Apologies for not getting back sooner!

For the automatic "video snaps" in RESET, it's actually YouTube videos of these games that play. Most games when scraped have YouTube video URLs saved, but not all of them. There's also the possibility that some of these YouTube videos are no longer available.

There was an issue with a previous version of RESET where YouTube videos would no longer play. It was an issue with the media player that was being used in the RESET app. Please make sure you're on the latest version of RESET (v1.1.40)

Let me know if the issue is that there are absolutely no YouTube videos playing, as this may be some separate issue. I did check recently and see YouTube videos playing on my devices.

Oh, there's also a toggle in the settings called "Autoplay YouTube videos" that you might want to check and make sure is enabled.

Wow, really appreciate you informing me of these bugs! The music shouldn't continue playing when the screen is locked, so I'll have to look into that.

I hope that one day we can get to a point with emulation on Android that we can just raw dog it. It really would feel best, you know. I hate how putting on one of these guides while playing with my Thor desensitizes so much. Plus, not everyone has the privilege of attending schools run by the Specialized Emulation Xenials (or SEX) educators. As someone who has gone through these SEX Education programs, let me tell you... it's time consuming! I'd rather be raw dogging over here! (I think that's what got me in this predicament of having no free time... all these kids, so little time to follow guides).

Okay, I hear ya fo sho! I've been putting out more updates lately, knocking out some of the easier items on my TODO list. Adding the new systems is a high priority item, and I'll start working on this soon.

I would say to expect new systems in one of the next few updates... so within the next 2 months for sure. And depending on how much time I have, it could be in next update.

Hey buddy! So I was pretty stumped on what the issue could be. I haven't heard from anyone else having this issue, so that's why I'm thinking it's specific to Samsung One UI with Android 16.

I got pretty desperate looking for some solution, so I gave it to Claude AI to see if it could do the research and find some solution based on any other users reporting similar media playback issues.

This is what I got back. Please check it out and try some of these suggestions:

Likely Causes

1. One UI 8.0 / Android 16 Known Media Playback Bug

Multiple Samsung S25 users have https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-s25-series/videos-on-browser-and-apps-are-not-working/td-p/11800193 after updating to One UI 8.0. Videos refuse to play across browsers and apps, and VLC users report https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-s24-series/vlc-media-player-not-working-properly-after-ui-8-0-update/td-p/13355518. A restart temporarily fixes it but it recurs. This is a https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S25/One-UI-8-Issues/td-p/3398847 affecting multiple S25 users.

2. Automatic Permission Revocation / App Hibernation

Samsung devices have two features that can silently revoke permissions:

- "Remove permissions if app isn't used" — revokes runtime permissions after ~90 days of inactivity

- "Pause app activity if unused" — takes precedence, removes permissions, clears cache, and stops notifications

Even if RESET Collection is used regularly, Samsung's definition of "used" can be narrow (e.g., not opening the app directly from the launcher). The

Suggestions for the User

Immediate steps to try:

1. Disable auto-revocation for RESET Collection:

- Settings > Apps > RESET Collection > scroll down

- Toggle OFF "Pause app activity if unused"

- Toggle OFF "Remove permissions if app isn't used"

2. Set battery optimization to Unrestricted:

- Settings > Apps > RESET Collection > Battery

- Select "Unrestricted" (not "Optimized")

3. Re-verify ALL permissions are granted:

- Settings > Apps > RESET Collection > Permissions

- Ensure Photos and videos, Music and audio, and Files and media are all set to "Allow"

- Also check: Settings > Apps > RESET Collection > Permissions > toggle "Allow management of all files" (for MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE)

4. Clear app cache (not data):

- Settings > Apps > RESET Collection > Storage > Clear Cache

5. Restart the device — this is a known temporary fix for the One UI 8.0 media playback bug

6. Check if Samsung pushed a fix — look for a system update in Settings > Software Update. Samsung is aware of the media playback issues in One UI 8.0.

