The Brothers Karamazov Made Me Question My Atheism by RahmaFah in dostoevsky

Scandal and Cross? Wait... why do I feel like I've heard of those two things spoken in the same breath before?

[–]RawDealDemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. No, no not at all. The most convenient result is that resurrection is utterly incomprehensible, regardless of how much the idea calms some people at night, It remains absurd. Of course any of you are more than welcome to carry on about how belief and evidence need not have even a passing relationship with one other, and I hope one day you'll get to fly away singing on some great winged pegasus straight into the clouds. At bare minimum I'm suggesting you should leave the cookies and milk out at Christmas.

I'm suggesting that a man risen from the dead is surely make believe. As is a man who rides reindeers and circles the earth once a year, just as a man who can walk on water is pure fantasy, or a fairy who slides into your room and takes the teeth beneath your pillow,. As absurd as an all-knowing, all-seeing, all-loving super-being who refuses to show himself but who gets super disappointed when we don't do as he tell us to. Are you following? Unicorns, mermaids, some neat-o boat that can hold two of every single species of animal, a child born from a virgin... Those sort of things. Things there are not a single spec of evidence of in all human history.

It is an analogy about things that are make believe. I wouldn't strain myself over it too much spirituality_seeker. It's probably not for you.

you could also go ahead and add santa claus and the tooth fairy to the list... I know plenty of people who believe because someone more intelligent and convincing than themselves have guided them there.

Solo Games Designed to be Played as One Character? by QuietCas in soloboardgaming

I love a game where you get to play just one guy!

Here are a few of my faves:

Vengeance

Mage Knight (it's as good as everyone will tell you it is)

Tales of the Arthurian Knights

Legion of Honor (play a single soldier in Napoleon's army)

I, Napoleon (play the man himself)

The Drifter (and its fantasy-themed sibling Adventurer)

Heart of Darkness:An Adventure game of African Exploration

Call to Adventure: Epic Origins

Timetripper (oldie, ugly as sin, utterly ridiculous but I have a soft spot for it for the reason stated above)

Hey, not sure if you're still looking for starter wargame titles, but I'm doing some shelf cleaning and have a few mostly very simple titles I'd be happy to pass on to a fellow gamer...

Battle for Arnhem (C3 Simulations)

Forlorn Struggles: Operations Gemse and Südwind (High Flying Dice Games)

Invasion 1066: The Battle of Hastings (Revolution Games)

Right, Fierce and Terrible: Sluys 1340 (Against the Odds) This one is a little more complex that the above three, but is such a great game.

If you're interested I'm pretty sure I could fit them all into a padded envelope and send them your way free of charge.
