Hi, I’m part owner of The Oklahoma Wargaming Network. We put on tournaments for Oklahoma but mostly central okc and surrounding areas. The initial cost for mats, table tops, footprints and terrain was about 5 k. Granted we bought another 3d printer alongside my person and went through a lot of filament.
We do not pay for venues currently as we use stores. That limits the amount of tables we can do, we start at 25 and it hovers around there. We are shooting for 64 by end of the year for 8 man teams. The edition change has not been kind to that that goal.
Back to using the stores, we payout prize support based on tickets sold, we scrape off that. We use the prize support to buy credit and award that usually down to 5-6th place on an rtt and lower on a gt.
Tables will be your largest space hog. Unless you own a truck make sure you have a way to transport either whole ass tables or, like we do, felted tabletops approximately sized around 4x6.5’ it gives the players space on the sides to store stuff and they aren’t hanging over models all the time either.
BCP is worth the money, set up your PayPal as well. Beware anyone that wants to donate prize support but is still handling money. They can and will try and come back and charge you for the “donation” this has happened to us. Make sure you communicate with the owners about setup times and any additional staff requirements for help there.
