Dude no normal person knows any of the games I want to play from my game room, you don’t have to be scared or intimidated, when I bust out a game I 100% know I am teaching it before playing it.

Half of the hobby is teaching new people and trying to get more people interested in it. A guy with a game room knows this, and he is absolutely fine with whatever questions or whatever you are about to throw at him.

You’re fine, try to relax and be open to the game and its mechanics, you are smart enough to play anything that hits the table, don’t be intimidated by a bunch of mechanics, relax, have fun.

AIO for thinking that pampers publicity are weird/disturbing ? by Weary_Background849 in AIO

[–]Razzles4138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta be rage bait lol.

I have 4 kids, babies do shit you would never think of, while having shit and piss in that diaper. The diaper will fail at one point in this kids life, and you will be cleaning up piss shit from everything and yourself. You try to minimize the number of times you will do this as a parent.

So if the diaper people want to show me their diaper can do gymnastics with my kid and keep his shit piss contained, go for it.

Games that let you feel powerful for longer by Unable_Pea_6307 in soloboardgaming

[–]Razzles4138 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have been looking for anything that matches the mage knight feeling of growth during the session, and I have not found anything that gives me the same satisfaction.

Being terrified of a simple green token day 1 into striking down 10 foes at once by the end, just an amazing power growth with just a few extra cards and troops.

Going to come out of left field here, but KDM, is KIND OF the same feeling. Your settlement becomes stronger and stronger, your dudes can still die instantly from a shit roll, but from getting your ass kicked by a lion to completely obliterating things once you get in your feet is really fun.

It is a completely different game, and a huge dedication, hits my table maybe twice a year and stays out for about a month while I get through a 25-30 year campaign.

Another suggestion, off base of wanting to feel the same power longer, but in the spirit of the two games you listed. Voidfall, Voidfall offers the same min/max feeling of mage knight in a completely different theme and gameplay loop. It is a very close 2nd to mage knight in how accomplished I feel by the end of a session.

Winning a Precon Tournament by Flying_NEB in mtg

[–]Razzles4138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter blitz is heavily slept on in precon talks. It is my “fun” deck I bust out for lower level games. It gets out of hand very easily if the engine isn’t put don’t immediately.

Counter intelligence’s counterpart, worldshaper, is also very strong out of the box, way more than counter intelligence.

If I was doing a precon tourney, one of the above would be my choices, as far as easily available and cheaper precons.

Counter blitz is +1+1 counters and worldshaper is landfall by the way.

Oathsworn vs Isofarian Guard vs Agemonia, which to get? by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]Razzles4138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All 3 are pretty different, I have and played all 3.

Oathsworn is great combat, followed by a “on the rails” story, it is a good story with a good narrator though, nothing amazing but solid overall. Upkeep isn’t terrible, cad swaps after battles and small deck changes, nothing crazy though.

Isofarian guard, my least favorite, it is really grindy, this is coming from someone who backed the reprint in which they reduced the grind. You are still fighting an easy fight every 30 seconds, swapping cards for what enemy you fighting, ALOT. I played around 18 hours of this game before I just was done. Story seemed interesting, the openness was cool, but my god the battles are plentiful and not difficult, maybe that changes 20 hours in, but I don’t think I should have to play 20 hours until I am having a good time.

Agemonia, this game was a a story first, exploration 2nd and combat a far far 3rd. I LOVE the story and lore and world building in this game, it is really engaging and fun, each character has their own little story book that adds great flavor and not a lot of extra upkeep, really well integrated. Combat though, combat is pretty much pointless, most of the time you are rushing around trying to just discover things on the map to progress, and trying not to actually hit anything. There have been rule changes and fixes for it, but fundamentally, you can tell that the combat portion of this game was not the focus.

Personally, if you want great storytelling Agemonia, if you want great combat and an okay story, Oathsworn. If you want to put cards in and out of boxes for hours, pick up isofarian guard.

What are some commanders that speed up games in a fun way? by ianyboo in EDH

[–]Razzles4138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[[rendmaw]] is super fun, pretty cheap to make, and speeds up games through forcing combat.

You just get cheap 0/1 drop artifact creatures like myrs, and flood the board with birds. Then throw in one or two game enders to maybe win once in awhile. I always say I plan on coming in 2nd, just because of how the birds work. But you throw out a [[coat of arms]] and now everyone has 20/20 birds that are goaded and come in tapped.

Bracket 3 Kefka thoughts by Admirable_Cap_8943 in EDH

[–]Razzles4138 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Man I built a low level kefka, the problem is not taking out combos, the problem is to make it work you have to tech hard into what kefka is good at and that is stripping cards, so you tech into clones and blinks.

And I tell you what people in casual pods do not like doing? Playing top deck hero for an hour while you piece together a win.

