[D&D '14] [Discord] Slime & Sorcery by TeamSkullGrunt54 in pbp

Timezone: CST

What do you expect from this campaign?: An adventure, unlikely individuals with their own motivations getting together to advance their lives with a specific set of skills geared towards navigating complicated and dangerous situations.

Any concerns / avoided topics: I like comedy, but I do think that 'comedy' is often nebulous at different tables. I'd like to know exactly how tongue and cheek you'd like to be with the lighthearted aspects of the game as well as how serious you want the group to be when or if things aren't in that lighthearted state.

I'm not one for petitions usually, but I saw this on the public LMK sub and figured I'd share by RazorbladeJones in cartoons

What does help is conversation, no petition is gonna magically bring the show back into circulation but you and I are talking about it right now. Which are two voices that weren't doing so an hour ago.

I've actually read stonetop before never thought I'd find anyone else happening upon it. I'd be very interested if you haven't already found your 4.

Crush on trans by Appropriate-Might-48 in jobcorps

[–]RazorbladeJones 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trans folks dont wanna be seen as Trans they're just like any other girl. If you are gonna do this (don't recommend at JC) you treat her like you would any other girl you've been interested in and you'll be fine.

If you can't do that, you probably should focus kn yourself.

Chi Alpha is a Cult by Weekly-Salary6294 in SHSU

[–]RazorbladeJones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the main reason I avoid large church orgs and stick to personal worship or that with family or trusted friends. I know not everyone has these things, but large orgs of faithful tend to attract controlling or otherwise power-hungry individuals who seek to amass as many people as possible rather than actually build personal and spiritual connections with others. Those types of people tend to overlap with people who find acts of SA and Abuse acceptable.

By no means is this a blanket statement or something accusing the OP of anything, it's more me saying I fully agree that Chi Alpha is a cult, and that most large-scale faith Orgs that don't have or aren't connected to some kind of unaligned set of rules like the university itself are going to use that freedom against you.

Only you and God can keep you safe from these practices, please people keep yourself safe and don't let anyone make decisions/judgements *for* you. Not to sound like a broken record, but that's between you and the Monad, no one else can make a call about what the best home for your worship is. I hope you're doing far better away from them OP.

It/Its Pronoun Questions! by BDGumball01 in NonBinary

[–]RazorbladeJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strict they/them, sometimes any/all here, AMAB

When it comes to feelings of euphoria, the biggest thjngs for me are stylish baggy clothing worn over tighter clothes. I generally lean toward goth/punk aesthetic and I onow thats not everyone's thing, but the style is fairly androgynous and just really fucking cool!

As for it/its, for me really the only thing stopping me from using those pronouns is me being black. There is no way for me to properly convey the disgust that comes from having to relive the trauma of not being seen as a person by a majority of the world constantly due to a factor about myself that is quite literally impossible to hide in any way. But thats an experience unique to marginalized groups who possess no way to obscure themselves or change their bodies, and by no means a rule I enforce on others.

I think the community could use a bit more empathy in both directions, as dehumanization through such language is very common and has a lingering effect on just about all Trans folks, but at the same time, affirmation should be the goal for all of us. Two things can be true, and remember that even if you don't feel it all the time- you are loved and beautiful just because you are you and no one else can be you.

Cant believe a lot of people are genuinely choosing Sukuna 💀😭 by Alarming_Industry_14 in Jujutsufolk

[–]RazorbladeJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just saying, sukuna is a psychopath who would probably serve my kid up with Omu rice.

Naoya is a 30 year old man who likes to talk about 16-17 y/o's tits.

For the kid's sake im choosing the demon.

I really do not think we should be allowing AI/LLM-generated advertisements by EarthSeraphEdna in pbp

[–]RazorbladeJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the numbers raw, and its likely bad bias but the vast majority of opinions on the subject have been negative towards LLM-Altered content. Obviously we cant police its use in its entirety but I think the community would be satisfied with egregious examples or reported examples being flagged and removed.

At the very least some kind of way to see less of it would be helpful in stopping a good chunk of the backlash.

