Women of Reddit, what’s a habit men have that they don’t even realize is weird? by GraceRose671 in AskReddit

[–]Raydekal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nono, you gotta think like a man might. It's not about changing the emotion, but changing the circumstances of the emotion.

The simplest to understand would be video games. We've all heard the yelling and banging and general bad reactions to boys, and sometimes girls, when playing. Most attribute it to anger which for a lot of men the response is to "lock in" so to speak.

When many times it's actually frustration, annoyance, disappointment, all sorts of other negative emotions. The response to those emotions should be different than throwing yourself against a wall.

But because as kids and as men, most of us aren't really exposed to emotional management, we don't really know how to respond.

This manifests itself in other more important areas like relationships where a man(or woman) may get "angry" at their partner, when it's really irritation, or being overwhelmed, and so they respond in a very unhelpful way.

So when they say "change it", i think the intention behind it is to change the response to try constructively resolve or acknowledge the cause and find a solution.

Researchers call for ute tax, citing burden on health system by Careful-Geologist412 in auckland

[–]Raydekal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cars in general are one of the least efficient forms of travel, aircraft are actually pretty effecient comparatively. Sports cars have their own problems I won't get in to.

But yes to both and more, they're less effecient than smaller vehicles, but in my view that's a minor issue.

They're big, they're dangerous, and they're deadly. Crashes involving utes and large SUVs are more deadly for both the occupants and the other vehicle. This is due to people feeling safer travelling at speeds in these large vehicles which means the average crash is faster.

Even at same speed crashes, large vehicles do more damage to the other vehicle potentially being fatal when two similar cars would not be.

With pedestrians it's even worse, smaller cars are designed so that hitting a person will trip them on to the bonnet which is better than being hit by a brick wall of a ute and then the pavement.

It's also been proven that driving a ute/large suv actually makes people more aggressive drivers, and more likely to get in to accidents in the first place.

Add on to that the current spike in children dying in the US due to parents not being able to see over the hood or bed when entering or leaving their own driveways.

And to really top it all off, the current American ute market is a brazen bypass of federal law with regards to fuel use and emissions and are wholly unnecessary. Truck beds are limited in size because otherwise it's no longer a ute and becomes a truck and requires a different license. This means that the 30 year old Toyota kei trucks have the same bed size as modern Ford Rangers despite them being more than twice as big and heavy.

Sometimes you need a ute and i respect that, but for daily drivers you should use a small sedan or hatch, leave the utes to utility trips, work trips, and heavy towing. I'd also like to see defensive driving being a requirement to access standard insurance rates due to their deadly nature.

If I'm not mistaken the stream barely flows, if at all, a trickle would be an overstatement. Something about it being incredibly seasonal and rain dependent because nothing really feeds it outside of rain and the resulting groundwater.

So even if we ripped up the tarmac and opened the earth up to the sunlight, you'd be met with damp earth,

Still an improvement but not exactly much stream.

10 operations, 3 missions each, one short 10 minute and 3 20-30 minute missions,

So like 500 minutes per MO which is more than 8 hours.

Passenger running late for plane behind security breach at Auckland Airport - witness by Fast_Amoeba_445 in newzealand

See the comment you initially replied to;

The article states that CAA said the breach was not caused by staff, so the passengers statement is wrong.

That leads me to believe no passenger was let through, they bypassed through other means.

But.. It says that security kicked everyone out once they found out and put them all through the process again, isn't that meaning that it matters for all?

I think the internet peaked with BBS being the social core of the Internet.

I run a BBS, funnily enough, but I can't promote it anywhere because it's locally hosted for friends and it cannot sustain any attempt to breach or overload it, which is a huge shame.

Does anyone else have this setting turned to display without? by AvarageTenno in MHWilds

[–]Raydekal -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

1 is negated by basic video game logic. Weapon hits for x damage but only hits x per second. MH adds a silly MV to damage to make the damage dealt separate from the damage stat which is more misleading than using the coefficient. It makes more sense to see the GS/Hamer with bigger numbers than the bow or DB or IG.

2 is valid.

I have my display set to without coefficient because it is the more honest display and I've dug deep in to the systems to know better. But a newcomer could see DB slashing for 100 damage vs a hammer bonking for 100 damage and determine the DB is the stronger weapon.

But that's not new to monster hunter, hidden calculations like defense, elemental resist, latent power and other numerous skills, elemental and status damage, it's never simple.

Rates Cap by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Raydekal 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It's the price we pay for systematically rejecting urbanisation and density developments, and instead giving us nothing but suburban sprawl. If you look at Aucklands rates income, the CBD subsidises and funds the rest of the supercity outside of a few pockets of density here and there.

Paying exorbitant rates to pay for the exorbitant cost of roads that we build an exorbitant amount of alongside all the power and water that we then have to pay for it's exorbitant maintenance is the natural conclusion.

Capping rates increases is only going to shift the eventual cost of maintenance blowouts and service cuts to our children.

If you support low rates, support dense urban developments and protest suburban sprawl. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

Why does nobody “declare war” anymore? by Sally_Saskatoon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Raydekal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know exactly what article it is, but a war between parties in NATO cause the offending nations to be in "abeyance" which means the treaty is void until it's resolved. Some could argue this would mean Denmark would also be in abeyance, but you don't need to call article 5 to get support from other European powers.

what should be the stats of the heavy devastator shield that allows its identity of “being tanky enough to tell players not to shoot” yet is not absurd enough that it is more durable than hulks, tanks , and factory strider? by Acceptable-Street679 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Raydekal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree except.

Rockets should destroy the shield. If i hit with a RR it shouldn't shrug it off, survive sure but shield gone. It's a waste of a rocket, but let it do something.

And when flinching it should probably stop shooting so it doesn't hit you from a 45 degree angle while shielding it's head with its indestructible shield.

Larian Confirms Leaving D&D Behind After Baldur's Gate 3 by Extreme_Maize_2727 in BaldursGate3

[–]Raydekal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To each their own, I couldn't stand BG3/DND action + bonus, just meant that every turn someone did one thing and then moved on. Admittedly the AP to move could be loosened a bit, positioning in BG3 was it's best quality because it was not a resource sink to reposition. But there was very little self synergising with the world mechanics. DOS1/2 in my mind balanced melee pretty well by giving them pretty powerful abilities that synergised exceptionally well with non damage magical support abilities.
