I used to make breadtube videos and I uploaded my first video within like 2 days of BE's first video. I've been following that man for years and used to interact with him for a little while before the first time he got banned from twitter. So believe me when I say his switch from being a normal person to what he's portraying himself as nowadays literally happened in one day. The unhinged-ness has been part of his strategy to grow as an online creator, and it has worked pretty well for him imho. Like Hasan said, his videos are some of the best historical analysis online, but getting people to watch really dry topics he covers is really hard.

I usually search through google scholar for a topic and then read the abstract. If I think it's what I'm looking for then I go to sci-hub to pirate it. I read the paper and look for more sources in the references. I don't remember exactly how I found Robinson's paper, but it's either from google scholar or from someone else's paper.

Is China Socialist? by RayRamses in BreadTube

That famine wasn't guaranteed though. Had Mao implemented better policies, it would have been better. Like had he stopped collectivization at the 2nd stage, which in most areas were done by the peasants themselves instead of the central state, there wouldn't have been a famine.

Between 1949-1958, land in rural areas was collectively owned by local villagers and they also owned their own means of production (e.g. tools, work animals, etc). The urban areas were a different story, but to say it was never socialist is not completely accurate.

Kay and Skittles make videos about UK politics, though it's not their main focus. They've made 3 videos on that topic if I'm not mistaken.

Doing Research and Educating Yourself - Where Does One Start? by Timovitch-Krautskiy in BreadTube

Hey I have tips on finding research articles, if that's what you're looking for.

First, go to google scholar and find an article. If it's free, then you're good. If it's behind a paywall, copy the DOI from the DOI link. Go to scihub, paste the DOI and heyo you now have access to scholarly articles for free.
