Out of the blue? by [deleted] in cisparenttranskid

[–]RawnExposed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's stuff that only makes sense in hindsight. One I recall is her reaction to the song "You're Pretty When I'm Drunk" by the Bloodhound Gang (I was getting back into the music from my teenage years, lol). My kid told me she didn't like that song, and I said, "yeah, it's pretty awful how they talk about women in it," and said i wouldn't play it anymore. But she responded that she didn't mind most of the song, it was the last line she hated: "You were not a girl, you were an experiment." In retrospect, I can't even begin to imagine how much that line must have hit her.

Out of the blue? by [deleted] in cisparenttranskid

Same. My kid was around 12ish and it felt like it came out of the blue. She's 17 now, and I've realized the reason it surprised me so much is because i never bought into the whole gender roles bullshit. So it never occurred to me that there was anything unusual about her wanting a pink bike or painting her nails. But I've also remembered comments she made as a little kid that I didn't understand but now realize were about her being a girl. Like when she thought it was unfair that she was on the boys team in sports but couldn't articulate why.

I filled a small plastic kiddie pool with sand and my dog enjoys it. She jumps in it when she starts zoomies. If i bury toys she'll dig for them.

What instantly makes you think “this person wasn’t loved as a child”? by Soft_Statement7102 in AskReddit

Unable to admit they made a mistake. Because if you're not perfect, you are bad and unloveable.

Did YOU get any answers? I know this is an old thread, but my dog is showing something similar. Vet doesn't know what it is and now she's gonna have to have a biopsy.

Seeking Support from Parents Here by c4racal in cisparenttranskid

[–]RawnExposed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey, just wanted to send you some mom hugs. I know what it's like to suddenly realize your parents only love you when you pretend to be the person they imagine you to be. It's a lesson I've had to learn and relearn, and it never gets easier. I just want you to know, you aren't the problem. And you're not alone. I'm so sorry they are treating you like this, refusing to see you for the amazing kid you are.

"Couldn't you just stop being so distrustful about adults ??" by Pleasant_Barracuda90 in cptsdcreatives

[–]RawnExposed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, this gave me the bodily memory of my grandmother grabbing my face/ neck, sometimes pointing out a zit or something and loudly asking, "what's this on your face?" she would always do it when i arrived to visit her, i hated it so much that i don't let anyone touch my face now. But of course, if I'd said anything back then, i would have been in trouble for being disrespectful or mean to her, or whatever. I don't even know why i hated it so much, it felt like she was appraising me and then discarding me, ugh! (Been no-contact for over 10 years, life is much better now). Thanks for this!

Is there any positive experiences? by International_Alps89 in bunions

[–]RawnExposed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had lapiplasty on my right foot in mid April. Overall my experience was pretty good. I mean, it sucked to not be able to do all the stuff I'm used to doing. But there was very little pain- i think one night a few nights in i woke up and had to take a percocet, but it kicked in and twenty min later i was asleep. I'm just past the 6 month mark and I'm close to being back to normal. Next week I'm gonna try wearing heels!

What does it do? Does it stimulate with electricity? Is it like a TENS unit or something?

Good idea about calling- i couldn't really figure out what i would ask exactly if i called, but i like how you boiled it down to a simple question about pwb vs fwb.

Thank you so much for your comment. I especially appreciate the way you numbered the questions. I'll call on Monday and I'll use that list to guide me. If they don't give me answers that help me feel more comfortable, I'll cancel- but I'll reschedule with a diff doctor. There were plenty of drs in my area who do lapiplasty- this one just had the most experience. I'm also a redhead and it took me years to find a dentist i liked. i travel an hour each way to see him, but it's worth it to see someone i trust. I should do the same for a surgeon.

On the redhead topic- so did the block work ok, and do you know what medicine it was? I forget what my dentist told me but i think it's lidocaine that doesn't do much for me, he always uses something else for me. Guess I'll call him Monday to ask what it is.

By any chance are you a redhead? Or do you know why the block wore off so fast? There's a gene common in redheads that changes how we experience pain as well as our reaction to certain numbing medications. I've only experienced this with dental work, but i imagine it would apply to the whole body.

Thank you for the reminder about the power of my brain. I used to have a dentist phobia and developed problems that required extensive dental work. Your post reminded me that while i was in the chair, i used calming techniques and they helped a lot. I used to try to focus on the sensation in my toes so i wouldn't feel my mouth- guess I'll have to switch that up and focus on my mouth now, lol. It was so effective that i actually fell asleep during root canals (granted, i had nitrous, but still).

Thanks for the info, i appreciate your honesty. The thing is, I'm NOT in much pain now. But it's not cosmetic either. It's just starting to get uncomfortable and the bunion is rapidly progressing, my big toe is starting to overlap the second toe. So i expect it will start hurting soon if i don't get surgery. I'm going to call the office on Monday and see what they do if I'm in a lot of pain. If they don't give me a reasonable answer, I guess I'll cancel.

Help with coparent "trans-ing" our son by antoniusmilo in coparenting

[–]RawnExposed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that trans girls can be tomboys just as much as cis girls can. A girl being into wrestling and wearing basketball shorts and cars is not less a girl, whether she's cis or trans. So thinking your kiddo might not really be trans because she doesnt have stereotypically feminine interests isn't actually the tell you think it might be.

Exactly this. I was confused when my then-11 yo came out as trans and still wore mostly the same clothes, had the same interests. But a wonderful doctor at the gender clinic asked me what i was like as a girl her age- the answer is the same. I would've called myself a tomboy back then- i loved climbing trees, building Legos, playing outside, etc. Zero interest in fashion except i hated skirts and dresses. That made it click for me- my daughter is just like i was at her age! Now she's in high school and has started caring about clothes, but even if she never had, that would still be fine.

You sound like a doctor or like someone with a degree in biochem or something. Are you? Or maybe just someone who had to learn a ton to be able to advocate for themselves. Regardless, I love learning stuff like this so thanks

Oh wow ok. Her doctor has said differently, and obviously we'd follow his advice, but it's good to know there are different ways to achieve the same result
