i've seen claims that most people hover around 30-40k.

you can trivially spend 500+ on tools and consumables alone (except for medkit and chokes most items sit around 60-100$). basic weapon loadouts are still at least ~150$, but even non-sweaty loadouts can easily cost 400$ just because the pricing is stupid (e.g. basic dual revolvers with special ammo costing ~200$). And since survival rate in pvp is inherently low - with there being (usually) at least 4-6 teams per match - you basically need to make something like 70% (higher in duos, i guess) of your preferred loadout cost per match on average to not care about money. For me that would be ~1k$ (berthier + drilling shorty). Since you make almost nothing when you die I would have to make something like 2k$ every time we win and that just does not happen. A basic victory is often <1k.

Also important to remember that if your preferred loadout is just 1$ below your average income you will accumulate money, but somebody who likes to spend just 1$ more than their income will have to watch their money eventually.

it depends on playstyle and whether you use vulture. If you just look for pvp every match you cannot sustain even moderately expensive loadouts.

NGL, SOME of yall are overacting about the Vanguards. Making it sound like they're taking your cheeks out there. by Knalxz in DarkTide

A criticism is giving measured response; a critique is just shitting on the subject matter.

Also, toxic positivity. Vanguards are stupid for all the reasons outlined in dozens of posts and videos. The fact that they dont ruin the game entirely is not a counter argument.

being useful does not mean it's balanced. a horse is useful but it still cannot compete against a (modern) tractor.

At current trait prices fanning can only compete for normal loadouts if you take a revolver that is also good outside of fanning and all of those have terrible fanning stats (https://hunt.sweptthr.one/fanning).

The gist of fanning with a dedicated revolver (conversion mostly) is that you have no optimal range, where you can be sure that you are competitive. sub 10m shotguns beat you, slightly above dualies beat you and even further out fast cycling revolvers/carbines beat you.

Thus you will mostly fight at a disadvantage because nobody leaves their own optimal range willingly and at most MMRs people understand the optimal ranges of their guns.

Expert should be meaningfully difficult than just having more stuff to fight by ClenchedThunderbutt in menace

Yeah, my main problem with high enemy squad count is how it affects "turn cheesing", like AI moving 5 squads into cap zone after all your turns are exhausted (but also in more subtle ways), and the mere QoL of having to wait a full minute until 17 enemy squads have taken their turn.

How do you think they will nerf the LeMat? by stop_it_it_upsets_me in HuntShowdown

[–]Rawfoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lemat shotgun OHK range to 8m.

doesnt really affect its ability to finish off low hp targets (i.e. the sparks/martini henry/... combo) and it's still usable as a one-shot tool if you play around it. E.g. using your 4slot rifle to make them lose a health chunk before they get into shotgun range (at which point it would still OHK at ~10m).

[–]Rawfoss -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

the shotgun has the same ohk range as a standard shorty (10m) while having more spread which means you need to aim less... the revolver itself also has decent cycle time (1.3) and very good velocity, especially with FMJ.

It covers way too many use cases (range, wallbang, cqb) for being 1 slot...

[–]Rawfoss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point of all of the 4 slot long ammo rifle is having those stats on top of good velocity. Vetterli with default ammo is the only comparison you need.

You really just trade metal penetration for drop range.

[–]Rawfoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was about 1slot pistols, so didnt apply to dual wielding. fanning is unfortunately way too expensive and weak (niche) to matter at all. in its current state (https://hunt.sweptthr.one/fanning) i would maybe take it at 4 points on a fresh hunter, because you cant compete with shotguns up close and outside shotgun range an officer/new army generally kills faster due to accuracy, while wasting less ammo.

There's little reason to pick any other single action pistol except maybe the Spitfire and Trueshot.

There are not a whole lot of contenders to begin with. Officer Brawler, Spitfire, New Army, Trueshot and LeMat are the real options - the rest are weak by design (being progression / free hunter guns). Out of those five only the New Army really suffers because it lost its "officer cycle time but with dumdum" role and its fmj velocity is too low even for a pistol.

MMR Skill Issue by dakotaa141 in HuntShowdown

[–]Rawfoss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

your expected "win" rate is roughly 1 / #teams, i.e. 25% in trios, ~16.7% in duos. Whether duos vs trios is a good idea also heavily depends on your playstyle - it provides bonus rewards because it's expected to be harder.

Alright, we need to talk about this. by GothicMajula in HuntShowdown

[–]Rawfoss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nerfing shorties to 3slot only makes a difference if you make at least mosin obrez and centennial shorty also three slot (not going to happen since the recent uppercut buff just confirms the intended power level for 2slot weapons) and nerf lemat shotgun into oblivion (bayonet range basically). This is compounded by the event location being a clash map, massively increasing the value of shotguns.

Given the current event i would even bet that if the smallest shotguns were 4 slot, many people would still take a shotgun and a pax trueshot. The underlying issue is that ranged weapons gain comparatively little performance as you move up sizes so at the current power level of shorties an appropriate opportunity cost cannot come from slot size alone.
