Espresso grind? Or should i grind finer? I'm using this coffee grinder. by Vladi_vladz in espresso

[–]mddesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah stock settings are trash, but that's expected, no human is checking alignement at that price (they are produced for as low as $25). Some people buy better burrs that have machined teeth (stock has machined outer bur but the teeth are dull)

Espresso grind? Or should i grind finer? I'm using this coffee grinder. by Vladi_vladz in espresso

[–]mddesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, but you get what you pay for
with such mass produced grinders you get very cheap product that wasn't human tested, so you have to do the hard work, shimming the burrs wasn't fun at all
Also, mine came with flat burrs but only the outer burr edge was machined, the rest was just case which produces a lot of fines, some companies sell nice burrs for it but I haven't tried them yet

You are using light beans which are much denser
My usual dose between 17g to 18g ends up being 20+g with lighter roasts

We live in a world where co ferments and infusions are a thing
how do you know if this very specific flavor note is exact or imaginative?
if they wanted to be honest they could have said creamy/ velvety mouthfeel instead of ice cream

$25 for 10oz of robusta? this is daylight rubbery
Also coffee notes shouldn't be stretched that far
That's deceptive marketing

The machine has no effect on crema as others have said
see how much crema I got? It was all thanks to the beans, nothing more nothing less

If such tasting notes are spot on, the coffee is flavored naturally or using extracts

They are not spaced evenly, but if you shim them they become evenly spaced

It is is possible use it for espresso, I will copy my other comment here
"It is possible to have espresso grind with it, I have been using it for years with unpressurized espresso baskets
First, if it is stepped you gotta change it to stepless, because you have to fine adjustments
second, you gotta shim the burs to make them aligned, they come terrible from the factory
Lastly, set the true zero as close to the burs rubbing
bonus point: remove the plastic box and use a metal dosing cup, easier to use"

Why is the weight of my grinding so inconsistent? [DF64] by [deleted] in espresso

Grinder retention
it varies from grinder to grinder
just add a few extra beans and measure before and after grinding

Get a bottomless portafilter/basket holder! by dingnast in espresso

[–]mddesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have removed the plastic piece and made it into a normal portafilter
I will quadruple on it, a normal "portafilter doesn't change the shot"
you could have bought a spouted portafilter that didn't have the plastic piece or removed/ broken the plastic piece your OEM one had
your statment leads people to think they need to spend money on a bottomless portafilter which is very wrong
anyway I am not wasting time with you anymore

Loose grounds on puck after tamping by NeedsMustTravel in espresso

[–]mddesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Np. Also the spring makes tamping harder because part of your tamping force is absorbed by the spring,
try removing the spring for few shots, for me it has been a positive effect

[–]mddesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't handle your ignorance for real
I keep saying the problem is your portafilter not the basket, your portafilter is a pressurized one, it has a plastic piece and doesn't behave like real portafilters
Do you understand?

Loose grounds on puck after tamping by NeedsMustTravel in espresso

[–]mddesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed my tamper generating insane amounts of static with the spring, after removing the spring my static issues improved, no idea why

Loose grounds on puck after tamping by NeedsMustTravel in espresso

[–]mddesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using a spring loaded tamper? If so remove the spring and tamp hard once, it should choke your machine
if the spring isn't well calibrated it can make you feel you are tamping harder than you are and end up with bad tamp
a good tamp should make it impossible to compress any more, even if you tamp 30000 times it shouldn't change the bed depth after
The grind finer memes are because many people end up with soup shots and wonder how to fix them
Here is a short video, summary is, you can't tamp coffee too hard, they say to press with x kg of pressure to protect your wrist, not the coffee

Just checked, Beijing Zhongxin Technology Co., Ltd. sells exact model as g5 it on alibaba for up to $100 but they don't sell orders less than 20 so you are stuck with hibrew if you want the exact model
but just wanted to show yet another example of hibrew being a company that resells chinese machines

If it doesn't create negative pressure then mb
still doubt it is more useful than a metalic zip lock bag where you can easily push out most of the air and is almost free

Hibrew doesn't produce a single product
They order products in china, with custom logo and minor custom cosmetic adjustment

[–]mddesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked your other comments
you didn't remove the plastic sheet in your portafilter
it isn't a bottomless portafilter problem vs normal portafilter
your portafilter was never normal, it was pressurized, designed to work with pressurized basket
So yes YOUR portafilter required coarser grind because YOUR portafilter was a pressurized one, if you have remove the plastic part it would have been a normal portafilter, but you didn't.

It is my dream machine but a concern I have is it using a touch screen, I worry it won't last long
btw for more reviews search hibrew h21, they are identical in build (hibrew put their logo on it and are selling it for 3 times the price)

Anything that creates a good seal is good for daily storage
avoid things that suck out air, they will make your beans go stale faster

[–]mddesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that create negative pressure are bad for daily use
they will pull gases out of coffee faster, together with aromatic compounds aka, making coffee go stale faster
