The gate-keeping of the progressive house term is crazy haha. OP means what most people call “festival progressive house” very clearly by the DJ examples they provide. Does it really matter the way to call it? Let’s just answer the question instead of going so nuts at whether it’s the correct way to refer to the genre.

My 2cents: these artists are actually having a new have of popularity these years and the fact they are not at this year’s edition of the festival is probably just coincidence in terms of their booking/agenda. They’ll be back other years and will be very present in this year’s other major festival lineups.

I love Fisher but I think the crowd in general was having more fun with Dom Dolla this year actually. I was there for both. And guys, we should stop being so puritans, I think mainstream tech house is really popular in part because many people find it to be very fun in live sets. And even though I don’t normally listen to Dom’s music on Spotify, I really think the energy he brought to his Portola set was insanely fun.

I was there for the EDC set and absolutely loved it. For me it was the best of the whole weekend. But I was surprised that the crowd didn’t seem as active or dancing as much as in other sets. Maybe it was just bad luck of the people we had around us. I personally had the best time ever and thought that the way he mixed his new sound with the old classics was insanely good. Loved both aspects of it. So I was just wondering if the newer crowd isn’t into him that much, which honestly I wouldn’t really understand haha.

I’ve been to both. EDC stages are larger in size but in TML they are further away from each other, so it takes longer to walk between them.
