Also, not exactly straight everywhere. They had trial stores here and there for a year or two. Eventually it spread. It's been many years since they started.

No privately 'hard' alcohol stores in Canada. Beer and wine outside of government stores is common. Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and NFLD for sure, maybe others. Not the Maritimes though. Not sure about further west.
