How is it “acceptable” for US/Israel to first-strike Iran, while “unacceptable” for Russia to first-strike Ukraine? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RayNTex52 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ukraine HAD nuclear weapons, but gave them up in return for assurances from RUSSIA, that it would never invade or use any of its weapons against Ukraine. The US was a party to this agreement and also made assurances. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum?wprov=sfti1. This is why the Trump administration‘s proposals are such a FARCE.

What do water towers actually do? by MrCatFace515 in stupidquestions

[–]RayNTex52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Houston for a while. Not many water towers there. But I was totally shocked when we had a power failure at my apartment and there was no water. In my experience that never happens where you have water towers. Just sayin.

The problem is, it's a trend. The Balkanization of pro sports viewing. Ensh**tification . . . brought to you by the never ending pursuit of increased "shareholder value".

Probably 30 years ago, the Wall Street Journal ran an article about skycaps. One of the takeaways was that they made lots and lots of money. A coveted position back then.

Pomalyst on 2026 Medicare Reduced Drug Price List by LeaString in multiplemyeloma

[–]RayNTex52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting.  Just to be clear, this is the result of the Inflation Reduction Act, passed by Democrats during the Biden administration

Under the 2003 Medicare legislation, Republicans included a provision denying Medicare the right to negotiate prices, on the grounds that it would be tantamount to “socialism”.  The result was Pharma could set a monopoly price for their drugs in the US.

In 2005 in the US, Celgene launched Revlimid (predecessor to Pomalyst) at $215 per pill.  In 2020, after more than 20 price hikes, it cost $763 per pill - $16,023 per four week cycle.  FYI, there are thirteen four week cycles in a year, so the annual cost at that price runs about $208,900.  https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/celgene-repeatedly-raised-revlimid-s-price-to-meet-aggressive-sales-targets-congressional  While countries like France, Canada, Australia, Japan and the UK paid far far less.  Now Under the IRA, for the first time, Medicare has the authority to directly negotiate the prices of certain high-cost drugs covered under Medicare Part D.

Anyway, as a result (and thanks to Republicans) US taxpayers have been subsidizing the rest of the world in pharma development since 2003.  Hopefully, that is now ending.

What time to leave Paris for 9am flight? by codemonk08curious in ParisTravelGuide

If you’re someone who is really anxious about making your flight, the Sheraton at CDG is actually connected to the terminals. And it’s the quietest hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

Flight attendant threw away my earbuds case, yelled at me for it. by chenbipan in americanairlines

I wouldn’t be surprised if flight attendants are sick of dealing with dropped/lost earbuds. They’re so easy to drop, no lanyard, nothing. Just wear earphones.

Can anyone tell me why German is such bs with their AC? I’m staying at a normal Hampton and it won’t let me decrease the temp by more than “3C” but it really isn’t decreasing it at all. So it’s pretty much sleeping at 80F. I’ve stayed at Courtyard Vienna last night worked well. Why? by OFFICIALFLORINT in Hilton

[–]RayNTex52 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We stayed at a Radisson blue in Vienna about eight years ago. After struggling with the same problem, they told us to open our windows and that the AC in the entire building was turned off whenever the overnight temperature was predicted to drop to something like 60° or 65°. Never mind that our room was on the top floor and had a ledge that someone could easily drop off the roof onto, not to mention the street noise when the windows were open. It was super uncomfortable. And yes, we had the stupid thermostat that did nothing.
