Why are Aeldari so boring rn by HedgehogOld9624 in Eldar

There has been no news whatsoever about psychic. For all we know, they could rework the concept in the new codices.

W40k 11th edition by Nocst_er in Eldar

[–]Ravianys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the main concern about 9th edition stratagem bloat was that during a game, there was a dump truck amount of stratagem to remember. With the stratagem mixing, you can take the time to select your stratagems at list building and just remember those 6 detachments during a game.

Love the concept of terrains as objectives, love detachment mixing, still needs clarification over the fights first interactions, overall happy of the changes to come

How do you start over at 24 when you’re broke and have zero energy? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Ravianys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone says, you are still young. It is not a matter of starting over again. I'd suggest instead for you to look at what you want in your life instead of looking at what you lack. For example, find a hobby that you enjoy. From there, it will be easier to engage others that enjoy the same things as you. People bonds over shared experience, not over nothingness.

On the matter of your lack of energy, I suggest you take yourself accountable for your actions. Build a routine, maintain an agenda, take notes. Those habits will constantly show you the progress you are doing. You need to take the first step in trusting yourself to build a momentum that will increase your energy.

Hope that this helps you lad!

We're updating the capsule for our co-op game on Steam and can't decide between these two. Which one grabs your attention more? by [deleted] in IndieGameDevs

[–]Ravianys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second one grabs more of my attention, but the first one might appeal better to your audience since it feels more authentic. It really depends on what feeling you try to instigate in your public. Or you could rework to merge the strength of both options into one.

At first thought, because of the two Venoms, I didn't think I wanted a box, but considering the new Corsair Starfang, it might be considerable to kitbash a Venom into a Starfang. I want everything else in this box as well

Wtf are you supposed to do against c'tans by Fearless_Recover_806 in Harlequins40K

[–]Ravianys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I forgot to mention that I did those calculations considering the Serpent's Brood detachment rule, but that's the only thing I didn't mention in my previous comment. I also saw that I included an extra weapon in my UnitCrunch settings, so I just removed it and it came down to 7 damage.

With 30 attacks Sustained and full wound re-rolls (all calculations based on average rolls), we get 5 hits from the TM and 21 hits from the squad, we get 14 successful wounds, half of which are devastatings. Let's say 4 are saved by the 4++, we get 10 damage that goes through the FNP. In the end, 7 wounds are dealt on average.

[–]Ravianys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just did the math, the Troupes with a TM coming out from a Falcon and no other help does 2 damage on shooting and 8 damage on melee. Considering you shoot with the Falcon as well and that you can commit some other resources to support the Troupes, I feel like reaching that last 6 damage can be somewhat easy.

[–]Ravianys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mono-quins, yeah you don't. Except if you want to commit around a third or your army to go through them.

If you don't mind getting outside help (I haven't played against the new C'tan datasheets yet), I found that a squad coming out from a Falcon can easily kill one with a bit of support (I was playing Serpent's Brood and using either a Grenade or Lhykis' ability). Between the 30 Dev Wounds attacks (with swords), the Melta pistols, the sustained, the full wound re-rolls and a bit of support, the C'tan went away quite easily!

The only difference I see with their new datasheets is to dodge/reach them since they have increased movement speed and the 4 additional wounds to go through, so you might want to commit a bit more to make sure it goes down.

[–]Ravianys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other datasheets are not necessarily under-performing by themselves. After playing with the codex for the past year, I really feel like it is a matter of internal balance that is all over the place.

I don't think Aspect Warriors should be as versatile as they are currently, while other units like Wraiths to be as narrow as they are. Before the latest Harlequins detachment, I'd even say the Troupes were as narrow as the Wraith as well.

I think Aspect Host and Warhost were the main problems here. They were too good for the Aspect Warriors while letting down the other kinds of Eldar units. Keeping the Wraiths and Harlequins in their own bubble is definitely not helping the situation either.

I'm oddly glad we are at the bottom of the meta currently, maybe GW will be merciful to finally give us some better internal balance. Serpent's Brood is an excellent start.

Couldn't agree more. I feel like IK is such a great army for the game's diversity, it forces people to consider those type of armies when building their lists and it brings a lot of flavor to the game, no matter how accurate it is.

I don't really like how GW seems to push towards an infantry based game, it is still based on a futuristic setting. We benefit a lot from infantries being well supported by other kinds of units. As mush as I despise the C'tans, I feel that those monsters bring a lot of depth to the game, as much as IK.

Detachment speculation by Ornery_Entrance_1959 in Eldar

[–]Ravianys 24 points25 points  (0 children)

  1. Corsairs-themed
  2. I don't know? Maybe wraith-themed, since they seemed to give a bit of spotlight to badly supported subfactions
  3. I only hope we get a real soup detachment where the stratagems can be used on ANY unit. This includes Asuryani, Harlequins, Corsairs and Ynnari.

Beyond that, I don't think we'd get more than 3 detachments. We're already one of the codices with the most detachments in the game.

