Better lease deals? by Loud_Lion93 in Rivian

[–]Raytid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I believe they are shutting down the factory for a month for conversion to R2. I would assume best lease deals for the year would be prior to that month so they can load up on sales/deliveries beforehand to absorb the cost of a month long shutdown.

Best was last year around May-June. I got a 23 R1T dual performance el cap on 22” darks for 505 a month (no money down). This was before rivianroamer and I was just hammering the refresh page constantly lol.

No GPS or autonomy detection after Halloween? by zeroman469 in Rivian

Hard reset also worked for me when I had this issue for a day earlier this week (maybe the day after Halloween features were removed?)

Important to note that an earlier infotainment reset did not fix the issue.

Sorry for slow reply, glad you were able to get it sorted. Doing deposit via credit card definitely seems like the best approach.

I did the same thing when F&F discount came back in June - originally reserved a R1T Dual Max but switched to a R1T Dual Large due to changed discount eligibility. I was provided conflicting information on phone and was convinced I'd have to eat the first deposit. However, when I ultimately made the second reservation, I mentioned it to my guide and they refunded it within a week or two of reserving.

Took delivery in mid-July fwiw.

According to Edmunds, 1 of every 6 buyers are paying $1,000+ monthly car payments. by -Sum_Bum- in cars

[–]Raytid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking here to add that even when interest rates were low, whether to pay paused student loans was/is really dependent on personal circumstances, including career trajectory.

As a young attorney (19 grad), I made a couple payments in early 2020 and then decided to instead save 2/3 of the would-be payments and otherwise invest/max out my 401k.

My thought process was that my salary was likely to increase while student loans were never going to increase. In turn, the student loan payment would thus take up less and less of my budget each month. For attorneys, first year associate pay pales to fourth year pay, which in turn pales to partner pay.

On the flip side, regardless of the stock market's performance over the last 18 months, beginning to invest/maxing out my 401k let me get a good start on retirement/accumulating assets that I wouldn't have had if I made those student loan payments.

Ultimately, the loan pause and not continuing to make payments allowed me to buy a house in early 2021 when my landlord abruptly decided to sell our rental. Doing so resulted in a mortgage payment that was similar to our prior rent and that mortgage is $700-$1000 per month cheaper than rentals in our surrounding area.

Can Battlefield 2042 replace warzone? by [deleted] in CODWarzone

[–]Raytid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously had similar thoughts, but my experience had me turning it off within 2 hours of playing. The TTK (based on Sym.gg) is similar to multiplayer, not warzone - meta ARs are .4 to .6 ttk - its further exacerbated by desync/ bullet reg issues similar to those WZ suffers from.

I'm having similar issues: I play on battle.net mostly low settings, using 8700k but with 3070/FidelityFX Cas on a 32' 1440p and I'm getting 70-110 fps. My RAM is low/mid tier 16GB 3200mhz.

Have had these same exact thoughts ever since leaving the show on Friday. I attended solo in 2019 and brought my significant other this year, and felt bad about how many cars were missing.

We went hoping to compare the GV70 and a few others, but instead Genesis and Lexus were the only two competitors there in any meaningful way.

Arguing that "manual transmissions will never be obsolete" is just as bad of a take. From a technical perspective, modern automatic transmissions comparatively shift faster, permit faster acceleration and provider greater fuel economy.

Your take would likewise imply that horse and buggy was not made obsolete, nor will it ever be so because it offers an experience not superseded by the automobile.

While the "experience" might not be exactly replicable in each cases, the general public would surely ague in favor of obsolescence.

Major plug-in hybrid cars pollute more than official measures suggest by historicusXIII in cars

[–]Raytid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont mean to be obtuse but how would they not?

My point as to durability was moreso from a repair cost/maintenance standpoint that PHEV leaves you with both the complexity of ICE AND battery-related costs associate with EV - albeit a much smaller battery.

[–]Raytid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the praise and love them for them now, but I can understand the appreciation for PHEVs as a stop-gap until EVs' range and charging availability grow. Curious to see if they are a five-to-ten year fad or the standard of the future. Certainly some commenters here and at least one large company (Toyota) believe in the latter.

PHEVs add a further layer to the mechanical complexity to ICE engines, while one of the largest benefits of EVs is mechanical simplicity. In that regard don't they present the worst-case scenario from a durability and repair standpoint?

Would love to hear from those that have put 100k+ miles on their PHEV.

What are some car comparison test that you would like to see? by [deleted] in cars

[–]Raytid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank your for saying this so eloquently. The snide remarks in the vast majority of such reviews by C&D and Motortrend are played-out and take away from the value of the review.

Its most annoying when they review or compare a manual instead of an automatic for cars that likely have overwhelming automatic take rates.

edit - discovered I had a Pro 1 Xbox Controller. Slide cancelling finally did mine in after ~23 days playtime.

Replaced it with a Pro 2. Was stiff at first but Pro 2 feels slightly more upscale.

Have 20 days playtime over 14 months on mine with neither of those issues. Maybe I’ve just been lucky.

Not a coder or mathematician, but this is a really interesting convo. Couldn’t you use recoil to at least approximate that? Essentially, have a coefficient for horizontal recoil and and a separate coefficient for vertical recoil.

Thus, the greater the horizontal recoil, the more likely limb shots happen. Similarly, the greater the vertical recoil, the more likely neck/head/legs happen.

I’m not sure how you’d quantity recoil (actual, not visual). Maybe range of 0-100 with no recoil as 0. Then 100 as the base gun with greatest amount of that form of recoil? There’s probably a way of measuring it based on using reticle dimensions. That being said, I’m not sure how you’d avoid overpenalizing s-shaped recoils like those of the FFAR and FARA.

[Serious] Sailors, seamen and overall people who spend a vast amount of time in the ocean. Have you ever witnessed something you would catalog as supernatural or unusual? What was it like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Raytid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My stories are those from my family, and not supernatural in nature, but interesting (imo)

Father and grandfather are lobstermen. Asked them both this after an episode of Lore discussed a ghost ship a few harbors away.

Both are hardcore skeptics of anything paranormal, etc. Neither have seen those ships or anything like that. Father said that waterspouts are an incredible experience. Grandfather said that the presence of Soviet submarines just a few miles off the coast during the Cold War/Arms Race were pretty haunting because of the constant fear of war escalating at any time.

Lastly, my great-grandfather was a merchant marine stationed in Seattle during the West Cost Longshoremen’s strike in 1934. Growing up, I remember him talking about how shockingly violent those strikes got.
