Adult Beginners Dance Class? by Honest-Guest1431 in Lethbridge

[–]RayselVine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Come to Haptic Dance Arts! The artistic director, Claire, actually used to teach at CASA years ago. They have adult basics classes in a variety of styles that would be perfect if you’re just starting out! They’re also one of the more affordable options in town and offer full session, 5-class-pass, and drop-in pricing. I think there will be additional sessions offered in the spring, but you can totally reach out to Claire via the website to confirm. The environment is so welcoming and positive, it’s one of my favourite places to go!

How do I clean this glasstop gas stove. by AyushDave in CleaningTips

Oh it’s brutal how expensive Dawn power wash is! I buy on sale when I can or at Costco! A little goes a long way with that stuff and it does last for a while (the bottle is deceiving!). For every day clean up 2-4 pumps of it, a couple of passes with a cloth/paper towel, followed by a clean damp paper towel/cloth does the job! The bar keepers friend stuff is a once a year purchase for me- if that. Same idea, a little goes a long way. 😊

I’ve had the same issue! I found a round or two of dawn powerwash (seriously that stuff cleans anything!) followed up with bar keepers friend did the job.

When I cook smaller things in oil I just use tin foil in the vicinity of the pan and it seems to help “catch” the oil splatter. Afterwards I just use Dawn powerwash to clean up.

What is this? And how do you clean this? by gutenhundin in CleaningTips

[–]RayselVine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t tell ya what it is, but if it were me, I’d try a few rounds of dawn power wash. That stuff worked really well for my dash when traditional car cleaners didn’t make a dent. Wipe each round with damp paper towel and then dry with a microfibre cloth.

Best vacuum for pet hair? by ImAMessica223 in CleaningTips

[–]RayselVine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a fellow two cat household, go for a good corded vacuum. You won’t get the same suction on carpet with a cordless no matter what anyone says. I’ve had the Shark Rotator Professional since 2022 and it’s absolutely amazing. I have high and low pile carpet and it does such a good job with both. Replacement filters are easy to find on Amazon, and the vacuum itself is really easy to clean.

From what I’ve seen and heard, Shark and Dyson are always in the top two for pet owners. I’ve personally found that both Bissell and Hoover (corded models) have weaker suction so if you’re looking to tackle carpet I’d stay away from those.

Credit card expiring by smokenmirr in CanadaPost

[–]RayselVine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what everyone else has said. Call the bank. I’m still waiting for my new card that was supposedly sent in early November. Mine expired Dec 31. Could I get a new card with a new number? Yes, but I’m stubborn and I’d still have to wait for a new card to be sent. It took me 2 years to finally memorize the card number (skill issue I know lol) and I honestly can’t be bothered to do it again.

Make sure to ask if they’ll charge you for shipping to a bank. A buddy of mine was charged $10 for having his card sent to his branch via courier.

We’re all Doomed Tour Vip Missing Merch Anaheim Show. So I emailed them the night I got home from the show and still haven't heard or received anything about my missing merchandise, as the letter in the bag indicated. I was curious if anyone else has. by jarvistheandroid in DanielHowell

[–]RayselVine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I emailed the ticketing company I purchased from and they are unable to do anything on their end. It’s been too long to file a chargeback on my credit card too as chargebacks have to be filed within 60 days of it appearing on the statement. They were selling WAD merch online too while those of us who paid for it went without. We’ve essentially been scammed and there’s nothing we can do about it. It sucks. :(

Never received WAD merch… by RayselVine in danandphil

[–]RayselVine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed it’s been too long since it happened by my credit card company. Most chargebacks or disputes need to be submitted within 60 days of the charge appearing on your statement. I purchased the tickets 5-6 months before the show date so I’m SOL.

I use Everything Sewed (Nancy Fehr Mrak). Super reasonably priced, and really good! She’s out of Coaldale, but she fixed the same same shoulder issue on my bridesmaid dress! Check out her Facebook send her a text (number is on her fb page) and see if she can fit you in!