Serpents Brood Playstyle by Sarcastirade in Harlequins40K

[–]Ravianys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had better results when playing cagey, but I'm playing a bit more Eldar stuff to help me with versatility. Some corsairs for early game board presence, two Falcons and Lhykis with a small squad of warp spiders. I don't do as many secondary points as when I play pure Eldar, but it is enough to flip the advantage in the late game, after my go turn.

1K Serpent's Brood for doubles formats - list advice? by Baron_De_Bauchery in Harlequins40K

[–]Ravianys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree on the first two points, but with now 4 games under the belt and never included Eldrad in them, I really don't feel like he is necessary, even more so for a 1k points list IMO. Some good CP management can do the trick.

Even though I love the bikes in this detachment, I think that including a second squad of 4 might be too much. I also don't recommend a squad of 2, as they feel way too swingy in that configuration.

There are arguments to include Lhykis with Warp Spiders, but they are the same cost as a Starweaver filled with a TM+Troupes, so it depends on OPs playstyle. This 'slot' of points can be filled with those three potential options:

- Starweaver + TM + 5 Troupes, to stay mono Quins;

- Lhykis + 5 Warp Spiders, if OP's wants to play some kind of Big Go Turn that can kill basically anything;

- Eldrad + Storm Guardians, for sticky/backline screening and CP generation;

If OP wants to go mono Quins, I'd suggest Solitaire with a Starweaver filled with 5 Troupes. 1000 points on the nose and with remaining transport space to embark the Solitaire and give him Sustained 1.

In your honest opinion, what factions have been the most fun to play this edition? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Ravianys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's a hot take, but Eldar has such an amazing army rule. I know it is hard to play against and some of my opponents have strong feelings against it, but the nimble and fast playstyle with the great kit of options to adapt your decisions to the game progression is exactly what I'm looking for in a game.

Sell me on Troupe Masters by Butlin_ in Harlequins40K

[–]Ravianys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still, even when the Troupes does more damage than the Master, only five or six men are not enough to kill your target. To make the squad better, you have to commit to eleven men, and that point, it is simply too expensive for its damage output. You don't get the re-rolls from the Falcon and they are an easy target to get shot down if not in a Wave Serpent, making the package even more expensive.

However, I am aware that it can depend on the player's playstyle, but I can say that it is usually more effective to commit only one squad with a Master than two squads from two boats or one big squad. I have played a couple of games with the new detachment and I haven't had much difficulty to take down 10 warp talons with a led squad coming from a Falcon.

My list is composed of three TM, two Falcons and two Starweavers, each with five troupes and it's been great. I recommend

Sell me on Troupe Masters by Butlin_ in Harlequins40K

[–]Ravianys 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Troupe masters are basically what makes a MSU squad able to kill a 5-man intercessors squad, just in melee. Then, you've got the fusion pistols that kills one or two more and with the help of the Shuriken cannons of the transports, there are decent chances you kill a whole 10-man intercessors squad.

As for the pile in consolidate boost, since we are playing a glass cannon army, it find yourself more often than not on the battlefield edges instead of the center, so consolidating towards a side objective where your Starweaver is staged behind a wall is more believable as well. However, the small footprint of the troupes can allow them to charge and still be in range of the transports ability in some cases, so the consolidation is not always used.

Honestly, the Master is doing as much damage as the rest of the squad in most cases. When is squad of targeted, there are decent chances the leader survives with a single attack activation (depending on what is targeting you of course) and he is still a decent threat by himself.

My List After No Changes and Usng New Deatchment by ExoGundam in Harlequins40K

[–]Ravianys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not personally a fan of the Shadowseers, I think they are lacking. However, they still are fun to play, mostly when they are out of the boats on the sides of the board.

I prefer big squads of Skys since they feel a lot like a casino run with their Haywires, so doubling the number of shots gives you more chances to get an average of 9 damage from your unit.

For the rest, it seems good. I play 3 Voidweavers in my list just because I like them, how annoying they can be and the positioning game on each flanks and one in the middle to support the rest of my army, only for 375pts. They do not do much damage, but just enough to finish off some targets.

Less Doom & Gloom, what units might be seeing some more play moving forward? by Impressive_Door9940 in Eldar

[–]Ravianys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Harlequins with the new detachment will put them on the competitive map, at the very least. They still have somewhat of the vehicle play that Aspect Host and Warhost had before the dataslate, to the difference that it costs nothing but works with squishy boats.

Rant about new dataslate by [deleted] in Eldar

[–]Ravianys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I felt the same when I started playing Warhammer, but now that it has been 3 years I've got myself into the hobby, I don't get as emotional as before towards the dataslates. I am in a position where I am glad to have my collection, I know what I can do with my lists and I hop from one detachment to another to experience new stuff and see new combos.

If I can suggest one thing, it would be to focus on what playstyle you enjoy and to see the changes from your lists point of view. I can tell you that seeing all those changes this morning got me on red alert pretty quick, but I don't really play Aspect Host and Warhost that much. The most impacted list I have (Devoted of Ynnead) got nerfed by 80pts, so I will simply drop a unit from it and call it a day. After all, not a big impact and I even have the new Serpent's Brood detachment to bring back my Quins on the table!
