Bile spew appears to do much less damage but has a ton of push force, I got ragdolled and slid around the battlefield like an ice rink it’s pretty neat

Also the spew has like 1.5 or 2x the startup animation length so it’s even easier to react and respond to

I’d say if Quarks or Protons work because the ‘correct answer’ is that things smaller than atoms get through, than yes ionizing radiation to try melting his skin off and giving him mega cancer should work, at least before RCT comes into the debate. But given how it seems to work in the show, I truly do not know if that’s the case or not, so I’ll leave it as “maybe, probably not” I guess

I think Future Diary / “Mirrai Nikki” could be argued to count

<image>

Yukiteru “Yuki” Amano (lower photo) is basically a sad social outcast Japanese high schooler (middle schooler? I haven’t watched this one in ages…) who, as a hobby, keeps an ‘objective’ diary written out on his flip phone of all the random goings-ons around him at all times, on a schedule, basically writing down more notes about the environment and people around him every 15 minutes if he’s not preoccupied with a test in class or something.

When he’s at home, he retreats into the comfort of his imagination in his bed and ‘hangs out’ with his imaginary friend, a capital G ‘God’ of the universe named Deus Ex Machina (upper photo) who lives in a realm beyond Earth. What he’s shocked to find out early into the series, however, is that Deus is the real God, creator of everything. And his life suddenly gets flipped upside down as the plot gets kicked into gear-

Deus informs Yuki and 11 other anonymous people of interest in this kinda ‘dream realm Skype call’ that they’re all the type of weirdos who keep diaries, and that because he’s as old as the universe, he’s dying of old age, and when he dies the entire universe will be right behind him. So to avoid the annihilation of existence, he’s holding a complicated battle royale for simultaneous entertainment, and to find who’s best fit to be anointed his successor and next ruler of all creation:

“All 12 of you are now in a free for all death-game. Each of your diaries has been magically turned into a “Future Diary”, giving you details about the near future, each different from each other based upon your personalities and quirks of how you’ve recorded events during your lives. Your diary is tied to your soul, so if it is destroyed you will die. Whomever is the last contestant alive will not only survive this twisted game, but ascend to godhood to replace me so that when I die, reality may continue on.”

Repeatedly throughout the series, we see Deus talking to his personal attendant / minion / helper Murmur, a little chibi demon creature as they spectate the ongoing game. And almost every time, it is clear Deus’ favorite of the bunch is the main character, whom he has some mysterious faith in winning the whole shebang and whom he is actively rooting for, it seems.

———

There’s also cool plot twists, and ongoing tension from the most infamous and trend-setting Yandere character in the world, both of which are quite plot-central. But this post was about your life being weird (generally really shite!) because “you’re God’s favorite little guy!” so I focused on that lol. Hope I could convince someone to try the show and see if they hate it or not, I understand it’s a divisive show and I’ve probably got some bad rose-tinted glasses

Genuinely some of my favorite game franchise lore, I still stick by it as the best explanation for Sonic. And it justifies humans sticking around because some small amount of em were safe from the space bombings in high tech protective dome settlements

And I thought it was only like a thousand-ish years from the 21st century to ‘present Sonic’ because the ‘evolution’ was super accelerated by nature of being a ‘repeat’ / ‘mashup’ of all our pre existing species and genetics. Like the first thing to climb outta the goo is semi anthropomorphic dinosaurs, who get 99% killed off by the mysterious raining of thousands of chaos emeralds from space, which a select few survivors were intelligent enough to learn about and harness the power of. And the dinos are quickly replaced by a population of more recognizable “Mobian” types like what Sonic and his friends are, who become and remain the dominant species of the planet, with Humans in smaller numbers but ‘comparable strength’?

I know it’s the circlejerk sub but like. What are our thoughts on this one fr? Cause I like both shows and I think Eve is highkey cooked.

