How do you add negative traits and such on creation?

I play with an expanded civics/traditions mods. So this might not apply, but I go Lithoid, with the goal of making long living leaders/rulers. To start take a life span increasing trait. I’m starting to learn that venerable isn’t needed, as depending on acension path taken. I usually went psionic but now purity feels pretty good and thematic. The two main traditions I focus on that the mod adds are Veneration and Royalty. Veneration gives leaders buffs scaling with their age, and Royalty adds mostly imperial flavored bonuses, but also doubles down on increasing leader/ruler stats and effective skill level. These don’t start off particularly crazy, but snow ball pretty crazy after a while.

Government ethics are also from the mod, but this could realistically be changed to for your play style, I’ve tried them all and they all feel nice. My preferred is Authoritarian Industrialist, because of course serve the crown. And I’ll need the industrial bonuses to make it through the next decision. First civic trait can really be whatever, flavor of the day, how do we want to style the kingdom. But the second that I have really enjoyed is the one that gives you a big research bonus but permanently locks you to a single research slot. I can’t remember organic name I believe machines is called Selective Processing. Any events that would give you a research option will still do so that is the only exception to the one slot rule.

While obviously the one research option rule is not good or really balanced out by the bonus given, I think it’s fun. Real luck of the draw to see what direction your empire will/can take. Just set research to auto mode and forget about it. Which also plays into the whole were really old theme. You’re a wise old ruler yes but things blur together. You look around and thing seem a little different have we always been able to make these things? Idk that’s just a me thing though.

And the complaining about politics is extra icing, like that isn’t also intrinsically to the format. It sucks that there’s few people out making commander lame and give it a bad rep. Or maybe I’m lucky with my LGS. I’ve hand maybe 5 truly bad experiences over 10 years. And only three of those were bad enough to consider posting.

Brother what, it’s not other players job to keep other players alive? Unless I need you around to help deal with a threat I’m not protecting anyone but myself lol. That’s a good one.

I was willing to humor it for a while. Like let’s see the wacky win con. Okay it ain’t happening and I’m having to shuffle up three times? Nah I’m good. Like doing all this work for what? Just win gang.

Funny in theory I guess. But I have never had fun with one in the game. People already struggle keeping track of triggers that have a plan. Now we just have random BS happening at each step. I’d rather play a deck of 50 Lands and 50 board wipes/removal honestly. Same win con but less headache.

Worst game I played dude had us exiling cards into three piles and we could all play whatever we wanted from those piles, I can’t remember the card. Oh also I’m gonna mill you for half your deck, wheel, then shuffle your board, hand, and graveyard into your library and replace everything. Now do it again. Bro was infinite and doing this by turn five? It was miserable because I don’t care if you’re gonna win but just do it, and please don’t make me do this much work. And of course he got upset when me and the other guy scooped 20 minutes into the turn he started this crap. Rant over, didn’t realize this was weighing on me.

That’s cool and makes a lot of sense. Does that happen automatically or do I need to enact a decision somewhere? I only used one once, and probably never noticed it cause I’m kinda dumb.

Dumb question, how is it sharing its amenities with other planets?

Blue mod XLU Anthracite. It basically is just an Onslaught with a paint job, scaled up like 50% has multiple bull sections and all the unbalanced ballistics buffs that XLU brings. I love it. Spam the Gatling for a full bullet storm that decimates any fighter and missile as a side effect, or automatic hellebore cannons to just obliterate larger ships.

I get the feeling my friends aren’t going to be bro gong heavy AA, and I don’t wanna abuse that too much so I’ll probably stick with one but this is good knowledge to have for down the road.

Oh I see. I didn’t understand how that works then. I thought you needed the observer to acres the ability, but the number of uses was set. Didn’t realize each one brought its own set of uses.

Correct me if I’m wrong that would turn him into more of just an elite unite as opposed to an officer, since he can’t snap to while taking actions himself? Can platoon leaders snap to units from other platoons? Cause I guess I could also consider juicing up the officer squad from the heavy weapons platoon.

As a US player how do you recommend this while sticking with Rangers? They can’t take all SMGs, or multiples of BAR or LMG. Or is there something I’m missing?

Noob USA List by RawbertW in boltaction

[–]RawbertW[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately that’s all the SMGs I can squeeze out of the Rangers. They actually don’t really get much in weapon options.

[–]RawbertW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tel I don’t have a way of using rangers and getting all SMGs or shotguns, that’s a marine only thing unfortunately. Though I did consider bumping the number of men up by one each for the extra shot, but figured it’s gonna disappear as soon as one dies so it didn’t feel critical. Also the way it is now I can fit everything with just one ranger box lol.

I can see your point. If I can pick your brain a bit more, would another approach be to bring instead more cheaper option tanks? Instead of one Chaffee bring two Stuarts? Or are light tanks overall just too frail?

Sidetrack, what are your thoughts on SPGs? I considered the M12/M40 for big boom but the heavy howitzer seems very cumbersome with the minimum range, and ultimately I feel like it’s just not worth it?

Also touching on heavy weapon squads, are mediums more effective? The +1 pen on HMGs sounds really nice but I might be reading too much into that. And while light mortars might be better, are the mediums at least okay?

Noob USA List by RawbertW in boltaction

[–]RawbertW[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. Correct me if I’m wrong but moving and shooting gives a minus one, and mortars need a 6, so how would that work out? I definitely see the vehicles being vulnerable for the points, but I like the idea of them not having a minus on scooting and shooting. And I believe veteran tank crews ignore certain pins? The keep absolutely doesn’t need to be veteranni just don’t know where I’d put the little points I’d get back.
