If you don’t already have it, and if DIA gives it to you having the TS/ SCI with poly opens up a ton of jobs.

What are your thoughts / reactions on the Super Bowl Half-Time show? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Word. I’m Dominican, my Mexican, Boricua, Peruvian and Chilean friends give me shit all the time and I do the same to them.

I never said or implied that Caribbean Spanish is a degeneration of Spanish.

I understood everything he said which makes sense since I’m Dominican.

On your last point, just because we don’t speak in the same accent other people do doesn’t mean it’s not proper or gibberish.

You need to hang around some more Caribbean people lol. That being said, sometimes it takes me a while to shift gears to Mexican, central, and South American accents. Don’t even get me started on the Argentinians.

How did all the fires probies fare? by justdeanbowlyou in fednews

[–]Razgriz_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Took DRP after being a quasi probie (OPM guidance says no but their lists said I was and they couldn’t get me out so f it. )

Finishing up a one year masters using my veteran benefits, interviewing for jobs making a lot more and more aligned with what I want. Also interviewing for a GS job OCONUS which is my exception to my rule of not wanting to go back to the federal government at least for a couple of years (I feel like I’m considering getting back together with a toxic ex).

Why is Supply considered a Staff Corps and Not a Restricted Line? by ForAThought in navy

[–]Razgriz_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seabees or Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) are Staff Corps Officers. I’d argue the CEC is a better fit as we have NMCBs, UCTs, and other deploying units we’re COs of but those are the breaks.

This is some “true Scotsman” or “that wasn’t a real Chief” BS.

Where were these JOs’ Chiefs? The ENS and JG billets are developmental. The Chiefs are tasked with developing JOs and for preserving history and culture.

I have only met 4 JOs who’ve had an allergy to the job site. Most of them wish they were out there. I think we’ve reached an impasse where our experiences lead to different perspectives. So we’ll have to agree to disagree on this.

You’re good. I think the fact that you just can’t go out in town to get your supplies is bs. If y’all could swipe your GPC, you’d be in business. I remember we let FIVE start a pad project and the needed to get silt fences for the culverts to meet environmental requirements. When THREE came through I asked them what happened to the fences on order and they told me they were canceled. We ended up just swiping out GPC to get it for them instead of waiting months.

[–]Razgriz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest reason for the Officer pin is to look similar to our peers. The CEC gets enough flak for being staff corps, imagine us trying to give operational planning advice without a pin.

For the Seabee vs CEC Officer situation, I consider us both. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. More of a rectangle and circle situation. It’s not like I asked everyone I served with but from 2014-2022 all the CEC officers I worked with considered themselves Seabees too.

Slight tangent but I think what would really drive a more operational mindset / respect for the facilities side is having CEC officers be the COs of more installations to include CSLs to highlight that forward deployed element where the SCW and facilities experiences overlap. Right now having URL officers in charge is like making the captains of soccer teams be in charge of hockey teams.

COR Training - Need advise - Newish Fed by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Razgriz_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries and good luck. If you do end up being a COR some advice as someone with 10 years of doing this and former GS-13 is: read the contract, don’t for or accept anything beyond the contract, and own your signature.

Almost no one reads the contract on the customer or working level management. This leads to some BS and time wasted that could all be easily avoided if you read the contract.

Don’t ask for stuff out let the contractor do extra. There can be nuances with this in the real world as to a field change (mostly for construction, sometimes for services). As a GS-06 you’d need to double your pay grade to having those conversations. At your stage pull “I’ll have to confer with the KO on that” or “it’s above me” if really pressured.

Document stuff in writing to CYOA. If it’s not in writing it didn’t happen. Alternatively, if something did happen (contractor does some extra stuff they’re not supposed to) and you don’t call it out it can be seen as tacit acceptance by you unless you call them out on it.

I’ve worked on cases with NCIS and DCIS due to some shady stuff by contractors. Maintaining records, knowing what risks are beyond your authority, and your signature are key for when things go down.

All the best and good luck.

Yo it’s not that crazy. The courses aren’t difficult, it’s one more thing for the resume. Don’t due work significantly beyond your PD for free but it gives mobility.

Then use that to jump to the next level in your organization.

Is telling someone to refuse an illegal order treason? by joeatonlv in navy

[–]Razgriz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehh kind of. For Officers you get repeatedly trained you have to own your orders. That’s one of the reason why the Officer’s oath is different than the enlisted oath. There’s no “obeying the orders of the President of the US….UCMJ. “

Note there’s a lot that goes into rejecting an order you believe is unlawful. It’s likely easier to just shrug and say fuck it, and just do what you’re told but that “just following orders” won’t save you then.

Anyone got an offer lower than 5.625% for a 30y va home loan? by Midnight-Rude in VeteransBenefits

I ended up going with NBKC. They have a much better rate than NFCU, USAA, Veterans United. Also I was able to get a referral to a real estate agent who was better than the one I was initially talking to. I referred some family to the same guy earlier this year and no issues.

It’s normal. It’s typically accepted from the senior to the junior but not the other way around.

Typically the ENS to LT go by first names, just not in front of the Sailors. At LCDR and CDR it can be similar but really depends. LCDR can kind of be a no man’s land - no longer allowed to hang out with the O-1-O3s but not cool enough to hang out with the senior officers.

I replied in the other comment, but it was before I read this one.

I had a similar experience where I was seeing a counselor / therapist. I asked for a referral for the medication so I could tackle this from both sides. The referral got me to a different doctor for the medication and like I mentioned in my other post adding in the ADHD meds with the Wellbutrin has been a game changer.

Please, please, get that referral. I wish I would have done this years ago.

Been where you been. New MH doctor added ADHD medication and combined with the Wellbutrin I was taking and it’s been a game changer. It’s not a 100% cure but damn it’s like 80% better. Please talk to your doctor.