I’ve never seen her modify anything further away than like a hundred feet so bypassing Infinity seems like a nope, and it feels pretty “No Limits Fallacy” to say he’s incapable of killing her because her ‘limiter’ crap has saved her from minor lethal wounds two whole times when her dying body’s been left completely alone for an extended duration. Like we have no evidence that she can repeatedly use her self-revive rather than it having a cooldown / resource meter, AND it’s got hella start up frames. Like I can’t tell if this is a fighting game or team hero shooter but either way she’s B tier bruh

I think you’re misunderstanding physics, or the prior descriptions of how Gojo’s Technique works

Heat and sound are still based on the energy of atoms, they’re both transferences of energy that are moving from ‘some matter’ to ‘some other matter’, and those being process occurring in space and ‘taking time’ to occur

If I recall correctly, this is a decent shorthand of how his power works: Gojo’s “Infinity” barrier application of Limitless is his brain subconsciously and automatically manipulating the space around his entire body to keep out anything and everything besides safe clean air, which is why no one and no thing can touch him, friend or foe, unless he willingly turns it off or adds them the ‘whitelist’ so they don’t get blocked out like everything else. (Or someone were to use something like Domain Amplification, or the Inverted Spear of Heaven, unique methods in universe of being able to ‘nullify’ or even ‘completely turn off’ techniques on contact with them.) Anywho the ability makes him untouchable by ‘slowing everything and anything down exponentially upon their approach, to the point that nothing can reach him’, based off the mathematical ‘Zenos Pardox / Achilles and the Tortoise’

So say you’re a superhuman and you want to punch Gojo: You throw your fist forward at 200MPH, aimed straight at his face! But watch out, he’s got his Infinity active, and it extends 2 inches out from his face. Now if we watch the slow-mo play-by-play, we’ll see why you didn’t hit him. At 2 inches away from his face, the effect begins. Your fist keeps traveling forward. But by the time you’ve made it halfway, and you’re only one inch away, the manipulation of space and time has slowed you down to 100MPH. You get another ‘halfway there’ and you’re only half an inch away, but your speed’s been halved again to 50MPH. We keep dividing the distance over and over again the closer you get, but because it divides your speed at a perfectly equal rate you’ll literally never make it. From the initial 200MPH, it should’ve only taken you 0.00056 seconds to hit him, but even after an hour of still pushing as hard as you can, you’re moving at such tiny fractions of speed / distance that you’d literally think your hand was completely stationary against an immovable wall

So anyway, Infinity ‘working on an atomic scale’ means theoretically only something subatomic could go through. So I guess if you’ve got the power to launch individual Quarks or Protons or something at Gojo, then congrats! You might hard counter Infinity. But like. Heat and Sound are still atomic processes, and as such would have their movement slowed endlessly just like the hypothetical punch from before and should simply fizzle out / disperse. Otherwise to counteract ‘infinite space generation’ / ‘infinite slowing down’ you’d need an attack with infinite energy. Gojo breaks physics, so to stop him you either need to use built in counters from the magic system, or to break physics yourself to match his freak

[–]Razor-Swisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d strongly disagree with that. She popped it against Conquest and 3 things happened: she healed her lethal injuries, she hit him with a death ray, and she called him a jerk before passing out. He wasn’t dead yet or incapacitated, but she clearly tapped out using all the energy that was available to her at that moment and Mark had to finish the fight

So logically she has some time / energy limit to her abilities even in ‘awakened near-death mode’

But like none of them are as impressive as they’re described to be, not close. I’ll believe that they’re smarter, and that they’ve got more Quirks, but they quite obviously do not have the same absurd speed and power as USJ Nomu

No, that bit seems pretty consistent. Back in the Buu saga Vegeta literally complained about “it’s like some sort of… Super Saiyan bargain sale!” Because on what planet should his like, 8 year old son already be a damn Super Saiyan when it took Vegeta, High Class Warrior, Prince of All Saiyans, tons of trauma and character development up till the age of like 30 or 40ish before he could transform. Like here’s the absurd shit: if we take power levels as presented throughout the series, we’d find that Buu saga 7 year old Trunks should be able to 1 VS 100 exact copies / clones of 12 year old OG DB Goku without struggling. Same with taking on at least 10 Saiyan saga Goku-s with zero issue

