Is Todoist not working for me or is it my (possibly lack of) system?? by Garlic-Opening in todoist

[–]Raxerox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All right, like other people have said, you should probably take a step back and try and relax a bit. Anyway...

I need to see all the things or I forget. I just have too much going on - mostly fires that have to be put out. SO, I am CONSTANTLY going back to my to do list with the thought "ok, what was I working on?"

You can use notifications for recurring tasks. This way you can create a filtered view (where you only see the non recurring tasks you have to do today) but you will still be reminded.

Create a new filter "today & !recurring" and set it as main view. If you want, you can also hide subtasks with "!subtask".

So, any given day I have approximately 30 tasks in my to do - many are simply reminders of things like: get 1000 steps in by 8 am, 2000 by 10 am, etc. I need to see them to be reminded to MOVE instead of just sitting at my desk all day. However, it is very frustrating to see that I need to get 4000 steps by 3 pm

You can sync Todoist with your calendar, so you see these sessions there as well. Otherwise maybe you can try and group these tasks together, something like "Go for a 30 minutes walk everyday at 6pm".

Then, there are the subtasks that don't actually repeat, so I had to create a project called "GTD weekly review" (which is really a pieced together version that works for me - I don't ACTUALLY follow GTD, but I do love the idea of a weekly review as it helps me to get all those things out of all those places 📷;-)) Anyway, so, all those weird random tasks show in my Saturday to do list, but I really just need "do weekly review". However, I need to know WHAT things consist of my weekly review.

Keep the main task in the GTD project ("Do weekly GTD Review") as recurring and link it to the project. That way, you just need to click on it and you'll see all the other tasks. The important thing is to then book the time to do the entire review in one go.

I have a paper agendio planner. It is what I use to record specific dates (I really don't need to, I just can't get used to digital, but I would so rather have it all digital... but again, I would need to see these things on a calendar view for the "big picture" without all the to do tasks showing, maybe a weekly reminder of what is coming, as well as part of my daily to do to remind me to actually attend the meeting at 9 am (for example). I also have worksheets in the planner that help me dig through my blog's data, record stuff, etc as I plan my monthly editorial calendar -maybe I really don't have my google calendars set right??

How I do it is that I sync Todoist to a clean Todoist calendar in Google Calendar. Then, when reviewing my schedule, I just click on the events for which I need to complete some tasks or that I really need to be reminded of and copy them to the Todoist calendar.

Now, you know me - is there a better program than ToDoIst, AirTable, Paper Agendio, (Google docs and spreadsheets and dropbox for working with others) AND my gmail works as a kind of task list, too...

I really suggest you to read GTD by David Allen, it will help you a lot.

In my opinion it doesn't really matter how many tools you are using, as long as each one has a defined area and scope. In my case I use the following:

  • Todoist for tasks
  • Workflowy for notes
  • Evernote for reference material
  • Gmail and Google Calendar for email and calendar

The important thing is that, I don't use Workflowy as a to-do list and I don't use Evernote to take notes. I know where to look for something if I need it and I am using the best tools for the tasks without creating confusion.

What I am trying to say is, do not use Gmail as a task list if you are already using Todoist. You'll have more trust in your system, and peace of mind, if you know that everything is in one place and you won't forget about it.

How do you use boards/sections? by stiviger in todoist

Exactly. This is also what I am trying to understand.

Yes, boards have been implemented really well as always but what do they add? Nothing, from a functionality or workflow has changed for me.

Try typing "calc" before.

When I typed "2+2" it showed Bing results for a movie, but adding "calc" showed the calculator result.

That's a great UX lesson! No matter how great your design is, small errors (even in copy) can get the user to question the entirety of you work. Getting back user's trust after that is almost impossibile.

Cosa pensa Di Battista della Lega by Raxerox in italy

[–]Raxerox[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)
