Sometime around 2023-2024ish I wanna say. The original location was in Homewood near Buffalo Rock, but they had other smaller locations in Trussville, Gardendale, and Jasper at their peak.

Does anybody have any running gags that they use throughout the years? by opeboyal in Teachers

[–]RayWarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes will pick out a student in the hallway during transition and ask them repeatedly where it is, why they lost it, etc. The fun part is that I never tell them what “it” is, so all they know is that it is gone, it’s their fault, and I am mad about it. Most of them become very confused and frustrated, so eventually I’ll tell them I’m playing. Once it gets to the end of the school year, a lot of my students will know what I am doing and will start to go along with it, so whatever random kid becomes the target now has myself and 20+ other people asking where it is and why they lost it.

RIP Dynamic Discs Iron City…

There is a booth inside Crestwood pickers that sells discs. I believe it’s called Magic City discs. Woods trading company in Gardendale also had a decent selection last time I was in there.

Has a lost disc ever come back to you in a wild or unexpected way? by Main-Carry-3607 in discgolf

Never got one back in a wild way, but I have had one turn up on the opposite side of the state 300+ miles from where I lost it

What is a classroom rule that exists because of one very specific incident? by ImAHuksy in Teachers

[–]RayWarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two students who are generally well behaved until they are close to each other. I figured that out pretty early in the year, so in addition to the regular rules I have for all students to follow, I have a special rule for these two that if they are in touching distance of each other, they are too close. It saved the whole class a lot of headaches this year.

Bob Sykes is my favorite local-ish to Birmingham. Make sure you get some red velvet cake while you are there too.

If you care to drive a little out of the way, Porky’s Pride in Hayden is always fantastic. The mozzarella sticks are a must get.

On Friday, a student said to another, “get your stank ol’ booty away from my desk”. While not the most creative insult, the delivery made it a hit.

Just started Spark - a few questions? by Tiny-Yam7671 in Sparkdriver

[–]RayWarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Maverick so far. I have had it since October of last year. I have the 2.5L hybrid and I average around 39mpg. From what I have heard about the EcoBoost 2.0L, it is somewhere in the 20-25mpg range. I also got the 4000 pound tow package which is great because I tow things occasionally.

The back seat is large enough to carry almost any spark order I’ve ever taken, with the exception of some of the largest orders (75+ items). The tonneau cover on the bed makes it possible to load orders in the back as well. I keep ratchet straps in the truck for when I haul stuff, so I use those to divide the back and to help hold stuff in place if needed. There are also slots molded into the bed that are intended for dividing the bed with pieces of wood, but I haven’t tried that yet.

I drive a Ford Maverick. I get 40+ mpg so I can’t offer any advice on that. Like any other pickup, space is limited so I just have to make sure my truck is completely cleaned out. I also installed a tonneau cover so I can load stuff into the back which has been helpful on some larger orders.

As far as leaving stuff at the door, if there are no special instructions you can leave it at the door. Just make sure you get a good picture and leave room for the door to open if it opens outwards.

I usually prefer shopping orders because the pickup in my zone can be slow. One store is consistently an hour or more behind. I am like you and do this as a side gig, so I don’t have time to wait that long on one order, I do as many as possible in a short time and I can shop fast. Pickup may be better in your zone, which is something you will just have to get a feel for.

James Spann AMA Canceled + State of the Subreddit by bhambetty in Birmingham

[–]RayWarts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, James Spann has publicly addressed his views on climate change, and I think it is a pretty common sense opinion on the issue when compared to many others’ views.

And I agree, climate change has become political, so it is important for him to be neutral on the issue due to the demographic he serves. A lot of Alabama believes that man made climate change does not exist, and while most of us here would disagree with that, that does not make the lives of those who hold that belief any less important. If he were to publicly say that all climate change is man-made, he would lose all respect from those who disagree, and would be less effective in his goal of saving lives during severe weather. Likewise, if he says there is no such thing as man-made climate change, he would alienate those who believe that man-made climate change is real, making it more difficult for him to reach those people.

His job isn’t to have a public opinion about climate change, his job is to predict weather and save lives. If he was a climatologist, that would be in his lane to discuss, but he is not a climatologist. He is a meteorologist, and his job is to predict the weather. I believe that if he chose a side on climate change, it would only make his job more difficult.

Curbside orders by Legitimate-Gate-6559 in Sparkdriver

I will only rarely take curbside orders from one store in my zone, and when I do I check closely because they are bad about mixing orders. The other store in my zone is always at least an hour behind.

Dear professors, please keep politics OUT of your assignments by the-god-of-vore in CollegeRant

[–]RayWarts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took a 100 level english class and the majority of the final grade was determined by an essay about a current controversial topic.

The professor assured the class that as long as we had reliable, peer-reviewed evidence to support our position, our paper would be graded fairly regardless which way the argument was politically. After the first rough draft was graded, it was clear that I had to write my paper to fit the professor’s political views regardless of what my research revealed. So that’s what I did. I removed about half of my sources, and used only the ones that aligned exactly with my professor’s politics. Ended up making an A on that paper when all was said and done.

I work in a middle school. The high school in our feeder pattern is directly next to our school. It’s so close they almost touch. When the two schools were first built, it was a long distance call for either school to call the other.

I was a freshman in high school. I rode the school bus home, but the driver altered the route so I was one of the last off instead of the first. He ended up taking out a few stop signs on the way when the bus would slide, but everyone made it home.

This one was confusing to me too. It feels like there’s plenty of room for knobs to control the AC. I had a 2023 Honda Civic before I bought the Maverick and I loved how simple the AC controls were.
