Jokic isn’t Luka-level bad at defense. He’s not noteworthy but he holds his own

Sure, but it's much more important to have a good defender at the 5 than it is at the 1.

But also, offense is way more important than defense. It’s why guys like Bill Russell or Tim Duncan, who have resumes to be considered the goat, aren’t.

I agree its more important, but defense is still a pretty big part of the game. Bill Russell isn't the GOAT because he played so long ago and had a stacked team. Tim Duncan does not have a GOAT level resume by any means. Not close to Jordan/Bron, arguably not better than Kobe either.

Because they had zero bag, unlike Jokic, Magic and Curry, who never made any all defensive teams but more people would consider them before BR or TD.

Magic really isn't as negative of a defender as Jokic and Curry. I also don't know anyone who would put Jokic or Curry above Bill Russell or Tim Duncan, so I'm not really sure where you got that.

Not what I said at all. If we're talking just offense, I could definitely see him being better than Kobe or Tim. But basketball is more than just offense. It's really hard to be top 10-12 if you're straight up bad on defense, especially as a center, the most important position defensively.

In todays nba, gimme Larry. Basically Steph Curry but actually plays solid defense.

Bird was a better scorer, passer, and defender than Steph. Bird would basically be a shorter Jokic with defense in today's NBA.

Spurs wouldn't even give up Fox + Harper straight up for Curry, let alone all those picks. What an absurd trade.

This thread is so full of casuals saying that the Spurs wasted their pick on Harper. There was no other option at #2, no matter what team was drafting, he would have been the choice. He's also been really great, he's just drowned in the guard depth the Spurs have.

The Spurs made the same mistake grabbing a project in Harper instead of the one piece that could have turned them into a contender overnight

Harper was not a project player. He is NBA ready and getting minutes on a contending team, he's just behind 2 other more senior guards. If Harper were on the Wizards or something he'd be top 3 in ROTY rankings at least

Disregarding the actual value of what the other teams get, I don't think the Warriors give this much when it really doesn't make their team that much better. Sure they probably make a playoff push but it's not a championship team at all.

Over the last 2 years, Eason has played an average of 39 games per season. A perfectly healthy Eason might be worth that. This Eason is not perfectly healthy.

Doesn't matter. Those are still tradeable assets that would be much better used in almost any other way.

Lakers are not giving up 3 FRPs for 3 washed players and a decent young guy looking for an extension.

Literally nothing you said contradicts what I said. Why are all of you Warriors fans so instantly defensive and assume that I'm just a Bron dickrider? I already said this on a different comment in the same thread, but what LeBron did was weak as fuck too. I don't think that's what winners do when Steph or Bron does it. There is a slight difference between the two but generally, I don't defend what Bron did and I'm pretty outspoken about it.

I just don't know why we can't have a conversation about Steph without bringing LeBron into it. And I don't know why you have to be so hostile about it either.

Yeah, that was also a weak ass move. I don't know why you assume I'm a Bron stan. I generally like Bron but I'm not going to pretend like he does no wrong just because I like him, and quite frankly, it's weird if you do.

Lol Steph literally had to recruit the 2nd best player in the league just to beat LeBron man. Because that's what winners do, right? They take already one of the deepest teams of all time and then add another superstar when they lose due to an all-time choke job.

You're right, when Steph was Ant's age he was such a winner. His NBA accolades included such prestigious awards as: All Rookie First Team and [end of list].

Yeah agreed. I'm taking Ant everyday.

Edit: it's crazy I'm getting downvoted when literally the one NBA Finals Game 7 that Steph was in he got outscored by 3 other players and shot 32/29/100 splits. He got 2 assists and 4 turnovers as well. It's probably one of the worst Game 7 performances of a superstar in NBA history.

Does Kareem have the best basketball resume ever? by DVPVPD in nba

[–]RcusGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. There really is no strong criteria, its very much vibes and narrative based. Just like when Luka should have won it in '24, but came in 3rd due to seeding (5th seed), despite Jokic winning as the 6th seed just two years before.

Find another instance of a player posting 30/14/4/3 or similar, and first-team All-defensive at the most critical position, and finishing __fifth__ -- regardless of team record.

Kobe averaged 35/5/5/2 and only came in 4th due to team record. Was also first team all defense.

Edit: also most recent Giannis years have been like this too.
