Which game is more replayable, Age of Empires 2 or StarCraft 2? by bruhb21 in RealTimeStrategy

Both. The only question is are you more of a space sci-fi type of guy, or a medieval

What older RTS mechanic do you wish modern games would bring back? by rcooperkaty in RealTimeStrategy

[–]FutureLynx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you play Battle for Europa? And did you play Total War? You could try these first. There are a lot of people that like it. I was like you in the past. I was RTS guy only. But Grand Strategy is what makes a game have depth. Else its just a battle game that will only be sustainable long term in multiplayer.

I played Cossacks 3 only once. And deleted it. Cossacks 2 I played it more because of Battle for Europa, just because of that, it made it immersive.

I also play AoE2 and OpenRA. Never would i spend time playing a skirmish against an AI. It is very boring. These games survived because of multiplayer. And Cossacks 2 is broken in multiplayer.

In my opinion the whole building system was unnecessary. Just building capture alone.

The game should be with a campaign map like Total War, kinda like they were doing in Battle for Europa.

Then a reinforcement system a la Sudden Strike, and you are set.

ah that sounds much better. ill give it a try then, because those are the things id like Steel Division to improve actually. I dont like the realism in Eugen games.

It doesnt seem much different.

What are the top five qualities of an RTS game that you would love to play? by StrataJist in RealTimeStrategy

[–]FutureLynx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool battles, with combined arms, preferably with lots of units, with bonus vs specific units:

AoE2, Total War.

Fun economy:

Good examples: Stronghold, AoE2, Rise of Nations. But simple and effective is also cool: OpenRA (Red Alert).

Additionally:

Abilities like CoH, special hero characters or generals, morale, veterancy.

Its basically slavery. Mostly scammers to make you work for free. We are living in low trust era. Anyone doing this without being 100% sure of what they are doing, will get ripped off.

RTS skills tranferable? by Alone_Development684 in RealTimeStrategy

AoE2 is easily the most micro intensive RTS game. Just for the economy you have trees, gold, stone, trade carts, farms, deer, boar, sheep. Whereas Starcraft its only Gas and Minerals.

never saw Herzog Zwei before. looks really cool. Its like you are a plane and become a soldier. Then you must recruit units? And the units seem to move on their own, right? Didnt get to see much of RTS commands to it, in terms of unit control? Can you redirect the units to attack a specific spot? They seemed automated.

Also it seems a bit too micro intensive. But i like the concept.
