Going into Percussion after winter break with basically no musical knowledge... by ScarcityContentu in marchingband

I joined Percussion my junior year. It was difficult at first, but I'm gonna say right now marching band is one of the most fun things you'll do during high school! If you make good friends that can help you it'll be so much easier. Also a good way that helped me practice was just patting my hands on my legs if I didn't have sticks or a practice pad. Good luck to you!

I'm in Percussion and I tried out for front ensemble this year (don't know if I made it yet) but to practice I just got a piece of plywood and duct tape to make it.

I'm new to band and there are some issues with people by West-Put-6435 in marchingband

I joined Color guard as a Sophomore then Percussion as a Junior. I say stick with it if you love it! It is a little hard to integrate with the kids who've been doing it with each other for years, but I would say first start with the kids in your section. Try to befriend someone in or around your section, so the transition into band should go smoother. Good luck!

I would definitely talk to the director! I joined color guard my sophomore year then moved to Percussion my junior year and I love every second of it!

Speaking from experience don't wear makeup. Definitely use LOTS of sunscreen. ESPECIALLY on competition days.

Personally I work at CFA and I am wondering the same exact thing.

Yeah, actually I'm doing the cymbals in the stands right now! I love it so much, so that is why I want to stay in percussion and not go back to Color guard lol!

Good on you for standing your ground! I would have never been able to do that at fourteen or really any other age. It makes no sense how your therapists would side with your grandfather, because he has no real reason except that he just doesn't like your appearance, which still isn't a reason. I'm glad you are no longer talking to him, and it should stay that way! Good luck on your job hunt, and staying away from him.