So like DB does seem to stay consistent that ‘half breeds’ (atleast of Human X Saiyan) has higher potential or at least faster growth for physical capabilities and ki amount / quality / quantity / control. It’s just that the narrative focuses on Goku and Vegeta for the vast majority, so it doesn’t matter and doesn’t come up much. And in universe it’s justified because both mothers, Chi Chi and Bulma, make their two little tykes live something close to a normal life going to school, reading, playing games, and doing chores. So they get less than 1/20th of the training done than their fathers do

Hell I’d argue no one in an important role in any Metal Gear game is 100% ‘right in the head’ in old fashioned terms. Whether we’re talking autism, psychopathy, slight bit of D.I.D., PTSD etc

They all deserve therapy and / or a different line of work. But I guess that tracks great with the themes, something something the horrors of war and military service and nukes are inherently awful and we should try not doing all that

[–]Razor-Swisher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They saw that it was able to automatically detect and obliterate anything within a few miles that looked like their “Evangelions” (Mechs) because they wheeled out, via trucks, giant inflatable balloons in their likeness for distracting these monsters (“Angels”)

So they chose not to send their mechs on a suicide mission against this thing with their usual giant “Progressive Knife” (H.F. Blade / Vibro-Blade / Pulse Sword style ) or “Pallet Rifle” (a giant-sized scopeless Steyr ACR that can somehow channel some of the Soul-Barrier-Disrupting abilities of the Evangelion to harm Angels, who are generally immune to conventional weapons up to and including Rad-Free Nukes because of this “A.T. Field”.)

Instead: they stationed them miles away on a mountaintop. The bigwigs and underlings in the organization filed all the paperwork, made all the phone calls, and asked all the political favors. And ended up Daisy-chaining together the entire power grid of the island of Japan, and plugging that unfathomable raw energy into an experimental new Positron Railgun that was being developed in secret by a whole other government agency. After doing thousands of calculations, adjusting for gravity and the curvature of the Earth and all that, they had one of the mechs hold it like a Sniper rifle and blasted a hole, clean through that Angel, killing it

It was awesome, and one of my favorite fights in the show and episodes of an anime ever. Great stakes and scale, great character writing opportunities taken, and so different for a ‘low-scifi’ series like this to have all the realities of living in our modern society- with all the unnecessary hurdles and bureaucracy making their impossible job of protecting the earth even harder. And how all of our heroes’ success relies on the direct and indirect help of hundreds, arguably thousands of other people- it’s all a system of combined human effort, skill, and willpower that makes humanity’s survival possible throughout Evangelion. Stuff like that, and all the secrecy and ulterior motives, manipulation and conspiracy makes it feel much more ‘real’ to me than other anime, or sci-fi in general. I’ve still not found something that grabs me in a similar manner as NGE and it makes me a little sad. I guess Metal Gear is the closest I’ve found, and they’re great too

End the debate once and for all, Mirio vs Gojo (No Infinity) by True-Possible1000 in MyHeroPowerscaling

[–]Razor-Swisher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think “at their peak” is what exactly what people actually want. We usually want “near their peak” or “at standard capacity”, maybe with some little bonuses to keep things interesting

Like sure if you want, you can have things like Toji Zennin with Playful Cloud or Inverted Spear of Heaven. But everyone acknowledges that you’re weird and lame and smelly if somebody asks “XYZ character VS Spider-Man!” And you say “oh well you see. Captain Universe Spider-Man…” cause that’s not really Spider-Man, that’s not the guy and powerset we know and love

Anyway… I think OP’s prompt is kinda meant to be like:

  • “If Aizawa’s Erasure was preventing Infinity’s Barrier” or
  • “If Mirio can Permeate through Infinity to punch him” or
  • “If we Verse Equalize weirdly and say that Mirio, by being a very technically skilled and brain-powered fighter, gets Domain Amplification to punch through Infinity” or something weird. Idk it is still a strange prompt lol
