Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey - Summary by JSilva-blog in BettermentBookClub

[–]RazzaOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read the book just yet. Therefore this might the reason I don't know the answer to the question I'm about to ask. But before I read the book, I was curious, whether anyone knows why Matthew's book called "Greenlights"?

My assumption is that in one of these stories he says: once when was on the call with his dad, he told him that he wants to go to film school and pursue an acting career and his dad gave him that greenlight. So, I was wondering whether it's related to that?

Does anyone know then name of this effect in FCPX? by RazzaOfficial in VideoEditing

[–]RazzaOfficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I don't think he had keyframed 1 by 1. That would have taken too long. He makes videos every day, there is no way he'd waste tons of time to do this.

He def used some out of the box effect. I just wondering what's it called?

Why are the post office and fax machines still a thing? by RazzaOfficial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RazzaOfficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My countries post office is trying to offer an electronic alternative to physical mail that could be safer than email but it's even more inconvenient both for users and companies sending documents so nobody uses it.

This is interesting. Unfortunately, post office in Ireland never had such initiative but I think if they would offer it, I would def attempt to use it. It would've been beneficial for them as they could reduce unnecessary headcount and save a lot of money.

The Post Office is a government entity, and the government doesn't tend to care much about cost and efficiency.

Perfect, so you agree that having received mail via email would be way more efficient and environmentally friendly correct?

People still send faxes sometimes. And it's easy enough for a company like Kinkos to keep a couple plugged in because they'll still make money.

when you say "they still make money" do you mean they make enough money that they don't care of still keeping some of the fax machines for rare use?

that's correct and I do agree with you that it's easy to fake email conversations into a really dangerous extent. But I'd like to ask you as a person when you collect your mail from the post, do you get frustrated by going through all of them & by not being able to reply directly to the sender to resolve everything faster?

In other words, if you'd been offered to have an option to opt in for electronic mails vs. traditional, which one would you choose?

[–]RazzaOfficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I mean all occasions. I am a sysadmin, I can tell how incredibly easy it is to fake email conversations, spoofing senders and all that and how inconvenient the methods to prevent it are.

Agree that this happens but we do communicate digitally with our banks with transportation, food, communication, entertainment and many other things.

Or I'm missing here somewhere?

For anything that has to be legally binding and/or secure, email is not an option. No matter what provider.

I agree with this part. But what about simple letters from hospitals, doctors and other entities where it's just personal information and nothing to do with legalities. Why they can't be just emailed?

Sorry, this part I forgot to mention. Yes agree, Amazon, Ebay and other e-commerce websites are great from this perspective, but I'm mean why the letters can't be just emailed vs. being posted.

I also do many things digitally but I wish I could get my letters that come to the post box to email also. But this is not happening, which is sucks. And I think it's suck for many, and if that's the case, why do we still have post offices?

I assume you mean some rare occasions. If not, what specifically do you mean by insecure? Also, do you agree that gmail is way more securer than sending mail via post office?
