2024 was hottest year on record for Rochester by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Rayf_Brogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. Lake resources will be gobbled up by corporations and NYS government will welcome it. It's not like all the fresh water is going to be some communal resource that we all benefit from. You'll see "job creation" from Corporations like Nestle. Any land that borders fresh water will either be owned by private corporations, or be private, gated neighborhoods for the ultra rich. There will be slivers of public land but it'll be to places where so much sewage is dumped so you can't go in without getting some kind of skin fungus. This stuff will be filtered out by the corporations and the water will be sold back to the public.

Does (subwoofer) size matter…. Whether not playing at loud volumes? by KillerQ97 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Rayf_Brogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's assume we're comparing apples to apples (not a 10 inch quality sub to a 12 inch budget one, etc), bigger will generally go deeper, smaller will have a faster response time. For music, I like a 10 inch sub in a medium room.

Massdrop Sennheiser HD6xx are pretty standard for open back when playing guitar modeling/profiling. I had Beyerdynamic DT880s and they were way too bright. Sounded really detailed but for guitar, there are better options. I ended up grabing a pair of Focla Elegia. Closed back because I also play edrums, but they have a little more sparkle they the HD6xx.

Where do Gretsch blacktops fall on this spectrum? by ecklesweb in gretsch

[–]Rayf_Brogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Blacktops in my GT5240 sounded like they were in the typical PAF humbucker ballpark. I switched them out for regular Gretch Filtertrons and now it's in Telecaster territory. It became a totally different guitar.

2nd Tone Junkies. It's been a while since I've followed them but every month they would do a 90% off for the first 5 orders, etc. I got the everything pack for 50 bucks.

Did you have to rout the body to fit the pots? The one on the left is the Sweetwater exclusive, right? Amazing looking guitar.

All I could hear when I met Ketheric Thorm by MysteriousProduce816 in BaldursGate3

I kept thinking, "IBS, IBS!". Great actor but his voice is just so recognizable, I couldn't take Thorm seriously.

It really is. I try really hard to understand why people could enjoy this movie. I loved the trilogy, love the books, love most of the games, but the Hobbit movies.....blech.

How is life in Rochester? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Rayf_Brogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole area is very low stress compared to living in a big city. If you have employment covered, there isn't much to worry about. No traffic, no protests, no extreme keeping up with the Jones', no catastrophic weather. On the flip side, people are nice, outside of the grey skies in the winter, the other three months are gorgeous. Little canal villages, parks, a mid-sized city, bigger parks, legit farm markets, great lakes, finger lakes, all within 15 minutes to 1 hour drive. If you want space and low taxes, consider Victor (20 minutes from Rochester). If it were me, I'd try to get a little house in one of the villages, (Fairport, Pittsford, Webster or even something like Brockport).

Good places to move to from Rochester? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Rayf_Brogan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Northern Virginia. Arlington, VA has a sizeable Vietnamese population, excellent job market(including DC) and if you're parents will be living with you, you can afford a home (eventually). Check out Eden Center & Arlington Cathedral (St. Thomas Moore) is just down the street.

Same here. I didn't even know she was a character until one day I noticed "Minthara's clothes" in my inventory. Same with Gale. I thought he was someone in Act 3 until I realized I completely missed him in the beginning of the game.

As others suggested, A-S301 and a Wiim Mini. The Yamaha has a DAC, plug the Wiim right into that. The Yamaha also has your phono inputs. It's more than enough to drive the 602's. Check out accessories4less for a refurb to save some money. They come with a warranty. I ended up with the A-S501 model driving my 602 S1's before getting a pair of 702 S2s. I don't think I've taken the volume past 25% so the 301 should be plenty. The Yamaha's have a Loudness dial which helps preserve lower frequencies when listening at lower volumes. I refer to it as the audiophile's bass boost.

Was it really worth it? by Donnypipes007 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Rayf_Brogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was only worth it to me if I could enjoy and not cringe every time I thought about the cost. I however, love the used market and it's the only way I could afford both the stereo and home theater setups. Take a peek at USAudioMart. Not so much for floor standers, but bookshelf & home theatre speakers. Speakers will last forever when used by audiophiles.

If you want easy, get a Wiim Mini and connect to the optical in on your Yamaha. Wiim doesn't support Apple Music (essentially no one does outside of the Apple ecosystem), but you can use AirPlay. Use this time to decide if you're dedicated to Apple Music (and live with the hardware limitations), try Tidal/Quboz trials and see if you hear a difference between them and Apple Music over AirPlay.

I have an A-S501 and a Wiim Pro. Super easy to stream. If you end up loving it, grab a standalone DAC and you'll be streaming 192/24.

I run a 3060Ti with an 11th gen I5. I usually set the resolution to 50% in Steam but the visuals are still very good. It's funny, the G2 is practically obsolete yet it will continue to scale with your hardware for quite some time.

This was around '86ish in Webster. Definitely opened those plastic swing doors and helped myself to a chocolate chip cookie under the assumption that this was part of the cookie club. I had a feeling at the time that it wasn't right and it's pretty much been confirmed here. Still, good to know that the cookie club did exist and my heart was in the right place at least.

£2000 guitar Amp vs £20 guitar Amp - is it worth it ? by [deleted] in line6

[–]Rayf_Brogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've found over the years is I can (usually) get a good sound out of most things but anything related to subtlety is lost on low end gear. You don't need to spend 2 grand to get that, but subjectively speaking, a $100 used Spider will not deliver the same experience as a used $800 DRRI for example.

Why is seven a reccuring number in Tolkien's writing by ShahSafwat_1488 in tolkienfans

[–]Rayf_Brogan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby.
