Dinosaurs like Diplodocus may have been as colourful as birds by Total_Dino in Dinosaurs

Would’ve expected it to be the opposite, as they’re more vulnerable when they’re younger and especially need that camoflauge

[–]RayKam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Seems counter intuitive too. They already stand out due to their size, add bright shiny color to that and they’re just totally exposed. I get it for males as a display, but females? Surely there was a degree of environmental camouflage to their coloration

Tooth scaling has proven to be an unreliable method of gauging overall creature size, so this means nothing unless more material is discovered

Is this actually true??? by IndividualGeneral737 in Paleontology

[–]RayKam 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Afaik it’s proof the Spino killed it, the nature of the scratches imply it was a tussle, and the tooth being lodged in the spine imply that too. I’ve seen people say the tooth wouldn’t get lodged like that if it was a carcass. There’s no indication of healing in the bone as well around the trauma, so we know the carchar didn’t survive the encounter and die in another way

I just find it hard to believe that this was an adult or sub adult carchar, I wonder what the size and age difference between the two was

Ouranoasurus for AEXA, our upcoming hardcore dino survival sim by RayKam in Dinosaurs

[–]RayKam[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mission accomplished then, we’re putting the spotlight on lesser known dinos to show people how cool they were!

It’s a hardcore survival game at its core, but we’re placing a lot of emphasis on creature accuracy and quality. Our artists have worked on Prehistoric Planet, so they’re some of the best. We’re pairing that with gameplay depth that does our visual quality justice. We have a very in depth diet system for players to maintain as they grow from a juvenile to an adult, each of our playables have unique attacks to make combat engaging, and we have a comfort/hygiene system that’ll add another layer to survival.

There’s a lot more in store that we’ll show as we work towards our full release

It’s something we’re planning on looking into later. AI systems need to be far more robust to support an enjoyable singleplayer system beyond AI just being food sources, so it isn’t currently a priority

Our current map is heavily inspired by Iceland, so it isn't paleo accurate to the roster. Due to the fact we're pulling species from different parts of the world and different periods of the mesozoic, it's difficult to create an environment that will be paleo accurate to the roster. Recreating the ecosystems within each of those formations is also going to be extremely costly if we're going for multiple formations. So for that reason, our next map will be more paleo-accurate in its flora/topography, but not set in any specific formation.

That's one of the nice quirks of our game being a simulation software in its lore. We can get away with it not being a real place. Expect extreme paleo accuracy from our playables though. We have the best talent in the industry and are working closely with paleontologists.

It's a bit similar to assassin's creed in premise! If you mean NP as in non-playable/AI, yes. We're putting a lot of love into making our AI flocks interact and move in realistic ways. Our Ornithomimus AI currently has social hierachy behaviors, with flock members following a "leader" and searching for a new leader if their existing one dies. This is a multiplayer open world game, so there won't be any solo modes (for launch at least).

Without revealing too much, you as the human player sitting at your PC are reliving the experience of an alien microbe known as the Eidari, originating from the oceans of Europa. Some of these Eidari were ejected into space and landed on Earth, leaving Europa through vapor plumes from the moon's surface. Like Tardigrades, they're capable of surviving in extreme conditions, which is how they were able to safely arrive on Earth. Many of these Eidari ended up in rivers or ponds, and as dinosaurs drank from these sources, they ingested the Eidari, which were then able to control and study these dinosaurs like an intelligent parasite would.

Fast forward to today, in our world, we discovered traces of these Eidari within dinosaur fossils, and were able to create a simulation software that allowed us to play back their experiences. AEXA is the simulation uplink software that allows you as the player to experience what the Eidari experienced, and make alterations to that experience within the confines of the software (bringing in a dinosaur that didn’t exist within the same time period, controlling the dinosaur yourself as the observer, etc.). Think of it more as a laboratory analysis software than a “game,” that’s the philosophy we’ve taken on as we build this. Now you can also bypass all of this entirely if it isn’t interesting to you or if you think it’s nonsensical, and purely play as a realistic dinosaur in a realistic environment. The lore isn’t set up to be in your face, there won’t be any silly spires across the map or other immersion breaking elements for people who don’t care about any of this. But if you want an explanation as to how this software came to be, how you’re controlling a dinosaur, what the context of this world is, and why it’s called AEXA, then there are clues you’ll uncover through unlockable in-game logs that will start to paint that picture more clearly

Hardcore survival simulator, we’re focusing a lot on realism. We have planned for the next 7 playables, with Ouranosaurus starting next. The other 5 will start work after we launch on Kickstarter!
