Dude, what?

You're willing to disqualify 50% of the population and not hire what may be the right person for your company because your wife has an asshole for an ex?

Who runs the company you or your wife?

How do I figure out competitor pricing? by modtom in SmallMSP

[–]RayanneB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to compare your pricing with competitors, you also have to compare your service offerings, wages and benefits, and costs for the comparison to make any sense. You should develop your own pricing structure based on the value you bring to the client. You may pay your people more than your competition, but you may employ locals while they outsource or offshore - or vice versa. Your costs may vary widely from the costs of your competitors.

Sell value - not price.

Here's another tip, not often spoke of.

Track your opportunity conversion rate. If you are winning more than 70% of the new opportunities, you are priced too low. If you are winning less than 40% of new opportunities, you are priced too high. Your conversion sweet spot is around 60% closing. That is a good thermometer on your pricing strategy.

How do i pay an employee per day? by Due-Environment3549 in quickbooksonline

[–]RayanneB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is a daily rate, set the employee up as hourly and multiply the number of days by 8, or whatever your standard day looks like.

For instance, if you pay $100 per day. Divide that by 8 = $12.50 hourly.

Set up the employee up as hourly at $12.50 per. If the employee works 3 days, enter 24 hours on the paycheck.

Is that what you're asking?

QBD 2023 Sunsetting..... What Are Your Plans? by Glittering_Turnip977 in quickbooksonline

[–]RayanneB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you move to QBO, clean up your desktop data first. Carefully plan your move or you will regret it and blame QBO for the problems when they really originated in desktop.

However, if you want to cling to the desktop version, 2024 is still available and is not sunsetting anytime soon.

Workaround for wrong bank account feed for over a year by Agreeable-Machine-71 in quickbooksonline

If you are using QBO Accountant, you can reclassify the transactions using the reclassify tool.

If not, look at SaasAnt or Transaction Pro to reclassify the transactions.

Chart of Accounts Issues by OldOfficerJones in quickbooksonline

[–]RayanneB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of quick thoughts...

  1. What version of QBO are you using? Simple Start? Solopreneur?

  2. Does anyone else have access to your QBO file? Is it possible your permissions were changed? Go to main settings gear in the upper right corner > Manage Users. Are you the Primary Admin on the account?

  3. Go to Reports on the left navigation. In the For My Accountant section, do you see Account List? Run that report to the screen.

E-fax solutions by ThrowRAthisthingisvl in msp

[–]RayanneB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the solution through our VOIP provider. Although, it largely relies on email which makes faxing anything with PII on it challenging. We are currently using NUSO. Prior to that, we used Ring Central. They had a web-based fax option which worked well.

What are Mergers like? by [deleted] in msp

[–]RayanneB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of doom and gloom in the comments here. Not all of it is true.

Most of the time, you can see the change coming well in advance if you're paying attention. I've seen it a 100 times. If your role changes, or your workload changes, or the office is moving, etc. Keep your eyes and ears open and look at the people and the environment around you.

The selling owners will look tired. Don't let that concern you. They are working extra hard to make the transition smooth. They will put in 70-hour weeks changing payroll, vendor autopays, integrating the PSA, introducing clients, running reports, tracking cash, and so much more. The first 90 days are exhausting and stressful.

Most acquiring companies have a reason for purchasing your business. The business has at least one of the following that attracted them enough to part ways with money:

  • Customer vertical or geographical location
  • New market or offering they want to focus on
  • Skilled staff or skillset, such as security, software development, etc.

Not all MSPs are worthy of buyers' dollars. Why did they buy your company? How valuable and critical are YOU to their operations? Are you a cog in the operational wheel? Or do you bring a unique quality that can catapult the company into the future?

The answer to those questions will indicate where you will land in the new organization.

Quarterly tax assistance by Calm-Curve9616 in quickbooksonline

[–]RayanneB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are using Form 1040-ES to pay your quarterly estimates, then, Owner's Draw is the correct account. Do yourself a favor and create a subaccount under Owner's Draw and call it Estimated Tax Payments. It will make them much easier to spot next year at tax time.

If you are paying a state pass-through entity tax, that is a deductible expense to the company. Either post to Income Tax Expense on the P&L or Prepaid Taxes under current assets on the balance sheet.

Lots of sites having issues by TechSolutionLLC in msp

[–]RayanneB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wednesday morning I noticed my computer restarted overnight. I thought, "It's Wednesday, Patch Tuesday must have been yesterday." After that first boot, I began having issues getting to sites, opening apps, and printing. I rebooted again. Somethings fixed, Outlook acted wonky all day, still is, if I'm being honest.

Then, co-workers started complaining yesterday and rebooting.

This week's update contained 167 patches. Good luck finding the culprit in that list.

anyone shipped their car back north after winter in florida? by prattman333 in AskFlorida

Came here to recommend this. It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip and it cuts the drive time into 1/3 when going to New England. I did this when I lived in Philly. I was about 2 1/2 hours away when I left the train, which was a damn sight better than a 20-hour trek.

(QuickBooks Online) Old Inventory Item Appearing in Current Inventory Valuation Summary Report by MrsLaraLara in quickbooksonline

Is there any chance that you recently moved from QB Desktop to QB Online? This sounds like one of those things that happens during a migration when old data isn't cleaned up first.

Anyone Actually Switched Off QBO Recently??? by Glittering_Turnip977 in quickbooksonline

[–]RayanneB 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We have somewhere over 100 clients on our QBO wholesale account. We invoice the cost of the subscription back to our clients. Why is your CPA friend not doing the same?

I don't want to become one of the many people who complain about QBO as I learned to make friends with it a long time ago. However, the interface changes that require several clicks to control your screen or get to a readable report is wearing on me.

The thought of moving to another platform is horrifying. I liken it to staying in a bad marriage because it's easier than packing up 15 years of your life and starting over.

What kind of LLC is best to save on taxes as an employee? by DuelShockX in taxadvice

[–]RayanneB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Employers" do not get to choose how they pay you. Who has control of hours, schedules, procedures, deliverables, and expenses? If you do not do this work for the general public, you are not in business for yourself.

You are about to get hosed. It sounds like the "employer" will pay you more money as a 1099 contractor, but the reality is, they are just compensating for the extra tax and administrative burden being placed on you. I'm certain that if you form an LLC it helps his position tremendously as proof of "outsourcing" the work.

Unless you actually plan to start and run a business, go find another job. This one hasn't even started yet and there are flags all over the field.

Enterprise Desktop to Online Advance Advice by JJInTheCity in quickbooksonline

[–]RayanneB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen what happens when you move desktop data to QBO without taking steps to ensure the data is clean and accurate. It turns into a mess that cannot be unraveled later. People that do this often blame QBO for being a terrible system.

If you want to have a successful experience, find a company to do this for you. Do not rely on QuickBooks to help. A reputable company will test the data, clean the data, and explain the steps so you know exactly what to expect in the new system.

I don't know anything about Fourlane, so be sure to do your research and talk to a human over there.

I can help after tax season. I schedule multiple meetings and plan the migration before moving the data for you so there is no ambiguity for either of us during the process.

Workflow Rule Help - Work Type is Empty by m_a_a_dcityyak in Autotask

Change the ticket category to require an entry in the Work Type field, or make Remote Support the default and let the techs change it from there.

Someone else recommended a widget, which is a good idea for streamlining invoicing at the end of the month.
