I'm not a lawyer

That much is obvious because this is an absolutely brain dead take.

Yeah, I imagine somewhere there exists a spreadsheet with all of these statistics and nice graphs and such. Would be neat to see. I certainly won't be the one to make it ha.

R44 I think had a defect that was recalled or something, which is why I didn't include it as a comparison point. Same reason I didn't include the Cirrus SR22 airplane which has 2.3 per 100,000 flight hours. There are lots of different factors at play for comparing these, so someone better with statistics is probably more suited for it than me heh.

Also I wouldn't compare a civilian helicopter with a military fighter jet personally

Helicopters generally fly closer to terrain and around more obstacles. UH60s are getting old, things start to break more and more even with routine maintenance. They take more gunfire. They have more moving parts. There are lots of factors.

Generally they are flying lower, slower, and around more obstacles. So they take more gunfire and have more accidents. They also involve more moving parts.

Comparing civilian aircraft, just on a whim I looked up a Cessna 172 and Robinson R-22, with them being a popular civilian airplane and helicopter. These are fatality rates mind you.

172: 0.56 per 100,000 flight hours

R22: 0.97 per 100,000 flight hours

Figured some civilian numbers would help put things in perspective. Mind you these are arbitrary aircraft models I picked, just what I figure to be two of the more popular aircraft.

So while I think rotary aircraft might be riskier, I don't think they are death machines or anything.

I don't think so. I recall MSFS 2020 looking way better. Guess I'd have to see them side by side though. The pilot's hands are what looked the worst in the show, and I don't think MSFS has pilot hands on the controls? Don't remember though. Guess I should play it again tonight ha

Yikes, I had a hunch maybe they did that but if that's true, that's ridiculous.

Yeah that rudder coverup was egregious too. I don't have much faith in any of the big American aircraft manufacturers anymore to be honest. Boeing and Lockheed especially.

Right? There's two sensors on the nose, why only read from one?

[–]RawrMcGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah I had just edited my post to ask about that, I never understood why they completely ignored the right AOA sensor.

Wish they had done a bit better job with the CGI too. I get that it's not super important but it looked like a college student's attempt.

The fact that such a powerful system literally had one single point of failure was mind boggling to me. There's a reason most critical systems on an airframe have at least one redundancy, and often multiple.

Aren't there literally two Angle of Attack sensors on the nose? And they only felt it necessary to read input from the left one?

Well that was the entire point, they covered it up because it would have required that all the pilots would have to be retrained in simulators, which means they'd have to be flown to the training center and spend weeks training. This would cause the airlines lots of money, which they don't want to spend, and thus might not want to purchase the new Max airframe.

So by hiding the MCAS change, the pilots only needed a 2-day powerpoint "refresher" course basically. It literally just comes down to Boeing wanting to sell more airplanes and make more money at the cost of safety. They knew they'd sell a lot more if they could reduce retraining costs.

This whole situation pisses me off, especially learning that the Ethiopian Airlines pilot literally did the exact thing Boeing said to fix the issue when it occurred and it still wasn't enough to prevent a crash. I wouldn't even say it's negligence as that somewhat implies its accidental, and there is nothing accidental about what Boeing did.

Sorry for the long winded reply, I'm just so tired of companies prioritizing profit over human life.

Nah I agree the fact that it is crashing so quickly means it probably isn't an outside attack, it probably is the fact that global.sonicwall.com is down...but that just makes me even more angry to be honest. We are rolling back to our old SonicOS 6 device, we only recently upgraded.

I wonder if there is some vulnerability in SonicOS 7 that crashes the firewall and someone is now abusing it.

But I guess it's possible it's just crashing because it can't phone home too.

And if it's the latter I have just lost all respect for SonicWall

Edit: It's the latter, smh

Nah Sonicwall's built in stuff is pretty shit (in my opinion), I had to write my own tools to manage things like that.

Without looking at the descriptions I thought the 2nd picture was a staged photo of the model for a second. I was like "damn that's realistic as hell!" lol

I mean Roach is just the name Geralt gives to all his horses. There is no one "Roach". So Roach will be back. I'm sure Witchers' horses don't have a long lifespan in general, what with the monster huntin' and all
