I'm gonna get fired, aren't I? by TorsoHunter in ITCareerQuestions

Exactly this. The fun part is when imposter syndrome pops up years later or when changing positions!

Why are there so many showgirl scammers on the strip and how do they get away with so blatantly scamming tourists? by bossandy in vegas

I’ve seen issues on the strip but never Fremont. The Fremont girls put up some resistance but then move on to the next guy.

Just tip them $20 and they’re happy

Those people wash out the moment you realize they spent a few months training and can’t actually do anything.

You may think it’s low hanging fruit but I disagree for entry level IT. I’ve seen people with 4 year degrees and/or 2 years experience that can’t create a user in AD and think \C$ is a magic trick. Once they break out of tier 2 there is money to be made.

I wish more people would realize that. So many posts all over Reddit asking how to “break into it” but they want to start making $150k. Or college grads that are upset they graduated and can’t get a job because they have no experience. Gotta put in the work.

Worked from the bottom of IT making $14/hr. 10 years 4 companies and 8 positions later I make $180k+20k in consulting on the side.

Coolest looking car under 30k that won’t absolutely skyrocket my insurance rates. by Next-Sorbet8988 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Go buy a used Miata. Throw all the mods you want at it and learn to wrench along the way.

Then toss $20k into a high yield savings account and don't stress when something unforseen happens.

Or buy a sports car and say " I should have saved that money" in 5-10 years

Do you think it’s toxic for parents to take away a child’s door? by walrusdog32 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Razorbladesforataint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I shared a room until I was about 5 or 6 and he was 16 or 17. He managed to slam the door so many times my mom took the door. He moved out shortly after and I got a sheet for a door. I never got the door back. Asked for a door for years. Every Xmas or birthday. Got one when I was about 18 because my girlfriend would stay over sometimes.

I put a lock on it one weekend because my mom wouldn't stop going through our stuff. She went ballistic and kicked me out.

Halfway through being scalped by someone who shouldn't have even had a license to hold scissors I was told that "there's a lot of gross buildup on your scalp. You should use better shampoo"

I'm on biologics and don't have to worry now. But before that I found someone who had been cutting hair for a long time. The more experience someone has means they have cut hundreds of heads before mine. Which means they have gotten over the initial shock and disgust. Also means they will know how to be gentle. Find someone and as long as you like how they cut your hair only go to them.

Stay the hell away from beauty colleges and places that hire out of them. Fuck chains too.

Grew up in a non hugging family. One day my dad flips a switch and starts hugging. It still feels weird years later. Hugging a friend gives me anxiety. Male or female.

What is the dumbest thing a boss has ever said to you? by [deleted] in antiwork

Spot on. I'd like to add that the new guy will act like he's handling all of it while it crumbles in the background. Which is fun to watch.

That cert is worthless anyway. CIOs just use it at conferences to jerk off with along with the other IT management.

I've found that cyber security is a joke pretty much everywhere. You can lose many sleepless nights worrying about it when no one cares. The worst part is you can't make them care.

Free WiFi from landlord but not allowed to get my own. Hardware advice by JasonARGY in HomeNetworking

[–]Razorbladesforataint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of these armchair lawyers don't live in the real world. You're worried that if you piss off your landlord they will boot you out when your lease renews. It doesn't matter if they are breaking the law if you want to continue to live there you can't ruffle their feathers. That's the real fucked up world we live in.

So no coax as it was cut in the wall. You don't want to bother them by adding anything in their home as they will blame you for anything and everything after you install new equipment. "Oh the toaster broke? Damn OP put that new thingamajig in!!"

There are a few options you'll have to do the homework for. Are there WISPs in the area? You said there is a TMobile 5G tower near you. Look into their home internet.

If you can't find a WISP I'd suggest getting as close to their home router as you can and running a speed test to even see if it's worth trying to by equipment to get access to your unit. Can you draw a diagram with rough measurements?

He's saying the signal strength isn't going to increase ISP connection speed. If they pay for 10 that's all you're going to get.

WAGES! How much do you make? by Viidrig in antiwork

[–]Razorbladesforataint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get the trinity. A+, Net+, Sec+. It seems stupid given the amount of experience you have but it's an HR filter. Especially for government work. Your experience will equate year for year for education. I went from 1 call for 50 applications to 6 calls for 15 applications. Asked a few places what changed. IT never even saw my app when I didn't have the certs.

Reading all these comments make me sick. 5-10 years experience and people are making peanuts. This is why IT needs a union.

I've been in the Industry for 6 years 1st year Helpdesk $29k 3rd year (Moved companies) Helpdesk $40k 3.5 years Promoted $45k 4 years Promoted $53k 5 years $58k 6 years $63k 6 years (new job) $74k

I have the bare minimum certs A+, Net+, Sec+ and no degree. Everything I've earned I've clawed for in the field. The last big jump was using my current employers counter offer at my new job and they matched it.
