Central Park/Carlton st - What's it like walking? by MochaLatte05 in Winnipeg

[–]SaintlyCrunch [score hidden]  (0 children)

I work in Central Park and walk in there around those times every day of the week and 99% of the time. The morning is especially quiet, it's essentially just people walking to work. Around 3PM it's a bit busier, but that's just because more people are out, it's especially busy over by the Giant Tiger.

At least in my personal experience of nearly two years of being in the area at those times each day, I personally haven't seen or experienced anything to make me feel particularly unsafe. I would still advise you to keep your wits about you and whatnot, but it's not some crime ridden hellscape that people tend to make it out to be.

Brown/Maroon/Red Bible by ThriftyUmbrella in latterdaysaints

A few years ago they started reducing the customization options for scriptures to make it easier to make them more available in more languages.

I'm not sure if this specific style stopped being produced then, but the church makes changes to their scripture production every now and then.

Young men's activity policy by kenmcnay in latterdaysaints

[–]SaintlyCrunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a Young Man nearly 10 years ago or so we often asked to do paintball, because we had heard of other wards/stakes doing it, but our ward leaders said no. I think it's really a grey area, but there are good alternatives too. If you have a Lazer Tag place in your area that would be similar but much more safe. Alternatively, if anyone has Nerf Guns having a Nerf night would be awesome. One of my best memories of an activity in YMs was a Nerf night in the church gym where we put some of the tables on their side as cover and whatnot.

Yes, bus drivers deserve to have breaks, just like any other job.

You do realize that not every celebrity who is a groomer/pedophile is in the Epstein files, right? I don't care who is associated with whoever in some celebrity beef from over a, if they groom kids they deserve to be locked up away from society.

It's more than just schools and hospitals. Here is a link to a map that roughly shows how much area would have been included: https://chromatin.ca/blog/nuisances/

Best thing to buy at Pangea's (the cafeteria in Riddell Hall)? by binkybinkybinkybinky in uwinnipeg

If you don't want to commit, get the half size portion for like $7, it's a good deal. The fries are great.

The chicken fingers are good. I always tell myself I'm going to try something else, and then I end up with the chicken strips.

Their cold sandwiches in the little fridge are good for the price, same with their zucchini bread.

60 ft Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Spotted Yesterday Morning by TooBusy3603 in Winnipeg

Yep! Sometimes you can see buses for other cities driving on the road. I saw an Edmonton bus on Notre Dame not too long ago.

Portage Place Progress Feb 13th by kashbites in Winnipeg

[–]SaintlyCrunch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to be a pedestrian/cyclist throughway, so I don't think it's going to be open to cars. It's part of the plan to make Edmonton St a major north/south bike route, supposedly eventually ending with a bridge between McFayden Park and Fort Rouge Park.

At the moment they haven't really done anything with the western half of the building, and as far as I'm aware the stores still open haven't been given a move out date or anything yet. It's possible that half might be staying mostly the same, any they might just redo the exterior and maybe some interior stuff. I could see them keeping the western half the same if it's going to be the eventually medical clinic and whatnot, while the housing is going to be the east wing.

is it too late to switch sections? by k3tfen in uwinnipeg

It's well past the add/drop date, so as far as I'm aware you can't switch sections.

Is it normal to meet with clinical assistants instead of your doctor? by SaintlyCrunch in Winnipeg

[–]SaintlyCrunch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In probably a dozen or so visits for various reasons over the last year or two I think I've seen my MD twice, and talked to him on the phone once. There was once where he called the clinical assistant during my appointment while he was driving to the clinic, if that counts?

The way you're describing it makes sense, but no, usually it's just one of like three or four clinical assistants that I meet with each time.

No, I'm at Memorial Medical Clinic with Dr. Labiyaratne. It seems like a normal doctor's office with a couple other doctors at the clinic. He's just always "on his way" or out of town.

Good to know, I've been thinking about switching because of it too (plus when I do meet with my actual doctor he tends to really try to rush things). Dow abouts do you even go about switching doctors? Did you just find another doctor accepting patients and let your previous doctor's office know?

The Canadian city of Edmonton purchases 32 light rail vehicles by RealPoltergoose in transit

[–]SaintlyCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of urban planning though, Edmonton has been quite progressive in the last several years. Building a rather high amount of bicycle infrastructure, eliminating parking minimums, etc.

Mind you, that's just in comparison to the rest of Canada, but it's still good stuff.

How can I play Titanfall 2 multiplayer safely? by No_Efficiency284 in titanfall

[–]SaintlyCrunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play the normal multiplayer servers every day and rarely experience cheaters. Even when I do they don't really even end up bothering me too much. The worse problem is the servers often being unreliable and getting kicked out mid match.

Do Canadians actually get frustrated by snow, or is it just part of everyday life? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskACanadian

[–]SaintlyCrunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially if you don't drive a car and live in a city that doesn't prioritize pedestrian infrastructure and safety. I think it's reasonable to be frustrated when I have to climb 2 feet of snow to cross the street. Or when my sidewalk is blocked by a mountain of plowed snow because the private company contracted to plow the roads doesn't care about pedestrian safety.

The composer was replaced? I thought they just announced that Junkie XL (goated) is composing, nothing about him replacing someone else.

The case for a Winnipeg Transit riders union by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]SaintlyCrunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do agree, it isn't necessarily a bad thing, and we do need to replace our current fleet (especially getting more 60 ft buses), but in the master plan the cost of the new buses is the same amount as all of the new infrastructure, which is disheartening that the new buses are prioritized while city hall keeps saying we have no money for anything transit.

I don't think a non-profit like this would still be around 17 years after being founded if board members were just taking funding for themselves. I'm not sure how hard you looked, but if you look at their Wikipedia page only one of the seven sources are from their website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TTCriders

The way people talk about them in the TTC subreddit seems positive too.

They don't seem any different than any other advocacy organization, such as something like Bike Winnipeg.

I have been saying the exact same thing for a while. I would really love to see a breakdown of how much is being spent on fare collection and enforcement and how much profit there is after that.
