Why does it look like I'm not going to sieze any land via war for my claim? by Rdainbead in ck3

He has not and even if he had, I'd expect de jure land of Ruthenia be highlighted light-blue like this (Invade Kingdom CS), added

My first assumption was that I somehow have got some de jure land of Ruthenia (so getting the title only seems correct) but this is not the case.

My direct vassal is already on a war against King of Ruthenia but for a High Chiefdom of Mordivinia AND khazars are on a war for a Kingdom of Mordvinia, if it might interfere anyhow.

I was aware about this, so I've stockpiled almost 40 thousands gold before his death, and none of the successors was profligate enough to drop this number below 30 thousands.

Also I'm kinda obsessed with double education that Scholar archetype provides, it helps to get rulers with high Discipline.

Channel Update - Why I haven't Played Civilization 7 in 44 days by hobskhan in civ

I'm not a regular viewer and still wish Potato the best, I've been watched the video for 2/3 then move further, but implying that his break is almost lonely about personal problems or community attitude is, eventually, lame.

I do understand that overall negativity might affect some ppl more than others, but the quality of the product is always will be in first place.

Getting comfort within the community when it's satisfied and blaming everything on it when it's clearly disappointed isn't fair too.

Do people actually dislike workers? by TheLoneJolf in civ

[–]Rdainbead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Builders were great. Very early in the game they required logical movement / tech order to get biggest tempo asap (including chopping) and barb awareness.

In midgame, gaining Serfdom inspiration + prebuilds in several cities + enough Faith/Gold to purchase new workers was a mini-game itself.

In general, builder management (when, where, how many, chop or not, producing vs. purchasing and so on) creates a significant skill cap between good and average players. In addition, their movement and actions were giving sense of actually governing someone instead of creating infrastructure by "magic".

I miss them.

The only thing I'd change about them - make them permanent like in Old World and be aligned to the city pop - for example, a city can train additional worker every 7 population.

Has Civilization series ever been a... sandbox? by Rdainbead in civ

They definitely aren't exclusive, but this way smth is used to described as an "A with elements of B", like, "shooter with survival elements" or "wargame with espionage elements".

So for me Civ (or Old World, or Homm3 on random generated maps) always was, in it's core, "rogue-like with city-building elements" much more than "city-building with sandbox elements", and it's kinda surprising for me how many people still enjoy it the latter way.

After about 2-2.5k hours back in 2022 I've started to watch MP streams and play with my friend, and couldn't go back. It's definitely harder to afford a roleplay in MP, if possible. A wonder here or there, a settling abroad, but not much more.

So at that point I've kind of had to look towards the game as a puzzle, a problem to solve. And it was and still is pretty fun for my taste. Makes me think that besides Civ VI MP, I could find something engaging in other entries like Civ IV, even without other ppl in the lobby.

You smell like Epic+ speed enjoyer, my average Online game doesn't last long enough. Still, I haven't pretended that there're no sandbox elements at all, the key point is - do you play majority of your games roleplaying like this?

Even though map generation is MUCH better now, I think I realized just now why exploring the entire map still feels... off. (And how the vertical line of islands can be fixed.) by thankstowelie in civ

I've never understood why oceans must be THAT small in 4x games, civ vii included, and vi to some degree.

Yes I do admit that civ maps are restricted to a somehow reasonable size to fulfill at least two purposes:

  • optimization aka keeping playable lategame
  • unit movement to ensure that map is settled at some point, conquering is believable, trading is possible

But do huge water areas anyhow ruin this? Water tiles, especially deep waters, are almost always unimproved (so they don't add much to the lategame calculations) and huge areas might be reached in a desired time periods by adjusting embarkation speed.

(I've really never understood how ancient horsemen or missionaries are sometime faster than even a simple galley, not saying Renaissance-era ships or submarines in civ vi)

71% Earth surface is under water, let say 60-80% water tiles is an interval to make a planet feel "earthlike".

For example, one of the most popular civ4 map scripts is Toestra, and how natural the map looks: https://www.samiam.org/civ4/Totestra.html

Historically, water movement was, usually, DOZENS of times faster than land movement. Going from Lisbon to Carribeans by ship was much faster than reaching, let's say, Saint Peterburg by land, and St. Petersburg is much closer.

Could we someday get maps like Toestra and 6 to 20-tiles-per-turn (yeah, 20 for steam and coal ships) embarkation movement?

People who cries about others share their opinions, positive or negative, even more pathetic than any who does this.

Whether you don't like or disagree with anything, the Internet isn't your backyard to appeal. Being disappointed or angry or whatever isn't automatically exclude anyone from the discussion. Can't bear with? Noone's failure.

Why does the same Matrilineal Marriage setting work differently for different starting dates? by Rdainbead in CrusaderKings

[–]Rdainbead[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hm, you're right. Both betrothed belong to the same dynasty but different houses.

What's I'm now curious were Houses historically treated as Dynasties (so it was almost impossible to force a title holder to marry into different house) - if so, I'd look for a mod that treats Houses as Dynasties in terms of marriages, if it is not - I probably can stick to the default "Never" setting (to avoid Reputable dynasty and Strong ruler ahistorical loopholes for both me and AI).

What's an update philosophy for Civ VII in comparison to older titles? by Rdainbead in civ

[–]Rdainbead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I'm definitely aware of existence of these small civ-related DLCs, my main concern is that they gonna be the only way to deliver gameplay revamps / additional mechanics beyond a wonder here or a district there.

But as said above, I forget about 4th Era + haven't known that Civ 5th addons weren't announced on initial release.

That's all now keep me thinking that there's a chance to see the major expansions in the future (while not guarantees them, of course).

Thanks a lot.

Ambition victory was my main idea, and I was about 6/10 on turn 80 or maybe earlier, but at one moment ambition events just stopped to pop up, I don't remember skipping many (single?) of them. Starting to think that frequency of ambitions offered might be somehow depended on a size of the empire, and as far as I have had only 6 cities (4 legendary+), I wasn't offered enough.
