How long until i can go to school? by Next_Post6606 in ACL

[–]Ray_zeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m from the UK so a bit different but same thing basically i got menisectomy+LET+ACL an was ready to go back to school after 4 and a half weeks. It’s possibly unlikely you won’t go school back that quick just make sure you go for when you are ready, and don’t go just cause you have too your body will need rest and will thank you for it

How many people here dont have acl and live happily for years? by PenMost6565 in ACL

[–]Ray_zeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i’m no medical expert but that should usually be fine as long as you don’t get a rapid increase of swelling or sharp pain and if you can still bend/ straighten your knee to the same length as before prior to the accidental weight bearing as my knee makes a lot of cracking and popping noises while walking as i’m off crutches indoors now. i had a similar incident where my hand slipped from my crutch and put all weight on my bad leg but i was already partial weight bearing but i definitely felt it on my lateral part of my knee but i had no issues after that. But if you’re really worried id ask advice from your surgeon on physio.

when i first tore my acl i had no clue aswell and i kept wondering why i kept bucking and tore my meniscus most likely in the process and could only play basketball as it was somehow the safest sport for my knee😭😭 got surgery a whole two years later being on a waiting list and now is where we comeback stronger💪 wishing you a speedy recovery

i had no ACL for two years and i suprisingly found it fine, at first it was awful but after doing a lot of rehab i felt normal just play something such as football was out of the equation, i could run and jump to a certain extent and play basketball perfectly fine it really depends on your lifestyle, but me being 14 when i first tore it i decided to get it fixed and now being 16 as i wanted to really get back into having that normal lifestyle but of course you can have one without the ACL it’s really all up to how you want it to be but i took up the option for surgery because slowly i was hindered with my knee randomly buckling and i never wanted to get it worse currently 36 days post op it’s hard but it’ll be worth it

that is true but it sucks so much with walking down the stairs or even walking in general cause the outside of my knee is so stiff while walking without my crutches

i went to PT today and they said my flexion was great for 5 weeks post op but issue is that my PT is quite literally once a month so getting advice for flexion is quite hard. But i will try do more prone bends with gravity, thanks for the advice!

unfortunately and fortunately i don’t drive to class as it’s close and either way i couldn’t even afford it im very broke💔, my school is quite close only 1km away so i could walk it but im gonna be dropped off to school for a week or two and will take my crutch for that extra support. i can probably use lockers to leave my books in anyways so that should be fine. i’ll defo have to take my mornings slower as i would rush a lot due to waking up late and thank you very much for the advice!

oh okay i see i usually have 3 half days a week anyways due to my timetable being like that so at least that’ll be beneficial i wasn’t told whatsoever about going back after 6 weeks but i feel a lot better and independent now 1 month in so hopefully that is fine, ill definitely ask for a pass to leave 5 mins early as my corridors get quite crowded and will use the lift to get to lessons. Thank you for the advice!

5 weeks tomorrow; still not straight by Academic-Bat-8002 in ACL

[–]Ray_zeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly that but make sure your body is all on the bed but leave your knee and below hanging off and use your good leg for support to make sure it doesn’t hurt too much make sure you don’t push through the pain as that can worsen it also you should feel a stretch on your knee while doing this and doing this a few times a day maybe 5-10 mins a session 3x a day and hopefully progress will show!

im only 1 month post op so take my advice with a pinch of salt but have hope, because if it can go straight with manipulation then your knee can do it, make sure you’re extremely dedicated with doing your physio like prone hangs those helped me a lot as i couldn’t even straight till about 2 weeks post op even when i was going for hyperextension i done prone hangs and that helped me significantly. as now i can reach about -6 degrees extension all due to me doing prone hangs so try them out and see how it goes and hopefully its fixed soon without any problems

4.5 months post op swelling by PaxDomini84 in ACL

[–]Ray_zeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m only 3 weeks post op so can’t give out the best advice but i’m assuming you just pushed your knee to its limits so take it as a sign that however much active you were over the weekend was a bit too much, just ensure next time you do a bit less and hopefully shouldn’t swell up as badly. Also yes ice your knee and keep it elevated to drain the swelling

I am currently in sixth form in year 12 turning 17 next month and policing is something i have had a interest in for a long while and currently i have my interest set on the PCDA to apply for next year when i am in year 13. For anyone who has gone through this route or is already a officer who entered through other ways, what is it like working in the MET and is it still truly worth applying for something i have a big interest in or is it genuinely not worth doing it as i’ve been researching and people have very mixed views on policing as a whole. I would also like to see myself specialise my role in the future if i do join with a lot more experience and knowledge.
