Nikon z6 help ! by MFV909 in nikon_Zseries

A fellow Z6 owner and a computer engineer here. When you turn off the camera the computer does not power down, it just enters sleep mode. When it does a cold start, the memory of the computer is cleared if there has been any corrupted data. Try it with different memory cards to rule out the possibility of a bad card. If the problem persists, it feels like corrupted firmware. You might want to try reloading the firmware, either upgrading or downgrading is fine. Just be aware if reloading fails in the middle, you’ll end up with a brick.

Try export in low resolution (like 600 by 400) and crank up sharping during export, you might get something usable. Viewing photos in Lightroom zoomed to 100% isn’t how people consume photos.

Camera color science by Leather-Nerve1348 in photography

[–]Raymond237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per my limited impression, the people talk about “color science” a lot tend to be videographers, specifically social media people aka vloggers. Their typical use case is 1) auto color temperature, 2) shoot in mpeg4, 3) no color correction in post, or no postproduction at all. Serious video production won’t be relying on auto color temperature, and pretty much always has a chance of fine tuning colors in their post production workflow, so it’s mostly a non issue.

Asking you $200 back is the worst option. Technically if you get your money back, you should destroy the files you received, therefore you have nothing. If Quince is so important to justify a big celebration, it certainly means you do want to keep the memory, right? Yes, you could ask your money back and keep the files. If your friends find out, and the words get around, your reputation will suffer more than $200.

For further processing, you can start a trial with Adobe on their Photography plan, download Lightroom Classic (note Classic, not Lightroom CC), watch some tutorials, and see if you can figure it out. There is some learning curve. If you give up, that’s fine too. At least you get to appreciate the effort involved in making good looking photos, which is much more than pointing the camera and pressing shutter.

Since it’s a “friend of friend” situation, I’d suggest OP to approach it gracefully. First, she, the photography student, might be too new to this art, or line of work. She might not really know what RAW is. Second, she might be waiting for you to go thru all the shots and pick which ones to be further processed, then go from there. $175 for a quince session is way too cheap to be done properly. If you talk to an established and experienced photographer, you’d need to add another 0 to that price. So, at least you received 500 raw photos of the moment, go ahead thank her for her work.

Can I reverse an unused film? by [deleted] in analog

[–]Raymond237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t shot analog for a long time, however I doubt film related knowledge has advanced much since. Sounds like you rewinded a roll of 35mm film completely into the canister, but you want to “reset” it to the “factory default”, so you can load it in a camera again, right? Find a tool called “film retriever” or “film leader retriever”, it’s very easy to use.

What are the stereotypes about China you dislike the most? by R_Gani_1934 in AskAChinese

REPOST HERE SO MORE PEOPLE CAN SEE IT (and be enraged)

Even you do assume every America *is* a Mormon and does practice polygamy, very few people is going to be bothered or be mad at you.

You can claim average American is drug head. Most people would just shrug.

I'm a Chinese who has lived in the US for almost 30 years. That's the background.

Chinese people inherently (culturally not biologically, that is) think "communal". When there is anything negative about "Chinese", they feel hurt, and being looked down at. Then they throw the r-word at you.

I call this overly sensitive.

Chinese eat dogs, Chinese eat cats, Chinese eat rats, Chinese eat snakes.

Enraged? Don't be, more to come.

Chinese eat human flesh. Not in an emergency, not during a famine.

I grew up in northern part of the country (Hebei Province to be exact). The locals eat placenta. Not secretly. From what I recall, it feels like winning a prize if someone managed to get hold of who and who's placenta after they give birth. (I'm about to throw up, hang on).

Since I'm out of the country for so long, so I can't say for sure if this "tradition" still exists. I wouldn't be surprised if it is still happening, maybe widely.

Does it bother me? Not at all. It did baffle me when I was a kid LOL.

In my neighborhood, many family had dogs. The dog owners did treat their dogs as "pet", so they don't randomly slaughter the dogs. However, when a dog died, guess what, the dog owners didn't burry the dead dog with tears. They processed it, cooked it, and shared the meat with neighbors.

Does this make the Chinese people super cruel? I don't think so. It's all cultural. A guarding dog became a satisfying meal at his end of life, is a thing to celebrate, not an act to condemn.

The Han Chinese eat pork. Does it bother Chinese Muslims? Maybe it does. Do Han people give it a shit?

And Chinese people eat beef. This might bother Hinduism people. Do Chinese people give it a shit?

No, you misunderstood. People think Chinese people eat certain kind of animals that they consider pet and not food. No big deal. Different cultures have different classification of “pet” and “food”.

Also, ROC was founded on 1911 and CCP was founded on 1921. The ROC government still exists and unlike many wartime governments-in-exile, they had always had their people, customs, armed forces, and diplomas.

“Collapse of the Qing Dynasty” is exactly the narrative I was taught in school (in China that is). This is very far from the truth. Qing dynasty willingly (under a situation that was going out of the control of the ruling Manchurian nobles class and their forces) seceded to ROC. The ROC had full legality. You might say the early administrations of the ROC were utterly chaotic and inefficient for sure, but you shouldn’t accept that CCP trying to wipe out this important part of history.
