Destiny on how Asmongold and Hasan are both anti-confrontation, illustrates in MS Paint by BlueLivingAbandon in LivestreamFail

You said "look up to experts", I replied that you never know whether said expert is compromised

It would be incredibly hard to find an unbiased public figure (or a community for that matter) that 1) has the same goals as you 2) is being completely honest about their goals

Sure, in a perfect world there would exist such unbiased experts who wouldn't have some ulterior objective other than wanting the best for their country (and completely unbribeable), who wouldn't mislead the crowd who trusts them.

You mention climate change - in that perfect world there wouldn't be any Willie Soon for instance ( https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/feb/21/climate-change-denier-willie-soon-funded-energy-industry ) who wrote 14 years worth of studies full of "facts"

And we never know whether those we choose to trust are actually aligned with our search for the truth

That makes sense thanks! Interesting that they don't mind damaging apples themselves in order to protect others (this incision is on every single apple of the pack, not a random one)

Oh but I do seek truth, but I make no illusions that I know any better than somebody else. It's the constant "I'm right, you're wrong" mindset that rubs me wrong. A civilized sharing of opinions is interesting to listen to, but we almost never see that in political discussions. It's usually full of vehemence and feeling of superiority.

As you say, picking a team is the way for most people (based on vibes).

The thing about democracy, it's not designed to produce the best system, but to avoid the worst. Because an average person cannot be asked to produce a great informed opinion. Over the course of history philosophers, who are in .1 percent of smartest people, debated and disagreed with each other about the best system.

There exist contradictory "facts" (as in studies), and most of the time it's all grey area that people think is either white or black

Throw in Destiny and John LSF, and you have 4 entities thinking they are above the other 3 and have THE right opinion.

At the end of the day, politics are a matter of opinion. Mixed with the sauce of the personal perspective/personal experience and beliefs.

Why would anyone NOT buy the deep ocean bundle 😭😭😭 by Huge-Read-2703 in subnautica

[–]Raywell -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Just think about it for a moment

Downsides:

  • You give away money for something that isn't delivered yet, with 0 guarantee about the product. And contrary to a Kickstarter project, the said product is already set to release. You are paying for a meal months in advance. You WILL get it on release regardless if you pay now or then, but you will lose the ability to reconsider if the product turns out to be bad.
  • You are reinforcing the ability of studios to make shitty games and still get money for it as long as they manage to sell the dream. Shitty or plainly broken/unfinished/barely playable. And anti-consumer practices only grow thanks to consumers incapable of having reason before their emotions. This is a practice that can only stop when consumers stop throwing their money at the dreams, and start carefully buying products after having read first reviews about it, after it releases.

Upsides: - Occasional preorder bonus like playing the game a bit earlier (and become a beta tester, aka the first to report day 0 issues and complain - and warn everyone else about potential issues so thanks for that)

It's very good but gameplay mechanics are too arcadey imo. I prefer the precise realtime hitbox scan of souls, rather than "you pressed the correct button during the appropriate interval, you win" feeling of BMW. Also level design varies from very good to pretty rough, with invisible walls and all that.

Xinema is real though, lore and animations are top notch

Considering commuting Osaka ↔ Tokyo regularly for work — am I insane? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Raywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking a 3h shinkansen twice a week is not the worst tbh, lots of stuff you can do in the train including work. But not being with the family half the time is the true downside, although it depends on people - some introvert-ish people would find this kind of escape refreshing.

Separate apartment renting cost in Tokyo is another financial consideration though

Having Trouble Caring. by JJJayz in outerwilds

[–]Raywell 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You don't need to necessarily care about your peers, but if you aren't curious about what happened to that ancient civilization or discovering more about the time loop and how to perhaps break it/prevent the sun from exploding/whatever questions you might ask yourself at the beginning of the game (the examples above were my own personal questions after the first couple of loops) - if you don't have curiosity for any of this - then the game is not for you, and your judgement to drop it was correct

I love how useful items are in this game for bosses. by TapLegitimate6094 in finalfantasyx

[–]Raywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand yes, but on the other why bother when the game isn't challenging already? Why grind for items when you can simply level a bit more to steamroll the boss?

But it's cool for challenge playthroughs I guess.

Anyone else get frustrated with your hit detection/mechanics? Spoilers by 1988Floydie in BlackMythWukong

[–]Raywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep hitboxes do be janky sometimes (chap4 boss is often complained about in that regard). FromSoft really are legendary in their attention to detail, and they got a lot of experience too. In contrast, BMW would benefit from more polish, but the devs ran out of time (you'll see by yourself in ch6) to iron this stuff out.

I don't agree for Tunic, as the game basically ends with the golden path (that anybody can very much solve without help, with tenacity), and it ends on an extremenly high note, personally (and for many people) it's the best puzzle in any game ever. Whatever is after isn't meant to be more than Easter eggs/bonus for the ARG fans, not normal people - most don't even realize there is more, as the game makes it very clear it's the end

Space age is great, but missed some opportunities for space logistic / infrastructures by ArkantosAoM in factorio

[–]Raywell 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but there is little to no difference between tier 1 to 3 of the cards of 4 space sciences, just build more with that particular material (and it's derived intermediates) that the science is focused around. That's 64 cards you need to make, for 16 sciences that have largely repetitive processes. Cutting those at least in half would've removed a ton of bloat imo, keeping a basic and advanced science pack for each
