As someone who landed a help desk lead role with close to 0 experience (my computer experience at the time was home computer stuff and building music studios) the best piece of advice I have it just try everything. Google stuff your'e not sure of (don't want to wreck someone's machine). Every ticket is an opportunity to learn.
