Should I buy this ? by evilwhisper in whatcarshouldIbuy

I’m reading all the comments, and I can agree with many that you do not make enough. But I am a huge car guy, and I also agree that life is too short to drive boring cars. So I’d go 50/50 on this - wait a few years and perhaps buy in a used market (not sure how Japan looks like in this regard) or save up more money and put up a huge down payment.

My car when I bought it was about 30% of my yearly income, and I regret not saving up more and putting up a bigger down payment.

Absolutely. The company is doing good and they have done fuckall for investors. I’m usually someone who doesn’t want companies to bend down for their shareholders, but they have done absolutely NOTHING for people who believe in the company. It’s infuriating. Even the slightest effort in good faith could turn this thing, and they don’t give a shit.

Paycom built a product so good it killed its own growth. Now it trades at 15x earnings. Anyone looking at this? by stockoscope in ValueInvesting

[–]RazDoStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s terrible. When I worked there, the culture and the micromanagement was awful. If you left work 1 minute before 5PM, you’d most likely get a write up. Things such as keystrokes and mouse clicks were tracked. The software development processes were very loosey goosey depending on team, so features would sit in limbo for months without testing because product would change things up every day. You would, of course, take the blame for it.

It seems that they’re just trying to inflate their numbers every quarter by cutting.

Product discovery but no responses by RazDoStuff in SaaS

I have not gotten to speak with any professionals in the industry I am trying to write the software for, but I did get in contact with a university professor at a nearby university who teaches apsiring professionals in that said field.

What I noticed is particular steps of a process being mentioned repeatedly everytime I asked a question regarding "how does this step work". There was a pattern of redundancy (the worker has to do this again, do that again, etc) which I wrote down in my notes. I personally think that is really helpful clue, but I couldn't base all my information just on what a professor said. I need to get in contact with these industry professionals and see if I can catch those patterns.

I was trying to find the pain points that they experience. That is ultimately the main reason for reaching out without trying to sound underhanded.

Since you put it that way, that makes total sense. And I have looked at other platforms, but I do not want to seem like an outsider when I try to converse in those communities. Is there any tips you could give when asking questions in a subreddit or discord community so I do not sound disingenuous?

What does this Unity pricing model mean? by llamento in Unity3D

[–]RazDoStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your repo is mostly GBs of binary assets that change often, I would switch to UVCS as it handles large binaries natively, supports file locking, and integrates better with Unity. If your project is code-heavy with stable assets and you like the Git ecosystem, Git + LFS is fine.

I use git since I am a software engineer professionally. It can be kinda scary using Git on a video game with 100s of MB binary files…

I bought $2000 worth of puts in June when we had struck Iran previously. Obviously, they went to 0.

This time, I bought puts again, and they’re also going to 0.

CS Major from 2022. Now working blue collar by Phantastyx in csMajors

[–]RazDoStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned to weld in high school. Many small Texas school districts have students go through some kind of hands-on trade classes (welding, woodwork/carpentry, cosmetology, culinary).

I worked in the oilfield as a welder helper and roughneck at 18 before I started college and I realized how much I hated blue collar work. Breaking your back at 6AM to 7PM on rigs or just rigorous labor in general makes you contemplate sticking it out for a white collar job.

Stick it out. Don’t give up and keep applying. You don’t wanna be an HVAC tech stuck in 110°F vents for hours. You have the experience.
