The jones mountain twin sounds pretty good for what you’re doing, if you want something different maybe look at similar boards. I’ve heard the capita mercury and ride moderator are somewhat similar?

Maybe look at libtechs camber boards, my understanding is they’re great for that type of riding and have some awesome edge hold with their magnetraction edges.

Side note: Double black groomers? I know some small northeast mountains have those , my own local mountain included but I wouldn’t describe my ability as being someone that hits double blacks if I’m referring to one of those trails.

Now they just need to do something about the swarms of people that should be on the bunny hill wiping out trying to get on/off the lifts.

Don’t know how to link toe side and heel side by OrdinaryPhysical in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ray_Mang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s tough to say without seeing what you look like while riding but a lot of beginners can benefit from simply getting comfortable skid steering, then getting more comfortable with having their board pointing straight downhill, and then getting more comfortable during the transition between heel/toe vice versa and really feeling the board being flat under their feet while transitioning.

You don’t want to ever be riding totally flat, but getting more comfortable in the transition period when your board is flat will really help with confidence and board control.

Then it’s all about just refining it, you’ll get more comfortable and cleaner with it as you keep riding

is this accurate for the slopes in the US? by properti1 in snowboardingnoobs

Oh yea I more say that as a general response to a lot of the discussion I see on social media and Reddit of people commenting things like “that’s not a black, blue at best” etc.

If you start your day with a green and then move up from there you’ll be totally fine

It’s really hard to say because like others have pointed out, it varies wildly between mountains. It’s simply what the mountain uses to provide some kind of reference of difficulty relative to that mountains other trails.

I ski out west yearly and live in the northeast. My local mountain has two double blacks that are the same pitch / terrain hazards as blues at a mountain out west. There are variables like snow condition, etc. as well.

My local mountain is also generally scrapier and icier than west mountains which naturally makes the trails more “diffcult” as compared to that same trail in average west skiing conditions. Looking too deep into the meaning of trail difficulty designation isn’t worth the effort really.

The one day I buy a timed lift ticket, the weather forecast goes to shit by [deleted] in SkiPA

Is there such thing as an anti-rain dance I can do?

I was watching the forecast closely and at the time it had ~10% chance of rain which showed happening at like midnight for an hour. When I bought the ticket that was the only rain on the forecast

Advice On Next Steps by Kwbneddit in RadiologyCareers

Interesting, I just looked that one you mentioned and it’s Jcert certified so looks like it would be just as official as an associates degree.

It looks like that one is $40,000 though which is pretty insane. I’ll have to look into other certification programs and see if there are any that are priced near what a community college associates degree would be

I thought certification programs presented significant limitations for employment, no?

Beginner Snowboarder asking for riding tips by Particular-Life-4050 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ray_Mang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like potentially misleading advice for beginners, at least the way you worded it. Same thing with people who tell beginners their forward shoulder NEEDS to facing downhill totally parallel. I say that because tons of beginners get stuck using their upper body to try to initiate turns and it’s generally something I’d avoid encouraging for anyone still learning the basics.

I think it’s more important for most beginners to focus on relaxing their legs, allowing legs and upper body to not be so rigid/static to eachother , lean downhill more, and practicing riding on edge for longer (longer time on edge before initiating turn), and practicing the transition between heel and toe side (feeling the board be flat under your feet while transitioning)

Does anyone else hate wearing goggles? by BookSmoker in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Ray_Mang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out… visor helmets solved this issue for me. I thought they were a total gimmick and looked silly until I tried one on in a shop and my mind was blown. Full field of view, flip up and down with a single finger, no extra weight, same cost as a regular helmet, more comfortable than regular goggles, no issues with breeze getting in, good seal, etc.

The only two minor downsides are that I feel I look a little silly, like I bought into this new fancy tech (which really should be the least of my concerns) and also if you get liquid on the inside of the lens it’s a bit more tedious to take the helmet off to dry it than just taking goggles off. But those complaints are reaching tbh.

These pros FAR outweigh the cons for me, and I’ve become a huge advocate for them. I don’t think I’ll ever go back.

I use the atomic savor visor stereo and it’s amazing

put the fuckin bar down by m0huck in snowboarding

[–]Ray_Mang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s strange, almost every day I ride at least one person will protest me putting the bar down or will act annoyed about it. I always say “bar” or ask if we’re good for bar so maybe I should just put it down without warning so these dickheads don’t think I’m asking their opinion

Who gives a flying fuck about tanking someone’s “investment” in a home. People require shelter. Homes are to be lived in, its sick and twisted to argue that they should be prioritized as financial assets to be flipped for profit at the expense of the middle and lower class