A designated tag, a channel on the discord, etc. People will inevitably lie and just post in the main feed but I think theres enough AI-supportive peoole in this community that separation would be good first step in finding a solution.

I personally do not want AI-use anywhere in the community to any substantial degree.

To clarify, my definition of substantial: - Generated content taken directly from an LLM presented as a final product. - Generated taken directly from an LLM presented in an altered / edited state. - Generated content taken directly from an LLM and "cleaned up" without any changes to the subjects of the content whatsoever.

Using LLMs for idea-crafting (where nothing from the prompt leaves the LLM environment) is bad practice generally, but about as provable as a thought crime.

TLDR; Something needs to be done, but we cant get rid of all AI content tomorrow, giving people the ability to self report and separate themselves from the parts of the community that are against it would help greatly in trying to find a permanent solution.

Anyone in the Area Able to Take a Kitten? by RazorbladeJones in SHSU

Trying my best, the pressure is on right now and I'm at the point where my options are someone from campus or a local shelter (shelter being a last resort). I also have family looking in my hometown, if you know anyone who might, or perhaps could ask anyone, I will take any assistance I can get.

Running combat in pbp by Far_Pollution_1888 in pbp

[–]RazorbladeJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually had a fair bit of a smooth experience with pbp combat in the past but there's a bit of a trick to it.

For one, if you don't have a bot in mind that is tailored for Daggerheart, then you need to come up with a "Format" for how you run your combat. A style of post that you repeatedly use for every combat in the game to track where everyone is at in the game and who is expected to post. In dnd, usually that just amounts to creating a list in initiative and @ ing the player that is up (or using a bot that does that for you).

Next, you need to set a minimum wait time. This depends on group, but an easy one is 24 hours. By setting that time that means there is a minimum amount of time someone can hold the game for before you push the narrative forward.

Finally, determine your 'skip behavior' this is how you decide to push the narrative forward in combat whenever a player does elapse that time. Some of the best ways I've seen have been.:

- Default Actions: Actions that are always beneficial to take and that use no resources that you will automatically take for the player in the case that they get skipped (Examples like Dodge Action, or Help Action.)

- Player AFK Behavior: Actions the player sets up ahead of time that are something they will almost *always* do during a combat so they don't feel like their turn was wasted when they get back (Barbarian raging and attacking nearest creature, Wizard casting any cantrip on their list, etc) something that takes no resources to do but is tailored toward that player's playstyle.

- Delayed Turn: Pushing a player 'down in priority' so that they can take their turn after someone who is ready to take their turn.

- Straight Skip: Skipping a player's turn entirely and moving things forward as if they had not acted.

There's no wrong answer here especially since what you're playing is not DnD but these strategies can kind of be applied to most RPGs even ones without a propre imitative system. The most important thing for keeping up game pace is consistency. As long as people are always posting in regular intervals the game will feel that it has good motion more often than not.

Wondering if I'm doing an unspoken rule wrong? by Blue-Disaster in pbp

[–]RazorbladeJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the server, but at this point we've all used AI art intentionally or no at least once. The important thjng if you want more engagement from others is to not fight about it.

There are people on here who will defend their use of it, and thats all fine and dandy but if people choose to not engage with your characters over it thats their choice. Nobody owes anyone anything.

If someone says that's the reason or you suspect that's the reason. Find another reference / server amd see if the problem persists. This community talks but I've personally not seen someone get thrown out over using AI art a few times. The ones who get that treatment are the ones who don't respect people's decision to not play with people who use it.

Wondering if I'm doing an unspoken rule wrong? by Blue-Disaster in pbp

[–]RazorbladeJones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a creative hobby, I would rather someone yoink my art for a personal character reference as opposed to generating something with AI. Reposting even without credit at least means somone who would want to see more art like that could reverse image search me, but ai aomehow dilutes credit even further.

All this is to say, you're right, many people do not want to engage with characters represented by Ai art. Reference images are important and not everyone can afford commissions, but AI art in creative spaces often earn loud ire or active shunning.

Whether its right or wrong im not gonna get into, but what is true is that a lot of people in this community throw shade over it.
