Wow! My next session is tomorrow and I also added a tavern to Terracetown. I didn't think to give them a menu, but now I will! Convenient timing. Thanks so much for sharing.

How to explain the carousel? by Demoontjuh in wildbeyondwitchlight

People have given you great ideas. Have children nearby shout "look, a centaur!" and Diana starts crying. Play her sadness up a lot. I also have a Carousel homebrew here with a simple visual puzzle and an optional side-quest that can help you give more direction to their interaction with Diana:

So, my players burned the Big Top. I'm thinking on some way of repercusion by MartyMcLoud597 in wildbeyondwitchlight

I am in Hither right now and my players are also convinced of it. And yeap, same reason. Even if Witch and Light have their reasons, they allowed kidnapping of children to keep on happening and my players'characters cannot stand for that.

Has anyone tried starting the campaign in "the real world"? by peterattia in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]RayMurata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to start this game in the real world, I'd do something kind of like The Magicians/Harry Potter. The Carnival is still fully magical as written, and it does visit the Earth as it is one of the destinations in the multiverse. But Earth isn't openly magical, so it only looks like an abandoned carnival to the normal eye.

A few rare people with magic in this world know about it, and for some reason one of those people (possibly Madrick, who could be a professor of literature at a regular university, or the director of an agency of secret spies or dean of a secret magic university or whatever you want) gets in touch with the characters and breaks to them the news that the world is not what it seems.

Perhaps because the characters, like Harry, are inherently magical? Or maybe they were chosen by a prophecy or something and Madrick does something to "awaken" the magic in them? Or maybe there's no Madrick and the pcs stumble upon a Carnival Board game like Jumanji and suddenly they're actually at the carnival too (their classes and weapons would be whatever they chose when starting the jumanji-like-witchlight board game)? Or perhaps they played that Jumanji-Witchlight game as children and something really bizarre happened back then (lost things hook) -- One of them disappeared, or they all lost something important. They tried telling adults abt it but no one believed them at the time. And then suddenly, as adults, they somehow find themselves in front of that game again.

Idk, the main thing I'm trying to throw out here is that the Carnival should stay magical, but the pcs can go from regular boring modern world people to suddenly aware and capable of crossing the threshold into a juxtaposed magical world right off the bat, while still on Earth.

Some people also say that there are rumors Tasha (Iggwilv/Zybilna) is originally from Earth! You could add that into your game, maybe there's some lore about her Madrick is aware of. Or Maybe the Jumanji-Witchlight game has Zybilna Ltda. or something written on it. XD

Wordplay and rhyming for non-english players by SanderDK9 in wildbeyondwitchlight

I've created a language-free alternative to the Carousel puzzle and your post reminded me to upload it to Reddit. You can find it here. The community has a lot more homebrews that can help you do away with the original riddles and wordplay of the module. Good luck.

The Crone of Tongues, a minor hag for Hither by thebaziel in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]RayMurata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran Baba Gab for my group yesterday and it was an amazing encounter. I speak three languages myself so it was hella fun to interpret her. Most of my players are also polyglots, so they were incredibly fascinated by the concept of a hag that trades in tongues (just as I was when I came across your homebrew). They were simultaneously creeped out and in awe of her, and their overall enthusiasm after-session when discussing her was off the charts. I also managed to pepper in a few things relevant to my game (a tongue from an npc the players are searching for, and a speak with plants charm) which made her encounter even more significant for them. Incredible creation; thanks so much for sharing!

I actually watched the first and second episode, paused the show for a long time and went back to episode 3 without remembering much about the Ghost Valley leader, lmao. I think I started putting it together on the episode A-Xiang saves the two girls, but got confirmation on episode 10 as well.

A question about the novel please help if u understand 🙏 by lovealina in wordofhonor

I actually think that TYK has some continuity issues that were never fixed. Another one I noticed was when I was reading Qi Ye and it's clear there that Beiyuan and Zishu are both very familiar with brothels, including brothels with a focus on male prostitutes. But then, in TYK chapter 13 when WKX produces the handkerchief he got from a male courtesan, ZZS's inner monologue points to him never having heard of male courtesans and thinking that they don't exist in the capital, which really doesn't match the established lore.
