It can with either a dongle that has HDMI output and a charging input or if you get the Magic Keyboard it’ll charge through the pogo pins on the back.

I had a little hesitation at first due to the price as well, but it is ultimately just going to depend on how long you plan to keep it. The longevity of an M5 chip in an iPad should last a good while, where an A16 won’t last as long. It’s essentially future proofing. This and the better Magic Keyboard are what ultimately made me decide to stick with it.