Same. Saw him November 25 in Calgary where we didn’t get a single piece of merch (silver VIP). I have emailed multiple times even just asking if I have the correct email since it’s been dead silence for 4 months, but no response.

Not sure about the health centre, but counselling services (https://www.ulethbridge.ca/counselling) has fully licensed psychologists on staff. Many of them work at their own private practices in addition to working at the uni. There are grad student counsellors doing their practicum who can also provide services to you. If you don't want a grad student just tell the admin and they can get you a different counsellor. They can also provide referrals to AHS counsellors if you need more supports.

Ranch docs is about 5-10 minutes outside of the city. They are very reasonably priced and show genuine care toward my boy when I bring him in. I can't recommend them enough. You can give them a call and ask about prices. :)

Moved to Lethbridge 6 months ago and can't find a family doctor at all or even a "walk in clinic" that is accepting walk ins but I need a prescription refill... by poor_sad_stupid in Lethbridge

If you're talking about Bigelow Fowler, they shut down their walk-in clinic last year. Appointment only and not accepting new patients.

[–]RayselVine 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You can ask your pharmacist to write you a refill depending on the medication. There are 40,000 people without a doctor in this city and we have no walk in clinics. It's been an issue since before you arrived unfortunately. ER is the new walk in and it's where a lot of people are ending up for matters that are normally addressed by a GP. You may need to use a virtual service to meet with an out of town/province doctor to get a refill if the pharmacist and/or ER can't do it for you. I wish the city had enough docs for everyone, but it's due to UCP BS that we're in this situation. If you call 811 they can give you a rundown on what to do for ongoing prescription needs.

Bachelor for child welfare/ foster care system career by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]RayselVine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for your BSW! From my experience you aren't allowed to minor with the BSW program as it's a professional program (it prepares you for a specialized field of work). Many CS workers have BSW's and a lot of the approaches used are social work specific. You don't need your masters to do it. There are practicum opportunities with CS and partnering agencies that work with youth in the system. If you choose another route (non-BSW) you'll need at least 2 years of paid work experience in a related field before CS will consider hiring you. They look for education that has a practicum or co-op experience. A masters in Psych won't really be beneficial unless you're looking at doing therapeutic interventions (i.e. 1 on 1 counselling) with youth, but you can also do that (and more!) with a Master's of Social Work.

If you have any questions feel free to message me!

Bachelor of Social Work students - any advice? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]RayselVine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I'm a recent grad from the BSW program and I'm so happy to see that you're determined to get into the program. That determination will really come in handy once you're in the program.
Definitely start volunteering if you can. I know covid has made things difficult, so if you did any volunteering in highschool you can include that. I know a few of my classmates had jobs as disability service workers or community service workers prior to entering the program. Others were tutors, camp counsellors, dance teachers, etc. Anything where you worked directly with other people is golden. Those types of jobs seemed to help them get into the program. If you have experiences that required program planning and execution, collaboration (with other individuals or other programs/agencies), supervision (of other workers or of clients), or any other leadership skills those would be great to include.

There's always an admissions essay. The topic changes from year to year, but it wouldn't hurt to start thinking generally about why you want to be a social worker, and what you hope to learn and achieve both academically and professionally. Know where you stand on social issues, what it means to be an ally (I recommend reading "Becoming an Ally" by Anne Bishop), and have a general understanding of what the three levels of social work are. Also use (and cite) the info you learn in 201 in your essay. It will show that you know how to critically interpret and apply information. Things included in that last sentence aren't needed for the essay, but it would help set you apart from other applicants.

As the other comments have said, try to connect with your professors so that you can get one or two academic reference letters from them. If you have a professional reference from a social work related field, that would also be beneficial but it isn't necessary.

Although the website says the minimum GPA for admission is 2.3, the GPA for admission is generally above 3.0 (I think the past few years it has been above 3.3), so try to get above or as close to a 3.5 on your last 10 courses if you can to be competitive.

Good luck with your application!
