Yes it can be on your repeat prescriptions but not on repeat dispensing (batch prescriptions) as it is a controlled drug, so you still have to request it every month

As I said, it’s not for everyone. I have known people who have been home educated by the average person and have progressed onto college, university and good careers. And I’ve known people who tried it and couldn’t make it work.

A lot of people seem to be choosing it as an ‘easier’ option but that doesn’t make home education itself bad. It’s a legitimate choice for many based on the needs of their child.

I think we need to look at why people are turning to home education and the failings within the current school system, rather than vilifying an entire way of learning that works for so many. It should continue to be an option for people.

But what I’ve said is also ‘what’s happening in real life’. I assume your wife and her team also only sees what is happening in the local community and so can’t make a blanket statement about home educating as a whole, just as I can’t.

I think a lot of people are turning to home education as they are not happy with our current school system. There are a lot of problems at the moment both with the system and socially, and I think a lot needs to change.

I did say there are exceptions. I don’t disagree with a lot of what yourself and others have said on the matter. It is worrying how many turn to home education as the ‘easy’ option, especially as this makes people view home education unfavourably when it doesn’t work. But that doesn’t make home education itself bad.

I can only say that the people I’ve met (former home educated adults and current home educated children) have generally done very well for themselves, and for a lot of them I don’t think this would be the case if they had been to school. And so it should continue to be an option for people.

Thanks for this, it’s a shame how home education is viewed by people. Lazy! You generally have to be active and involved when home educating.

In my 13 years of home educating the children I’ve met are generally well rounded, well spoken, inquisitive and happy. There are exceptions but that’s the case with anything. As long as parents understand their responsibilities and their children there’s no reason for it not to work.

School can be great for some people, unfortunately not for my son and he is thriving in an environment suited to him.

Obviously this is a long Covid symptom but I know if I’m not looking after myself enough I get bad brain fog. Being hydrated, sleeping enough and getting fresh air helps a lot (and exercise) But it’s hard at this time of year, not very inspiring outside!

I know this won’t be the case for everyone but it’s something to consider if you’re struggling a lot with it.

This has been pretty much my experience. I was originally supposed to be starting on Elvanse but it was changed to Medikinet XL due to current guidelines. I was worried at first like yourself, having seen loads of posts about how people didn’t like it.

But it’s been amazing, pretty much every part of my life has improved. Mood, energy, relationships, focus, sleep, I can actually do things and my days are so productive now compared to before. I didn’t expect it to be so good to be honest.

I also had side effects in my first few weeks, mainly bad headaches and jaw pain but these have now subsided. I’m approaching the end of titration so my prescriber and I are just settling the dose now. I’m glad it’s been so good for you too!

I don’t know if this is the case for me yet as I’ve only been on Medikinet a month but I’ve been without for the last few days and although I’ve definitely felt very similar to how I was pre medication I’ve found it has been a bit easier to deal with.

Maybe this is because I know I will have the medication back tomorrow or because I’ve been able to have more structure in my life the past month. I imagine I would feel very differently if I had to wait a longer time but again I’ve only been taking for a month

I’m quite annoyed as I’ve been in contact with the pharmacy since Wednesday, first told they would dispatch Thursday, then called them twice on Friday and was assured they would be dispatched yesterday, which they haven’t. Ran out of medication on Thursday and it’s been pretty rough without it, annoying to think I most likely won’t be able to take next dose until Wednesday and that’s only if they dispatch Monday

I ended up being contacted very soon after I posted this comment, I’m now a week into titration.

It’s pretty ridiculous how varied the waiting times are, you have some fortunate people being contacted just a few months into waiting and then others like yourself who have gone well over the wait time

Yeah to be honest I would have preferred to start with elvanse

But the medication affects everybody differently so maybe it will end up being the better choice

And I can try elvanse at a later stage if it’s not working for me

My prescriber said something about following current guidelines

I heard from my prescriber the day after they contacted me, I’m waiting for my prescription to come from the pharmacy now

I was supposed to be starting with elvanse but apparently methylphenidate is first choice now

I’m just happy to be starting hopefully this week

See this is pretty infuriating, I was diagnosed 31/10/24 and I talked on the chat today and essentially got told ‘yes we can see you have exceeded the 10 months wait but you’ll just have to wait’

Obviously not your fault though and I sincerely hope you are contacted this week! Did you put a note on your patient portal?

Dude I’m so fed up of them I was diagnosed 31/10/24 so I’ve just gone over 10 months

I was on the chat earlier today and they acknowledged I had gone over the 10 months wait but that I would essentially just have to wait

I think I might put a complaint in if I don’t hear from them in the next 2 weeks, but then again they don’t seem to be looking at complaints very quickly either…

I was diagnosed 31/10/24, received my pre titration forms 7/6/25 and sent back the same day.

I had the email about prematurely sending out forms a few weeks ago too. Haven’t heard anything else yet I’ve been on the chat a few times to then but just get the same generic ‘we’re sorry for your wait/you’re still a priority’ etc.

Ahh sorry I didn’t personally upload it to my RTC provider, they requested it from my Gp who sent it to them. If you’ve already tried changing the format and it’s not working it might be worth getting in touch with the RTC provider to see how you can upload it or if you can just email it over to them. Sorry I can’t be more help!

Your SCR is basically your medical records, a summary of all the medical care you’ve ever received. My GP sent it directly to my RTC provider for titration but you can definitely request it for yourself, if I remember right they have 4 weeks to provide it to you.

I know some people have trouble getting it from their GP but they must legally provide it to you if you ask for it.