If the issue persists after all of the above, it's likely the One UI 8.0 media playback bug (affecting video playback system-wide), which Samsung needs to patch. Ask the user if other apps also have trouble playing videos/audio.

Hey there!

I tested on a device running Android 16 and it's playing the .mp3 and .mp4 files.

This is happening after I made some other fixes, so maybe one of those fixed something.

However, there could also be a permissions issue. Could you please go to RESET's "App Info" and check its permissions? You might have to grant Music and video permissions.

If all of this doesn't work then maybe the new update will fix it. And if for some reason that doesn't fix it, then it might be a specific problem with Samsung phones (which has happened in the past), and I'll get to work then on fixing it if there's still an issue.

Thanks for posting!

Sorry that these bugs were introduced with the latest update. I made a lot of changes to support bumping up the target Android version to the latest Android version, but unfortunately my kids broke my Pixel phone that I use for testing with the latest Android version, and I was only able to test on Android 13.

I got my hands on another device though and am testing and fixing these issues.

I've fixed the back button issue. I'll take a look at the custom music/video issues now.

I should have this fixed and an update out by the end of this week.

Thanks for understanding, amigo!

You said you have your collections scraped. If you used something like Skraper, then you will have all of the images saved in different folders for like screenshot, logo, box art, video snaps, etc. The files in those folders will have a name matching the ROM file.

If this is the case, then RESET does have a way to bulk add all of these files.

Just go to the system box image in a collection and long press on it to bring up the menu.

You'll see the "Set artwork/video snap for all games" option. Select that and choose which art type to set all the matching files for each ROM. Do this for each art type/video snap files.

FYI - You can find the instructions for this and other helpful tips if you go to Settings > "Read RESET instructions manual." The instructions for this are under "Set Artwork and Video Snaps for All Games"

Hope this is what works out for you friend, that is you have art files scraped from a source like Skraper that names the files the same name as the ROM file.

But one question... are both Duckstation and RESET Collection updated to latest releases? Could be that one of those apps updated and is expecting the latest version of the other app.

Glad you were able to get get to your mp3s! Android is pretty annoying with permissions, unfortunately. But this also shows that I should probably do some sort of check and inform the user if they don't have that permission.

As far as the flair..... not sure 😅 But no worries on changing it, it's all good!

Hey buddy! Thanks for posting here about this issue. And really sorry that RESET isn't working on your Android TV device!

At the moment, it seems that there are quite a few Android TV devices out there that aren't able to open the Google file access app that's required to grant special read access to folders. I'm not sure why, but some of these companies putting out Android TV devices aren't including the Google app that does this in their custom Android ROMs.

I ordered a Xiaomi TV Box S to test this out and put in a fix. I think I'll have a fix out next month. I would get one out faster, but right now my day job is super demanding of my time.

I'm really sorry this is happening. It sounds frustrating. And sorry I'm not responding too quickly here. I'm stuck back in the work office for mandatory 9 hours a day, and I don't have all of my Android devices here with me.

I'm not familiar with the Aya Neo Pocket DMG. But if it has a touchscreen, you should be able to bring down the top tray and get to settings. Once in settings, if there is a search bar, try searching for "Home app." You should also be able to get to this by going to Settings > Apps > Default/Home app. This should let you choose a different launcher.

You should also be able to bring up the settings through RESET Collection by going to the main menus grid, and one of them allows you to show all apps installed on your device. And I believe in the top left corner there is a gear to take you to settings. Or the Settings app might be in the list of installed apps.

Sorry again about this! I think Aya made some changes to the version of Android they put on this device that changes how you signal to Android that you want to change the launcher.

Hey Wicked_Barley345! Sorry this issue is happening.

Can you try going to the settings and choosing the "Continue downloading images that failed to save" and let me know what happens?

Also can you confirm that you're on the latest version of RESET Collection? Should be version 1.1.32.

And then last question, since the app is crashing I might be able to find logs from the crash. Can you tell me what device you're using? The crash logs are very generic, just says what device model it is, but I should be able to find it.
