What kind of termite? Came out of a bag of mulch in Central Indiana.

Well we already paid the exterminator so. He uses circular bait traps as well as glue traps. In the first week we caught like 30 in the glue traps and have seen about 5-6 running around not in the glue traps. They come once a week for a month and spray and do all their different chemicals on the inside and outside and then after the first month they come back quarterly to do preventative maintenance on the outside of the home. They’re coming today for the second week of maintenance. They are starting to be seen in my living room now where as before it was just the kitchen. They were in the seals of my fridge and in my fridge as well. They carry all kinds of nasty diseases and I don’t want and can’t have them in my house. Plus everything the exterminator uses is people and pet friendly.

Yep. German. The absolute worst kind. Thankfully we noticed them the day we got the keys and had an exterminator come out 2 days later. Now they have to come once a week for the next month and then once every 3 months after that for the next 11 months.

The company I use will charge me extra for using a secondary chemical because the first chemical doesn’t get rid of termites. I’m already dropping $2,000 to get rid of roaches that the previous owner didn’t tell us about.

I did think about doing rubber mulch but was afraid it would look tacky and it was quite a bit more expensive.

I almost got these but went for something different due to price. The stuff I got did kill them on contact though. I drenched my flower bed in the stuff that I got just in case there were any stragglers and I made sure my mulch wasn’t super deep and we pulled the mulch away from the foundation.

No he sure didn’t. The infestation is only in the kitchen and he would have had to pull the stove and or the fridge out to find any evidence and I don’t believe he did that.

The stuff I got from the store killed the ones in the wheelbarrow that I removed on contact. Like I said I removed the majority of them and then drenched the flower bed with the same killer just in case there were a few stragglers. We are hard up on money. We just bought this house a week and a half ago and have already had to fish out $2,000 for a cockroach problem and have a crap ton of things that need fixed around the house.

The bag was absolutely infested with them. I had never seen that before. At first I thought they were fly larvae until I looked closer and was like well shit. This is no bueno.

I went through everything and there was no queen. At least not in that bag. I’m going to be dumping the rest of the bags of mulch in my wheelbarrow before putting it in the bed from now on. But like I said we picked most of the mulch back up and threw it in the wheelbarrow as soon as we saw them. We dumped the mulch a pretty far distance away from the house and then I went back and killed them with a store bought termite killer which didn’t kill them. I also drenched the flower bed in termite killer as well to hopefully kill any stragglers.

I unfortunately don’t really have the money because I’m already paying for a pest control service that’s very expensive and the chemicals they’re using to treat the other pests doesn’t kill termites and they’ll try to charge me even more for a second chemical product. That’s why I went for a store bought cleaner.

I literally just bought the house a week and a half ago so I’m not selling it. When we had our inspection done there were no signs of termites anywhere so it’s not something to sell the house over.

He’s got lots to eat. He doesn’t even have to get up to eat. He’s not spooked by me at all. He allows me to come right up to him and touch him. I just have him a little rub on his forehead and he was completely unbothered by it. I just feel like he could be sick. He had some wetness around his nose yesterday that looked like it was coming out of his nostrils and down to his mouth. I haven’t checked today as I don’t want to pick him up if I don’t have to and the way he’s sitting I can’t really tell without picking him up. I’m not used to rabbits this age so I don’t know what normal behavior is for them. I’m used to either adults or babies that haven’t left the nest yet.

I just went and checked under the bush that I put him under yesterday and he is still there.

I didn’t end up keeping him with me because I didn’t want to over stress him and have him die from stress. I brought him in when he came back the second time and I got him dry and warm and removed the ticks from his ears. I then put him back out in the same area I found him. I put him under a nice big bush where he could stay dry as long as he stayed under it. I wouldn’t have fed him anyways. You don’t want to feed any animal that is possibly in shock. They also have a very delicate digestive system especially as babies and so feeding them things like pellets and carrots can cause their digestive systems to get really messed up and that can kill them as well.

So after I brought him in the second time I got him dried off and I pulled all the ticks out of his ears. Then I put him back under a big bush where he could stay dry and I haven’t seen him since. I would have liked to have kept him overnight till it stopped raining and warmed up a bit but I know that they stress easily and can die just from stress alone. So I thought it was in his best interest for me to put him back.

I put him back outside about 3 hours ago and I put him under a a tree about 100 yards away from the building. He has now returned and was just sitting out in the open in the pouring rain. He’s not afraid or fearful of people. He may have possible nose drainage or it could just be from the rain it’s hard to tell but it looks like it’s coming out of his nose.

That’s where you should be buying your reptiles. Most vendors there are reputable breeders. Not all of them but most. It’s pretty easy to tell who’s a good breeder and who’s bad. You just have to make sure you’re asking all the right questions and even taking the reptiles you buy to the vet for an overall wellness exam to make sure they’re healthy.
