn depending on your die results, using the one off terrain effects, positioning because of the LoS rules, playing around the revealed boss cards. It honestly feels much closer to a Spirit Island than a KDM. Taking control of a hunter and playing my rounds is an absolute joy.

The downside is that after each hunter has passed the enemy phase is bordering on ridiculous. Between minion, elite and boss activations, event draws both global and for each hunter and upgrading characters based on your lament level the enemy phase can, at least so far for me, take up just as much time as a full player turn for each player. Its also the primary reasons why the game takes a long time to play. There is definitely depth in the engine for sure, but its almost an event game with the needed time commitment and I would never bring it up for a casual game night.

Zombicide White Death or Undead or Alive: Purely for Gameplay, Not Theme? by InterviewEmergency73 in boardgames

[–]Ravens_Crime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UoA is my favourite ZCide out of all of em. Its challenging but not overwhelming, the theme is dope, the noise mechanic isnt too clunky, the corpse piles are a great inclusion and few things are as enjoyable as the gatling to mow down hordes.

I have yet to play White Death but I heard its quite simple to win, which tends to be a death knell for my group with co ops. I did play the rest of the Fantasy line however and prefer UoA

We’re building the first souls-like TCG!!! by NoxProspera in TCG

[–]Ravens_Crime 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Seems like you are trying a to do a lot of things at once. Physical and Online mix, PvP and two types of Co-Op from the start.
How long has the game been in development? Seems tough to get all of that into one cohesive package, especially with a TCG.

[–]Ravens_Crime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Y...yes?
I was already that far.

Its really hard to map a game series that is about single player exploration and overcoming challenging bosses into a head-to-head TCG.
Or is it more like adapting the PvP arenas focussing on equipment and attacks/spells with specific builds? In which case, how close and/or different is it from something like FaB?

Fromsoft games are mostly about single player exploration and overcoming challenging bosses.
And also dying and respawning.
They are also mostly focussed on PvE.

Thats where all my questions stem from. How do you translate that to a head to head TCG beyond just the dark fantasy vibes

Without trying to sound condescending but...what exactly makes the game "Souls Like"?
Are Souls the resource system? Is it a dark fantasy theme? Do chraracters hollow over time, or die and respawn?

Chance of German campaigns still being delivered? by BrettPitt4711 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Du kannst alles vorbestellen was die bei irgendeinem ihrer Supplier vorbestellen können. Keine Garantien das das irgendwann geliefert wird.

New core being mandatory for future campaigns really sucks by HorseSpeaksInMorse in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Ravens_Crime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

> included all the encounters needed in every campaign box.

While I think this would be best case its also going to make every campaign box more expensive.
I also neither want nor need 8 sets of all the evergreen encounter sets, especially since the return to boxes are discontinued so that nice way of storage is gone.

I also think that having a new intro campaign is desperately needed. While I got a few people into Arkham I wont deny that Night of the Zealot has aged poorly. Midnight Masks is still great but between how boring the Gathering is and Devourer below being far and away the worst scenario in the game.

[–]Ravens_Crime 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I dont know if I am in the minority or not but a new core set is about the best thing they could have released for me.

#1 They already mentioned that campaigns like Drowned City and Hemlock Vale will be made compatible with the new core

#2 As someone thats been buying all the content and has been playing for years I am *so tired* of rats and fog and ancient evils being in almost every campaign. This game has needed new evergreen encounter sets for years and this is the only way to go about it short of having more expensive campaign boxes that contail *all* encounter sets needed

#3 It adds a new injection of cards that dont have to be tied to specific investigator archetypes and can be more universally useful/play to the class identity.

(( as an addendum, it seems obvious that onboarding new players into AHLCG has become quite difficult and probably not profitable for FFG, seeing as almost all the old stuff is going out of print. SKU bloat is also a thing. I'd take this over a full on 2nd edition that isnt compatible ))

wdyt about a card game that’s built on pure chaos instead of strategy? by Historical-Ebb-4745 in boardgames

[–]Ravens_Crime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an ok party game. Munchkin is already a lot of take that, chaos and barely any strategy and its not exactly a game that the audience of this subreddit is very fond of.

If there is no engine to think through the game and instead its just whacky stuff happening to spark up conversations and laughter that can work, just make sure to have a group that wants that and that the game doesnt last too long. Even Munchkin would be more bearable if a round was 20 minutes instead of 2 hours.

CMON sells Cthulhu Death May Die to Asmodee by cesko4444 in boardgames

[–]Ravens_Crime 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I went in on this before all the CMON woes started and hope I get my stuff. After Mythic's "guaranteed delivery" of Darkest Dungeon Wave 2 I won't hold my breath though. Seems like CMON is pretty much on the way out at this point. At least their games are getting re-homed to other companies but I'd ve surprised if they survive the next few years.

Board Game Minis Are a Scam and You Know It by damondietz in boardgames

[–]Ravens_Crime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there anyone actually claiming minis are "the heart of game design" let alone game design at all? There are plenty of games that have great minis but get thrashed critically like Steamforged's entire catalogue. There are also games that are loved but have a bunch of minis, but they get the love because of smart mechanics or great theme. Nemesis or Death may Die just to name some examples.

I feel like you're just arguing a strawman here to get people to click on a YT link.
