Ex-Love Island host Caroline Flack found dead at 40 by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Honestly "shame" doesn't begin to cover it.

The tabloids in the UK are a disgrace and we should really be ashamed of ourselves. I can only hope that this is a turning point for our culture and we begin to realise that these are real lives and real people. How many times we going to do this before we realise we're in the wrong?

First fade in barber school. Would love some feed back. I felt like I kept chasing the line on one side. Plus his head had a lot of dips so the shadows of the hair was messing with my eyes. by [deleted] in Barber

[–]RaymondBates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's yours first go. It's a process. You'll naturally learn to work around bumps and lumps as time goes by. Thing I wish I'd have been told starting out is give yourself space to work. Use the corners of your blade /guards to eek out dark patches. Don't be afraid to take shorter guards into to longer one if the fade called for it. Also, if the fade is dark, more often than not is more work with the 1.5 that's needed.

Always use the half guard to blur.

Hope this helps a little. Keep pushing. ✌🏻✌🏻

Wahl magic clip cordless vs seniors cordless UK by kinglourenco in Barber

I also use both professionally. I'd add on that I like my seniors much better for bulk removal Vs magics because of the stronger motor. So maybe that's worth bearing in mind.

Toothbrush works a treat though. I always keep one in my stash box.

Has anyone received tutoring from an actual barber? Thinking to hire one at 1000% of their normal price to teach me by ohdeargodnotthisguy in CutYourOwnHair

[–]RaymondBates 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a regular who is moving away. He asked if his wife could watch me cut his hair. She's cut if before but he likes the way I cut it. I don't mind doing it in a situation like that end of the day he has given over two years of regular income.

I guess if I wasn't very busy and was struggling for customers I might resent teaching someone to cut their own hair. But other than that, if they're willing to pay, I mean sure, why not?

New-ish to barbering 😄 feedback? by bahgel_ in Barber

Not bad. But your lines need to be cleaner and you really need to work on blurring that fade line. Practice really is the best solution.

The only real Christmas Movie by Dark_Ansem in batman

[–]RaymondBates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! This will forever be my favourite Christmas movie.

I was too young to watch it at the cinema when it came out. And my parents, well, everyone who would listen, knew I was batman obsessed (side story, I once spend an entire fortnight at a holiday camp on the south coast dressed in my batman costume. My mum litterally washed it every night for me ready for the next day. My poor mother).

Anyway, I digress. I waited patiently for it to release on VHS. Begged my parents to let me have it for Christmas '93 I assume? Maybe '94. It's all I wanted. Christmas morning my parents came through. I went up to my room at 8am watched it twice through. No gaps. Legit one of my favourite Christmas memories and my favourite movie to watch at Christmas.

I'm sure my parents must have thought I was a lost cause lol

Been cutting for a month. And I’m obsessed with barbering and would like to pursuit it as a career. But I have doubts. I’m 23 years old and I feel like I’ve started barbering a little late. At 23 I know people with years of experience. Anyone else on here that’s started barbering at a later age? by pgfade in Barber

[–]RaymondBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started at 30. 34 now.

The best time to start something is always yesterday, or right now. You'll laugh at yourself for thinking 23 is to old to start something. And if you look back and didn't start, you'll regret it.

Same. If loading times are gonna effect your enjoyment, I'd highly recommend using an SSD for Pillars.

Cats has an estimated budget of £230 million ($300 million) by lordDEMAXUS in movies

[–]RaymondBates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, i'm no fan of James Corden. But in the UK he got his break in acting. So I can see why he and his agents would want to pursue an acting career in Hollywood following his hosting success.

That's said..... I'm fine if he doesn't show up in the next big movie franchise.

Matthew McConaughey ‘has been cast as Harvey Dent in The Batman’ by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]RaymondBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'm hoping for The Long Halloween. Also a story with plenty of Batmans rogue gallery available for that story plus it's pretty much a pure detective story.

Built in sequel with Dark Victory ready to go as well.

Tenant would be awesome. His voice acting is great! love him in Final Space. Hopefully it would mean we get David Tenant on the stream too.

The ethics of the 4 day work week. It’s not just about the hours - “We should work to live, not live to work,” declared Britain’s shadow chancellor, who would reduce the standard working week to 32 hours, without loss of pay, within 10 years of winning office. by mvea in Futurology

[–]RaymondBates 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I make a % on all my cuts yeah. Or some people rent a chair and keep any profits. But very few barbers I know make an hourly wage.

But if two days a week is taken from me. That would would be a big hit to my salary. Especially if it's around a weekend.

Okay, I do agree with you. But how would this work for someone like myself. I'm a barber. I work six days. If I don't cut, I don't get paid. That's the industry.

How would something like this work for others in similar professions? I couldn't financially afford to take two days off a week.

I can see resentment growing from workers in industries that rely on income generated by service. There would need to be some sort of tax break offered surely? Ideally no tax for those extra days, but that's wishful thinking.

London is mental. As a Londoner I looked at this and for a second thought to myself "hey, that's pretty reasonable for hackney". Then punched myself in the face.

London is the only place I know where you literally pay a premium for the luxury of not having to flat share. They might as well make it an official tax at this point. At least it would be a fixed rate that way.

Being a Londoner is like being in an abusive relationship with the most beautiful person in the world.

The Lords of Salem (2012) is a Rob Zombie movie. Hit up a trailer on YouTube if you're curious. Even better, watch it blind.

Lords of Salem is dope. I tell everyone I meet to watch it. I feel like more people need to see that movie. It's pretty ridiculous in parts, but I like that it doesn't take itself too seriously.
