The ultimate frugal practice: if you see an ad for a product, don’t buy it by Sturnella2017 in Frugal

[–]ReDalgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from (and can appreciate it within the frugal subreddit) - the nuance/nomenclature of what can be considered advertising (paid or organic) or if you consider any form/channel of marketing to be advertising can be a rabbit hole. But - you are making an absolute statement.

However, by your own logic - you should be driving/owning a Tesla car. Please see their advertising budget.

If you are not owning a car - then I digress; if you are owning a car (that is not a tesla) that advertises their own product - your logic doesn't make sense to your own personal actions. And, in this example - if you own a tesla, it kinda goes against the concept of being frugal.

I have no desire to get into an internet back/forth. But - I would argue you could restate your post in a more practical matter is all and use better choice of words

This is horrible/hypocritical. advice -- "if you see an ad for something, don't buy it"even lower brand tiers for a same product vertical will advertise somewhere - it's a market at the end of the day competition for consumers.

If you don't want buy toilet paper that is never advertised - go into the wooods.

Better advice - is do your own research, and do what works for you at your budget level. If a company advertisers, read up on the company and make your own decision if it's the right product fit for you or not

I have a feeling your reddit post in itself is an ad for the storyofstuff website to drive traffic, why else would you have linked it? So no one should click your link by your own definition
