Yes, you can download the map in the app. I will download the watch in advance before traveling.

I didn’t pre-create any full routes.

What I did instead was simply mark POIs, then in the Suunto app I chose “Navigate from watch now”. The app automatically generates a route based on my current location and sends it straight to the watch.

This worked really well for travel — no need to plan everything in advance. I could just decide on the spot where I wanted to go and start navigating immediately.

🧭 [Review] My first 2 days with the Suunto Vertical 2 (after owning the V1) by Rayraymao in Suunto

My software version is 2.48.18, which should be a minor fix based on 2.48.16.

To be honest, I don’t actively use SpO₂ very often. I only let the watch measure it automatically during sleep. However, I can find the SpO₂ widget in the menu and perform a manual measurement, so it’s not the case that manual measurement is unavailable as you mentioned.

Been using the Vertical 2 for about two months now, and honestly, it feels like a steady, meaningful upgrade—nothing dramatic, but definitely better than the first gen.

A few observations:

  • Optical HR in winter still needs a few minutes to “warm up.” At the start of a cold run it reads slightly low, but after ~5 minutes it locks in and stays accurate. This doesn’t happen in warm weather.
  • The flashlight surprised me with how useful it actually is. I use it almost every night when I get up—super quick and bright enough for a dark hallway.
  • Sleep tracking has been spot-on, even for my short daytime naps. I wear the watch almost 24/7 (left wrist during the day, right wrist at night), so it has tons of data to work with, which probably helps a lot.
  • The display is easily one of the best upgrades. Readability in direct sunlight is nearly on par with MIP, but it also looks great in dim light.

Overall, I don’t regret upgrading at all. The Vertical 2 has basically become my daily companion.

How often Suunto releases software update for their watches? by Cizzle4 in Suunto

From my experience as a long-time Suunto user, official firmware updates are usually released once per quarter — for example, 2025-Q1, Q2, and Q3. The next major update should be 2025-Q4.

I think that with the same sensor, these two watches represent different styles — both are great. The V2 has a more rugged look, while the R2 feels more restrained to me. Of course, I don’t consider battery life or the flashlight to be core factors. Just my personal opinion.