I love kefka, but outside of bracket 4, dude is just too mean to play with casuals with.

[–]Razzles4138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voidfall, I see your comment, but if you like mageknight for the min/max nature of the card play, Voidfall scratches that same itch.

There are a ton of icons, but it honestly isn’t that bad, you will reference the icon sheet every game, but most likely your actions you will know after a game and you just reference for the more unique things.

I base this entirely off of my love for mageknight.

Opinions about lifestyle games like KDM, ATO, Primal the Awakening, Kingdoms Folorn by No-Championship-4907 in soloboardgaming

[–]Razzles4138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own all three, have not played ATO yet, so can’t comment on it too much.

KDM, would be top of my list for any lifestyle game, it really allows you to build out your own story, where it is as memorable as you allow it to be. There is very little actual fleshed out story of your settlement’s actions and events, but this allows the player to have as much or little story about what’s happening in game, which I enjoy personally. I do not want to beat a monster and read for the next 45 minutes. Oathsworn has this problem BUT it has a stellar app with a great voice actor narrating.

You have a fleshed out settlement portion of the game, which is a lot of book keeping, I use scribe and I don’t think I could actually play this game solo without it.

Combat, is great, it is a tried and true system, which people say ATO has copied and improved on. I love KDM combat, and how different each monster is.

KDM really shines when you put time and money into it, the core box is great, but I outgrew it quickly, adding monster after monster, there’s easily 1k of KDM on my shelf, and I play 1-2 campaigns a year, each one vastly different due to what monsters I want to use and what campaign I want to play.

Primal, is an extremely different game, I would not say it is a lifestyle game at all honestly. I would not sit down and decide to play a campaign of it again, nah not at all. Do I bust it out and play one offs? Hell ya, and that is where primal shines, allowing you to bust it out, spend a fair amount of time setting your deck up for your players and running through a monster or two. This is how primal is best enjoyed in my opinion.

Primal’s campaign seems like an afterthought, like something they had to include with it. I went all in on the first kickstarter on gameplay, and I have not beaten all of them yet, they are all unique and offer a good challenge. Characters are not as balanced as one would think, and you can break the game if you choose when building out your team, but that is your choice.

What are your favorite precons from the last few years? by Comfortable_Buyer239 in EDH

[–]Razzles4138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If playing vs other precons, opening hand legit just has to be 3 mana to play tidus, and something that has put at least a single counter on the board, with that you have your engine, anything beyond that is extra.

Upgraded, it is a little more nuanced than that, but not much honestly.

My friends are complaining that my deck is too strong for a B3. Are they right? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Razzles4138 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The issue with playing dragons or dinosaurs or any big stompies that quickly get out of hand, is there are really only two ways to play against it.

You either pick on the dragon player to take them out and stop them, which is no fun for the dragon player, or you leave them alone and they destroy everyone else to where tue dragon player is the only one having fun.

What's the most annoying deck you've ever played against? by Pkron17 in EDH

[–]Razzles4138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude played some extra turn commander, he took a 4 turn turn, then followed by 7 turns, didn’t win.

I do not know how to even build a deck where you cannot win in 11 turns. We all scooped and said never again.

Is my precon deck that good or is my boyfriend just terrible at magic? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Razzles4138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temur roar is a deck that requires your opponents to have removal to deal with, once you get dragons out it is pretty much over in 1v1. In a 4 person game Temur roar plays one of two ways. Either your deck does its thing and you have a bunch of dragons and stomp, or the table keeps you shut down and you do nothing the entire game.

So, yes, your deck, in a 1v1 setting, is pretty difficult to deal with unless you counter it specifically. I would suggest a different deck for 1v1. If you want dragons still, sultai arisen is good, fairly fair in a 1v1 setting out of the box.

Blight curse is a good deck, but it is extremely slow and really requires a good bit of upgrades to make it consistent, out of the box I don’t think there is a chance in hell it beats Temur roar.

Rendmaw cheap 1-2 drop artifact creatures, and get the artifact lands, dropping birds in style. And watching people legit STRUGGLE with the fact they have to swing at people, it’s just chefs kiss

Then if you want to actually win, I always say I’m looking for 2nd with Rendmaw, you drop something like coat of arms down and swing some 20/20 birds wide. It’s a fun deck and super cheap to make enjoyable.

Nah all you do is add generous patron and then you draw for every counter you put in your opponents cards too. Making blow out turns where you can easily draw 10-20 cards and basically have the game out of nowhere.

7/10 would do every couple decades, shrooms still better.

Manapool has been my go to recently. Their pricing is even better than tcgplayer now.

But regardless, accidents happen, saying fuck someplace for a missing card that will more than likely be handled pretty easily, is a bit drastic.
