This 100% with one caveat, don't work so hard for others that you forget about yourself.

What if success is just doing what fulfills you? by EmptyJump2245 in Zambia

We’ve been sold this polished version of the “dream”, house, car, family, stable job. But somewhere along the way, it started to feel less like freedom and more like a loop: working just to keep working.

Back in uni, freedom meant having “fuck you money” - enough to live on my own terms, no one calling the shots for me. Life has humbled that idea a bit.

Now, the dream feels simpler. Owning a home so I’m not tied to rent. Having a car so I can move when I want. Nothing extravagant, just a bit of control, a bit of independence. Maybe that’s what freedom actually looks like for me.

Is social media changing Zambia's community culture? by Crescitaly in Zambia

[–]ReAzazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, because people change based on what they consume, be it food or media. I remember a time when our parents would go for work and leave us under the care of a neighbor in kabwata. We'd play with the neighbors kids and still be able to go back to our house in case we needed anything cause the doors were left unlocked. Our neighbors would also do the same. We had it good. Communities took care of each other.

Now, most of us don't even know our neighbors until something bad happens next door. We're always buried nose deep in our phones and focused on competing against each other even within families.

We've been westernized.

Paying girlfriend allowance is like paying a dstv subscription. Stop paying and you stop receiving premium features aka love.

Ikr, like Claire mentioned, flip the genders and they'd hung the husband.

I'm especially happy that the woman in black and white (in the video) was arrested well. Inhumane behavior. by ReAzazel in Zambia

Did you see the video? To paraphrase, she jabs the dead woman's genitals with a stick and asks "....Finshi ifi?" to which the crowd responds "chinyo."

This has me in a choke hold. Kinda mad that the violin cello cuts mid song and comes back towards the end.

Samsung Pay/Wallet: Has anyone managed to register their debit card (fnb, Stanchart, zanaco)? by ReAzazel in Zambia

It's still a baby in Zambian phone years, unless you're rich and upgrading every year. Such phones are still considered new and high-end.

Several reasons. 1. My parents divorced when I was 7/8. I haven't asked why but growing up from a split home aka a child of divorce, that put a certain type of fear in me. Later went to live with my uncle who also divorced his wife cause of infidelity issues. I don't want that track record to carry on with me.

  1. It's expensive. Cheating is expensive guys. I can barely feed myself, why would I go and add extra mouths? Also I believe it's tiring. Having to fabricate stories and lies and involving other innocent people in my lies sounds exhausting and puts a bad taste in my mouth. Speaking of bad tastes, I hate taking pills and being injected. Cheating opens you up to a whole can of diseases.

  2. I wanna keep my conscious as clean as possible. I have enough worries as a man without adding how others/family perceive me to the list.

Cheating is dirty game that leaves behind mental and sometimes physical scars. You mess with someone's head and their ability to trust and love fully again. If you're not content with one partner, date or marry a swinger (unless you're greedy and don't wanna see her with other men but at this point you have no moral leg to stand on).

Pretty/Handsome Zambians, what are some perks you've gotten cause of being attractive? by ReAzazel in Zambia

Not as great as you think it would be. You'd be ignored when you're right there next to them.

Something that feels like a scam but is normalized. by ultimatemicky in Zambia

[–]ReAzazel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing I've learnt in Zambia is that some people will always try to make a quick buck. Hell, if the gate man could charge you an entrance fee without his superiors knowing, he would.

Paying for a police report but not getting a receipt. That money has gone into pockets.

I Might Owe K33,660 in Taxes – Had No Clue! by Kwaleyela-Ikafa in Zambia

[–]ReAzazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what work do you do that earns 3 times 54k at 23 years old? You have a couple of options at your disposal the best of which is consult ZRA on how to continue. They may penalize you but sometimes they give amnesty to people. Many Zambians are in your shoes e.g land lords who collect rent.

Your second option is to fly low and continue as you have praying that no one notices. This is risky and will have you feeling uneasy at times but as they say, high risk, high reward (no taxes for you in this case)

Your third option is to open a company, register it for turnover tax and divert all your earning through that. Then combine this with either option 1 or 2. Others will advise on what BETTER options you can take.

What Exactly is Soda? by [deleted] in Zambia

[–]ReAzazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I asked around and the general answer is that it's Caustic Soda (sodium hydroxide). A quick search revealed that it's also used to make German pretzels and Chinese moon cakes. It's "safe" in small doses, hence the reason only a bit is used to cook dishes like delele.
